#295050 I need help with my gamepad.

Posted by alex15810 on 05 August 2014 - 10:19 AM in Wii U Hardware

I don't think these are problems with the actual controller.

As far as your second problem - In black ops 2 there are a few bugs. One of them I've noticed is if you move your analog stick while the game map is loading you'll turn in circles and won't be able to stop. if you are on a menu you'll scroll through the menu uncontrollably. You'll have to switch to a different controller then switch back to fix it. I've experienced this numerous times and it seems to be tied to moving the analog stick while the game is loading. This could be what's happening to you. Next time it happens try switching to a different controller then back to the gamepad and see if it fixes it.

Also, your first problem sounds like game lag that's related to your TV. Play windwaker for a minute on your gamepad screen only - off of your TV, see if it lags. If it doesn't, then it's for sure a problem with your TV. Have you turned your TV to "game mode"? My TV will lag as you described if I'm not in game mode. Check your TV's settings. Also, what TV are you using? if you are using an older TV or a cheap TV it might not have the specs to keep up with the console.

If these don't work you could try resyncing your gamepad with the console.

#295044 How much does it take replace a Gamepad?

Welcome to July 22nd

Awesome! I missed that. Way to go Nintendo.

Still, I'm guessing settings is still gamepad only?

#295043 Hyrule Warriors will not support online co-op

Well that's another reason not to buy the game. Nintendo continues to refuse to get with the times.

Send to Nintendo asap but if you have a Pro controller use that in the mean time.

The real pain is you can't acess the settings or the store without the gamepad. They need to modify this in a patch for this reason - if your gamepad breaks the system is largely unplayable. There is no reason why the other controllers shouldn't work in the settings menu and eshop.

#294730 super smash online

Posted by alex15810 on 01 August 2014 - 07:53 AM in Wii U Games and Software

The termination of DS and Wii Online is because the servers that Nintendo used were external. Gamespy, the company that provided the servers/service got closed down, resulting in Nintendo having to terminate DS and Wii online capability's.

Even if that's true, Nintendo could have just moved the game to a different server if they wanted. If the players themselves can create their own servers for it there's no reason Nintendo couldn't have supported it. I think bottom line the decision was made to force players to move to the new console. The servers did get shut down about a week before mario kart 8 was released.

Really didn't like that move by Nintendo. Seemed premature to me. It can't be that expensive to run servers for a few popular Wii games. I believe even the last few PS2 online games just recently got shut down and sony and microsoft will for sure be supporting online for PS3 and Xbox 360 for years to come.

#294728 Engadget: 'Mario Kart 8' couldn't save Nintendo from a $97 m...

Posted by alex15810 on 01 August 2014 - 07:44 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I don't see any information in the article as to what period that is for. I'm guessing it's 7/1/13 - 6/30/14? If so, Mario Kart only came out in May so the vast majority of those numbers are sales before Mario Kart 8.

Right now the Wii U is narrowly outselling the Xbox One. 59.1k worldwide sales the past month over Xbone's 57.7k. And we're over 2 months now after MK8 release so it looks like Wii U is getting some sort of permanent bump from MK8.  No, of course the Wii U isn't going to be a huge hit or even come remotely close to PS4 numbers but I think when it's all said and done it will have OK lifetime sales.

6 months ago Wii U was selling only 39k monthly. 24k monthly prior to MK8.

Atleast we're not in last place. I hope Wii U can hold it's edge over Xbone.

I still get frustrated with all the negative press Wii U gets yet it's outselling Xbone and you never seem DOOOM articles about Xbone.

#294628 Super Mario 3d World

Posted by alex15810 on 31 July 2014 - 11:36 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I'd buy a physical disc online. You can get it new for $48. And when you're done playing it you can probably resell it on Ebay for around $40.

Eshop I'm guessing is still at $60 but don't quote me on that.

Also I've always thought 3D World looked awesome. Haven't gotten around to playing it but this thread got me thinking about buying it again.

#294626 Hyrule Warriors

Posted by alex15810 on 31 July 2014 - 11:23 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I'm still confused as to why you seem to be getting so angry/defensive in your posts. You also keep making up things I don't believe/never said such as I claim to more than anyone else, I claimed this is a cash grab, I claim to know all about the game, I said I know better than to be excited for this, I'm looking to maintain a certain narrative, ect. Go back and re-read, I never said any of that. You're making things up.

Also not sure what you mean by "And then you come in straight from last year"...this thread has been active lately and I post fairly frequently on these boards. Both praising Nintendo titles and sometimes (like this one) not praising it.

This thread is about a poll asking if we are excited for Hyrule, all I'm doing is chiming in with my opinion. No I've not spent hours and hours researching the game but I've watched Nintendo's E3 demo and have read some posts/upcoming game articles about it. I don't claim to know all. If I'm mistaken or missing something that's totally fine, please point it out I want to learn more about the title.

I've played several of them and Dynasty Warriors 3 in particular I've spent hundreds of hours playing. But yes, many of the features you mentioned I've seen before.

In Warriors 3, to get the most powerful weapons for the characters you had to search, explore and find supply teams and loot the weapons. There have been large selections of weapons for all characters in past games. While I haven't played the game I know Orochi hyper has a weapon crafting system as well as purchasable weapons.

We've had mini-bosses before with their own movesets. We've had large creatures before. The large elephants in Warriors 3 come to mind but Hyrule's look much improved so props to Hyrule for that.

Some of the other features you mentioned like crystal switches, puzzles ect. we haven't exactly seen that before so that looks neat and different. We did have gates to close and gate captains to kill in Warriors 3. We also had to search out certain targets to trigger on battle field events but nothing like you've mentioned so looking forward to hearing more about those.

Not really sure how to approach this, as your quantifiers for quality seem exceptionally pedantic and contrary to game quality in favor of cosmetic fluff.

The game is already shaping up to be considerably different from other warriors games, from the fundamental combat being handled and reworked by Ninja gaidens team ninja instead of the usual musou team, and the world design style being redesigned to take into account adventure game exploration and discovery elements.

But typically people content to listening to hearsay dont really care whats actually happening and just want to reinforce their preconceived bias, otherwise they would have looked into it themselves with earnest.

So....

Yes, it is already apparent the game is considerably better looking than ps360 musou games. But like every musou game, its graphics are pretty mediocre for the system, although the art design is a notable leap over anything from dynasty/samurai. So if you want mediocre graphics on wii u that are better than mediocre graphics that came from ps360, there you go.

No need to be rude. You're assuming a lot. I'm keeping an open mind, not biased at all. I've done a fair amount of research on Hyrule and haven't seen or heard of anything especially new or inventive that will distinguish it from past titles. I'm not saying it absolutely for sure won't be different or revolutionary for the series, just that from what I've seen so far it doesn't seem to be.

Your description of the differences are very general. Can you explain specifically how the combat is different? Are movesets styled differently? Are special moves different? Is enemy design different in some way? Are there substantial improvements to past problems of Warriors games such as frame rate issues?

Just because a different team is working on the game doesn't mean it will be substantially different. Trailers of the game I've seen so far certainly don't look any different from past titles. You mention exploration and discovery, Specifically, how is this title different in that area? Past warriors games have all had elements of exploration and discovery. Are there different game modes in this title or exploration objectives that we haven't seen before?

From the trailers I've seen the game doesn't look different at all from past titles in the series, barring the graphics which I agree are better and will be a solid reason to pick up the title.

Again, I'm still considering picking up Hyrule. I'm keeping an open mind but have not been overjoyed by what I've seen which I think is completely reasonable.

#294610 Hyrule Warriors

Posted by alex15810 on 31 July 2014 - 05:42 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I really am not excited at all for this game. As far as I've heard it's just another Dynasty Warriors game but with Zelda skins slapped on it. Is there anything new or inventive about this title that makes it better/different from the Dynasty Warriors game we already have on the Wii U - Orochi Warriors 3 Hyper? I've played a lot of Dynasty Warriors games on past consoles but don't own/don't plan to buy Hyrule. If I do buy one of them I'm leaning towards Orochi over Hyrule because it's a more mature title and claims to have 130 playable characters. Haven't played Orochi but I'm guessing Hyrule will have better graphics as Orochi on Wii U is a port so that could make me reconsider.

#294609 Nintendo Tvii problem

Posted by alex15810 on 31 July 2014 - 05:32 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Yep Nintendo has serious work to do on the TVii app. It was utter garbage for the longest time. The update which added trivia, ect. I did like and now get a bit of enjoyment out of while watching sport games as it gives me a way to interact better with the game.

But it's still laggy, crashes and is slow. Keep working Nintendo. It has a lot of potential.

#294519 Wii U sales

Posted by alex15810 on 30 July 2014 - 10:48 AM in Wii U News

My 2 cents -

Bayonetta and Hyrule, while sure to be solid releases are not system sellers. We've seen these titles before, neither franchise is new. They weren't system sellers then, why would they be now? We had Bayonetta 1 in 2010 and Hyrule is just a reskin of Dynasty Warriors and there have been a ton of those games over the years. We actually already have a Dynasty Warriors game on Wii U, Warriors Orochi Hyper and it sold like garbage. I don't think reskinning the characters into Link, Zelda, ect. is going to help sales that much.

My point is these games in the past have been solid releases but nobody went out and bought a console just so they could play Bayonetta 1 or Dynasty Warriors 3.

Does anyone outside of Nintendo fans even know about these 2 new games? Sure, some do. But not many. I certainly don't hear anyone talking about them outside of Nintendo message boards.

What sells systems is Nintendo's major 1st party releases - Mario 2D, Mario 3D, Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Mario Party. Everyone knows about these games. And perhaps they can expand that list in the future with a new concept that turns out to be a hit.

But Bayonetta/Hyrule are not new concepts. I'm happy with the sales, still narrowly beating Xbone. The mario kart bump seems to have given us some sort of sustained boost. Hopefully Smash Brothers will increase this even further.

#294508 Would you buy more remakes of Pokemon?

Posted by alex15810 on 30 July 2014 - 09:37 AM in Wii U Games and Software

If they made a console pokemon game I'd throw my money at it immediately. I beat Pokemon Red several times back in the day on my old Gameboy Color but even if it was a remake of that I'd buy it.

But Nintendo never will, they want Pokemon to be exclusive to their handhelds to drive sales in that area. If they offered all their titles on both consoles and handhelds nobody would buy both.

#294426 HeadSet out there?

Posted by alex15810 on 29 July 2014 - 11:40 AM in Wii U Hardware

Honestly, buying a headset is a bad idea at this point. They are all very easy to break and have a very short life expectancy.

Buying with a mic is just more money and more things to break.

In my opinion, the best thing to do is get some hardy earbuds (I use gummies, and they last for quite a while. My current pair is a year old and still going) and then find some sort of stand alone mic.

Meh I disagree. There are several wii u headsets in the 10-20 dollar range that work just fine. I have this one: http://www.amazon.co...s=wii u headset

I've had it for over a year. No issues, working just fine. I tiny hinge on the left earphone broke when I dropped it onto a hardwood floor but it still stays in just fine. A standalone mic is fine on a PC when you are playing on a desk. But for a console I don't think a stand alone mic is very practical since you're sitting on a couch/chair with no desk.

I'm not even sure how a stand alone mic would work since the gamepad jack has only one input. Unlike a PC it doesn't have a separate green jack for headset and pink input for a mic.

#294414 High capacity battery?

Posted by alex15810 on 29 July 2014 - 07:21 AM in Wii U Hardware

As others said above, I just use the Pro controller for the vast majority of my gaming. It has a gigantic battery life.

And if you do prefer the gamepad, instead of spending a lot of money on another battery just keep an extension cord handy and plug the charger into the gamepad for those times when red light does come on. With an extension cord not having enough reach from a plug won't be an issue. This is what I did while playing Zombi U and other games that require the gamepad.

Maybe consider a new battery if having the charger plugged into the gamepad while playing really bothers you that much.

#294412 HeadSet out there?

Posted by alex15810 on 29 July 2014 - 07:09 AM in Wii U Hardware

Really? they are the only wireless universal headphones on the market? that seems impossible

I think they are. I did a lot of research for wireless headphones and I don't think there's another option. Even with wired it's tough to find alternatives since many USB headsets don't seem to work with Wii U. I have a pair of Siberia V2 USB headset with mic for PC gaming and was very disspointed when they didn't work with my Wii U.

If you aren't aware, even if you aren't using the gamepad as your controller you can plug a pair of wired headphones with mic into it and set it beside you to talk. I do this in Call of Duty. I play with the Pro Controller, but to chat I plug my cheap $15 Walmart Wii U headset into the gamepad and set it beside me.

I wish there was a better solution but Nintendo doesn't seem very concerned about supporting headsets. Probably because none of their 1st party games have voicechat support that I know of.

#292851 what should we expect from Hyrule Warriors?

Posted by alex15810 on 11 July 2014 - 05:35 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I spent a ridiculous amount of time playing Dynasty Warriors 3 on the PS2. These games are mindless fun, I personally love them. They are  hack and slash games on a huge map, so if you're not into that you might not like them. The biggest complaint people have about them is that the combat is repetitive, which I admit it is. It is a complete button masher. Either you love that or you hate it. I don't know how much Hyrule will be different, but in previous games there were different characters all with their own unique weapons, stats and special finishing moves. As you play levels you can find new weapons to make your character better, unlock additional characters, ect. There tends to be a lot of unlockables which makes the games very addictive.

All Dynasty Warriors games tend to be very similar so just try one of the older ones. They're sort of like Call of Duty games in that way...if you've played one you've played them all.  Hyrule will probably be extremely similar but with updated graphics and Zelda skins. I'm not expecting anything new.

#292672 Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - Video Review

Posted by alex15810 on 09 July 2014 - 05:59 AM in Wii U Game Reviews

Well, we always want more now, don't we?  :P

Well it's not wanting "more", it's wanting the same amount of gaming for my $ as last time. I personally am getting frustrated with Nintendo continuing to make its games shorter and shorter. DKC Returns was 8 worlds, with DKCTF we only got 6 yet were still charged $50.

#292276 Nyko Pro Commander @ $12.99 each? Advice?

Posted by alex15810 on 03 July 2014 - 07:23 AM in Wii U Hardware

Ok, so my wii u is coming in today and I'm looking to buy a pro controller so I am a little more comfortable with some games since I am an avid gamer. I was looking at the Nintendo Wii U Pro Controller and in my opinion I think it's a bit overpriced. I found these Nyko Pro Commander controllers for $12.99 a piece through this groupon. If you buy two you also get free shipping which doesn't seem like a bad deal. Has anyone had experience with this controller, and is it worth it even at this price? Looking to pull the trigger soon so opinions are welcomed!

https://www.groupon....aa3fc1c24d8de27

Thanks!

I own a Wii U Pro Controller and I also bought 2 Nyko Pro Commanders through that groupon promotion.

I like the Nintendo controller a lot more and recommend it over the Nyko. The Nykos are smaller, don't feel as good in my hand, and the #1 thing I hate about them is the joysticks are concave on the top, not convex like the Nintendo Pro Controller. Because of this I have huge problems making the small, precise finger movements I need to make...especially when playing call of duty and mario kart 8. Concave is just a horrible design IMO, it forces me to put my thumb in one spot on the joystick instead being able to put my thumbs in a variety of different positions. However, this is just me. My brother doesn't seem to mind it.

As for positives, If you are a long time Xbox 360 player you might like the Nyko because it is virtually a copy of a 360 controller - it has a staggered joystick design unlike the Nintendo Pro which has both joysticks on top of the controller. Also, the surface of the controller has a good grip and texture, better than the Nintendo controller's glossy surface. And the price is obviously much better than the Nintendo Pro Controller. if you need a few extra controllers for your friends to play with you on ocassions but don't want to shell out the money for multiple Nintendo controllers, the Nykos are a good buy. That's what I bought mine for.

Genius. Have not thought of doing this.

#292133 Why The Lack of Third Party Support May Be a Blessing

Posted by alex15810 on 01 July 2014 - 01:53 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I have to respectfully disagree with your article's main point.

You seem to be implying that relationships with 3rd party developers is a net loss for Nintendo. This doesn't make sense. If this was the case then there would be no 3rd party games on any console. Yes, Nintendo pays the developers to make the game but having sucessful 3rd party games on the console is a win-win for both the Nintendo and the game developers. It makes the console more attractive. If the process wasn't beneficial for Nintendo they wouldn't try to do it. Neither would Sony or Microsoft.

That's the big negative about Nintendo that until recently really harmed the Wii U's reputation - lack of games and 3rd party support. This is one of the biggest reasons the Wii U has not been received well.  Many people have not bought a Wii U for this reason, there's no way it's a positive.

Can't view the link at work so I'll throw in my own ideas.

- It won't happen but what I've always wanted was a 3D platformer playable with the Wii Balance Board. I think that would be so cool.

- I also would love to see a photography game that uses the Gamepad as a camera. Something like Fatal Frame or Pokemon Snap.

- A sequel to Super Mario RPG
