In general people seemed to like SOnic Colors better than this game so I opened up a copy of it I got my nephew for this coming Christmas to check it out .... sorry but the controls in 2D platforming segments are not solid enough for me .... Well Sonic, when it comes to controls and moves, looks like Mario is still the king of platformers. I wanted to love Lost World but I dont even like Colors , which for most is a better game , so I'm skipping Lost World and will wait TO GET LOST IN MARIO 3D WORLD.

I had this pre ordered here in USA and just cancelled it. I want to wait a bit and see if there is a demo for it. I enjoyed the original Sonic game for the genesis and felt that with Sonic 2, the game started going down hill. I felt it was going down hill because the platforming provided in 1 was getting replaced by .... uncontrollable speed and loop da loops coupled with cheap deaths. You would start going fast to go through loops and then hit an enemy that you could not even see was there until after you hit it and were dead.
Over the years it seems this scenerio just got worse and worse .... the stopping and calculating a jump was gone, the seeing an enemy ahead of time and planning your attack was gone, having to plan your jump to bop an enemy was gone .... all replaced with speed, jump lock on [auto] kills, and twitch gameplay.
Now here is the funny part, this game may be making its way back to its roots .... true platforming ... and those who never played Sonic 1 or just got used to speed, auto kill, and twitch gameplay don't like it .... may mean to me, this is the best Sonic game since Sonic 1 ~ but I'll need a demo or instore gameplay session before I sink my cash into it.
I read professional reviews because I don't have enough money to buy a bunch of games hoping that they're good
In previous Sonic games did collecting 100 rings give you a 1-up?
I understand where you are coming from the problem is games are not reviewed with the same quality they once were .... back in the day, before the internet, you would have to wait for NEXT MONTHS MAGAZINE for a review ... and you would get an indepth review on the graphics, gameplay, control, sound, and replayability. Now everyone rushes to get their review out the day the game is released or before it is and they do not give you as indepth a review as you once got.
I have bought games that scored 10s and didnt like them and ones that scored 6 and loved them .... but these days its more of a toss up than it used to be ... demos are really the best way to know if you really like a game or not and videos of actual gameplay from non reviewers is the next best way to know if you might like a game or not.

I really hope things turn around for the system ... At his point, I like my Wii U so much, I have realized it will be years until I get a PS4. The games for the Wii U are great ... solid gameplay and fun fun fun ... I have a PS3 with over 130 games on it and none of them even come close to Super Mario U or Pikmin 3 ... I even love RE Revelations and the game play on Zen Pinball 2 is the best on the Wii U and have it for PS3, Vita, and a Nexus 10 Tablet.
Interestingly, the Wii U inspired me to check out games that came out on e Wii that I never played when my Wii Hooked up. I checked out review sites and bought Pikmin 1 & 2 (Wii Controls), Paper Mario, Conduit 1 & 2, Mario All Stars, Mad World, & Zack & Wiki ... all great games ... Then add in some Virtual Console games ... Zelda A Link To The Past, Super Mario 1, Lost Levels, & 3, Neutopia 2, Gradius Rebirth, The World Of Goo, Super Mario World ... AND YOU HAVE A TON OF GAMING !!!
Not to mention Mario World 3D just looks downright AWESOME to me ... The Zedla Wii U when it comes Im sure will be great.
I think that when you look at the HISTORY OF TOP NOTCH games on Nintendo Consoles Over The Years, its staggering and the beauty is the Wii U is backwards compatible to the NES through the Wii and Wii Shop ...
I may have more games for the PS3, but I have more quality games with great game play on the Nintendo Platform that I enjoy much more than most PS3 games.
Nintendo needs to bite the bullet already and come out with some kick ass New IP First Person Shooters ... THIS IS WAY OVERDUE, if they did that, I would never even need a PS4.

I'm glad you mention that ... I can honestly say, I never feel comfortable with 4 fingers on 4 shoulder buttons at the same time on any controller. I believe the reason for this is that the lower triggers feel more natural than the upper triggers on all the controllers out there. So according to my theory, there should be nothing where the upper triggers are, the lower triggers should be the upper triggers and then below them should be the lower triggers.
The design of the Pad is so traditional, that it inherits the flaws of traditional controllers as well !!
Now that we are on the topic of the triggers, one design flaw I have noticed with the Pad is the the lower triggers are too easily triggered if the pad is resting on your leg or placed down for sec ... the lip just below them should have been extended beyond the bottom of the lip of the trigger to prevent this.

People talk about how slow the Wii U is downloading games .... I have a PS3 and it is slow too ... to be honest, unless it is a small game, I usually start the download just before bed and turn the system off ... On those occasions I want to wait for the download, I always thought, but could never confirm, that if a game is downloading and you are doing other things on the system at the same time, the game will take longer to download. So according to this philosophy, keep the system on and do nothing else with it while it the game is downloading ... all conjecture on my behalf.

I really do not know about the rest of you, but I am very happy with the Wii U Game Pad.
One of the first things I felt when first had it in my hands was "a return to tradition, but done right"
The Pad just feels great in my hands ... it has all the buttons in all the right places ... it feels traditional to me, unlike how I felt when I first picked up a Wiimote and Nunchuck. It felt like a return to common sense to me ... a staple ... but with a twist ... it has added functions as well ...
So when people talk about how far out an idea it was, that just seems crazy to me. It functions as a standard controller to me ... at its very basic level, it is a traditional style controller ... it has two analog sticks positioned in the best position in my opinion .... hated the idea of the placement of the 360 sticks ... it has an excellent, not wishy washy D Pad ... 4 action buttons, 4 shoulder buttons, and start, select, and home buttons.
This configuration (with the exception of the lack of analog shoulder buttons - like the GC) can be used to play any game that came out since the days of the NES ... in its simplicity, it is versatile. When you picked up a Wii, you got a Wiimote but if you wanted to play a lot of virtual console games, you needed a classic controller. Now, the Wii U Game Pad is a classic controller ... you just have to wait until they release the old virtual console games for the Wii U ... but in essence, it serves that purpose.
But the pad adds enough new twists to make it modern as well ...... gyroscope, speakers, headphone jack, microphone, Near Contact Reader, a camera, and of course, the THE TOUCH SCREEN and its Streaming Ability, Asymmetrical Gameplay, Off TV Gameplay for Wii & Wii U Games.
Because there are 100 Million Wii Systems already in homes, it makes sense not to pack a Wiimote in with the system .... people already have one!
It is backwards compatible right now ... the PS4 and XBOX 1 are not at this point.
To me, it seems like the most logical approach Nintendo could have made ... It is innovative, yet more firmly rooted in tradition than the Wii was in my opinion.

If the Wii U fails, its because the gaming community has lost their marbles ... the Wii U is excellent, there is no doubt about that in my mind, the problem is people are being brainwashed not to like it ... people dont like it who have never tried it... I hate to say this but its like TV ... some excellent shows dont make it because the viewing audience has brainwashed itself into thinking idiotic reality shows are the best thing since sliced bread ... its a manality im talking about.

I picked mine up in June 2013 ... I have really been loving it ever since ... I was not happy with N64 or Game Cube ... I was a little happier with the Wii than those but am the most happy with the Wii U. In my opinion, the Wii U is the best console Nintendo has ever made.

Using the Wii U internet Browser, I ordered Mario Galaxy 2 in Used Very Good Condition about a week or so ago. Yesterday my package arrived. With anticipation, I opened it and when I opened the game case, THERE WAS NO GAME DISC !!!
I paid $24 for the used game with shipping. I got involved in a heated debate with the seller, filed a claim, and left awful feedback.
The seller insisted that in their description they clearly stated the listing was for a game case only and not the game, I insisted that description was no where in the item description.
It was not until I went on Amazon with my PC and not my Wii U that I realized The Wii U Internet Browser does not display a sellers text under the column CONDITION ... it only shows you the condition ..... Good, Very Good, Like New, etc but not the sellers description of what you are buying.
I am just putting this out there so no one makes the same mistake on Amazon that I did ... I have been using the Wii U Internet Browser a lot ... I will never use it to buy a used item on Amazon ever again ......

I dunno. I think the best cartoony looking game ever was Jet Grind/Set Radio. But as far as milking it for decades, yeah the crown goes to Nintendo. And the latest Mario looks really good. I am just sick to death of Mario.
I'm curious, if you are sick of Mario, which are the games that really draw you in and made you pick up the Wii U?

It has always been the 'cartoony' art style that I have liked in video games the most. Its the games in this style that transform me to another world, that bring me to a fantacy frame of mind, that yank me out of reality and draw me into their world. And in my opinion, Nintendo is the best at it. Not only do they provide plenty of visual candy and laughs along they way, they provide the best game play as well.
People are trashing Nintendo for not raising the bar with this system and its graphical capabilities, however, thier games look great and play great.
The problem that I have always had with games that look REAL as opposed to CARTOONY, is that the first thing that comes to mind when I play them is ... how fake they look .... how far they fall short of REALLY LOOKING REAL. I can say this about every Next Generation Game I have seen on any console. This problem dates back to Resident Evil 1 on the PS1 ... WOW I SAID, GAMES ARE BEGINING TO LOOK REAL ... Today, games are still BEGINING TO LOOK REAL ...
For me, it is always the games that do not try to LOOK REAL that FEEL MORE REAL to me because in my mind, I'm not pointing out how much they fell short of actually looking real. In many cases, it is in these cartoony, kidsy games that things look better than real, they are eye popping, they give you a feeling inside and you say ... wow, that looks awesome! I felt that way when the camera for the very first time in the game panned over the dark green trees on the right mid section in SMBU .... I loved those leaves in those trees ....

The E3 trailer of SMW3D is what made me pick up a Wii U back in June ... this trailer confirms I made the right decision ... it looks fantabulous !!!
I have been playing SMBU since June and still have a ways to go in the game ... I refuse to branch out too far in the game without getting all three stars in each level. For the past two weeks I keep coming back to the game but can't nail nail Wendy in the snow area, I get to her with all 3 stars then she takes me down!
I decided I was really going to take my time with the game and not rush through it, I'll do the same with 3D World too.
While SMBU looks stunning to me, this looks even better because it looks like it was developed from the get go with the Wii U engine and not the Wii engine as SMBU was in its infancy.
The beauty is, this game looks like it has plenty of variety in it, not just in game play but also in the art style as well ... I liked to see the level with the shadows .... neat.
Can't wait and can't wait for Betweens Worlds on the 3DS !!!

You could go blind playing with your Wiimote in the bathroom, it is especially not recommended for children 6 and under. Adults experiencing dizziness should stop playing immediately and take a 15 minute rest.

Well I must say I am very happy with this update !!! I love the whole idea of being able to play Wii Games on the Game Pad ... I checked out Zelda, A link to the past and Mario 3, and Galaxy ... they all look great.
With the added keyboard support, my Logitech keyboard now works and it did not work before. Because I use the Wii U's internet browser a lot, this is a big plus, I am typing this post with the USB keyboard right now ... it is not practical to use it for Miiverse, but for making posts on the internet, its great. Being able to read PDF files is great too! And who didn't want internet password saves? I know I did!
I don't feel like this update speeded up the Wii U UI, but I never felt like things took too long anyway.
I think the use of a headset during Wii U chat is a good idea, after december, I should be using Wii U Chat more because my nephew is getting a Wii U from me for Christmas.
I guess sound output is very important to some but it was never really an issue with be.
Those who wanted unified accounts, achievments and such may not be very happy but I for one love this update!
