#297881 What is your favorite gaming system?

Posted by alex15810 on 03 September 2014 - 10:35 AM in General Gaming

Either SNES or PS2.

SNES I grew up with as a little kid but PS2 was my primary console from middle school all the way through college as I skipped the last generation entirely and stuck with PS2. I got my PS2 in 2000/2001 and got my Wii U in January 2013 so it was my primary console for 12 years.

So all in all I have to go with PS2. That console was amazing...the game library is absurdly huge and it's full of masterpiece titles.

Only problem is it now looks like garbage blown up on my 42 inch HD TV...I need to get a smaller screen if I want to play it again.

WIi U I really like but it's in the middle of my list so far. I love the gamepad idea and its uniqueness but I have been really dissapointed by the lack of 3rd party support that I was expecting when I bought it. Of the consoles I've owned it's passed N64, Sega Genesis and PS1 on my list but it can't hold a candle to PS2 or SNES. And that's where I'm expecting the Wii U to stay on my list...right in the middle. Some great upside but some really bad downsides as welll.

#295155 Mario Bros U how to save?

Posted by alex15810 on 06 August 2014 - 05:51 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Yeah it's a little funky how the saving works. To get a reliable save you have to beat a castle or fortress. I believe ghost houses save as well. Quick save only works once so if you load it and then exit again without saving I believe you lose it. But it's better than prior mario games where bottom line you could only save after beating a boss.

#291500 Currently playing thread

Posted by alex15810 on 25 June 2014 - 06:22 AM in General Gaming

Played MK8 like mad the first few weeks it was out. I'm playing much less now, maybe a half hour a day. Getting a little burned out.

Ever since the Wii Fit U update last week I've been spending a lot of time there.

Have messed around with Windwaker HD but it's not drawing too much interest. Still playing Black Ops 2 ocassionally when I get the urge. Trine 2 is also getting played every once in a while...I'm beating it very slowly.

That's about it right now.

#294626 Hyrule Warriors

Posted by alex15810 on 31 July 2014 - 11:23 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I'm still confused as to why you seem to be getting so angry/defensive in your posts. You also keep making up things I don't believe/never said such as I claim to more than anyone else, I claimed this is a cash grab, I claim to know all about the game, I said I know better than to be excited for this, I'm looking to maintain a certain narrative, ect. Go back and re-read, I never said any of that. You're making things up.

Also not sure what you mean by "And then you come in straight from last year"...this thread has been active lately and I post fairly frequently on these boards. Both praising Nintendo titles and sometimes (like this one) not praising it.

This thread is about a poll asking if we are excited for Hyrule, all I'm doing is chiming in with my opinion. No I've not spent hours and hours researching the game but I've watched Nintendo's E3 demo and have read some posts/upcoming game articles about it. I don't claim to know all. If I'm mistaken or missing something that's totally fine, please point it out I want to learn more about the title.

I've played several of them and Dynasty Warriors 3 in particular I've spent hundreds of hours playing. But yes, many of the features you mentioned I've seen before.

In Warriors 3, to get the most powerful weapons for the characters you had to search, explore and find supply teams and loot the weapons. There have been large selections of weapons for all characters in past games. While I haven't played the game I know Orochi hyper has a weapon crafting system as well as purchasable weapons.

We've had mini-bosses before with their own movesets. We've had large creatures before. The large elephants in Warriors 3 come to mind but Hyrule's look much improved so props to Hyrule for that.

Some of the other features you mentioned like crystal switches, puzzles ect. we haven't exactly seen that before so that looks neat and different. We did have gates to close and gate captains to kill in Warriors 3. We also had to search out certain targets to trigger on battle field events but nothing like you've mentioned so looking forward to hearing more about those.

Not really sure how to approach this, as your quantifiers for quality seem exceptionally pedantic and contrary to game quality in favor of cosmetic fluff.

The game is already shaping up to be considerably different from other warriors games, from the fundamental combat being handled and reworked by Ninja gaidens team ninja instead of the usual musou team, and the world design style being redesigned to take into account adventure game exploration and discovery elements.

But typically people content to listening to hearsay dont really care whats actually happening and just want to reinforce their preconceived bias, otherwise they would have looked into it themselves with earnest.

So....

Yes, it is already apparent the game is considerably better looking than ps360 musou games. But like every musou game, its graphics are pretty mediocre for the system, although the art design is a notable leap over anything from dynasty/samurai. So if you want mediocre graphics on wii u that are better than mediocre graphics that came from ps360, there you go.

No need to be rude. You're assuming a lot. I'm keeping an open mind, not biased at all. I've done a fair amount of research on Hyrule and haven't seen or heard of anything especially new or inventive that will distinguish it from past titles. I'm not saying it absolutely for sure won't be different or revolutionary for the series, just that from what I've seen so far it doesn't seem to be.

Your description of the differences are very general. Can you explain specifically how the combat is different? Are movesets styled differently? Are special moves different? Is enemy design different in some way? Are there substantial improvements to past problems of Warriors games such as frame rate issues?

Just because a different team is working on the game doesn't mean it will be substantially different. Trailers of the game I've seen so far certainly don't look any different from past titles. You mention exploration and discovery, Specifically, how is this title different in that area? Past warriors games have all had elements of exploration and discovery. Are there different game modes in this title or exploration objectives that we haven't seen before?

From the trailers I've seen the game doesn't look different at all from past titles in the series, barring the graphics which I agree are better and will be a solid reason to pick up the title.

Again, I'm still considering picking up Hyrule. I'm keeping an open mind but have not been overjoyed by what I've seen which I think is completely reasonable.

I really am not excited at all for this game. As far as I've heard it's just another Dynasty Warriors game but with Zelda skins slapped on it. Is there anything new or inventive about this title that makes it better/different from the Dynasty Warriors game we already have on the Wii U - Orochi Warriors 3 Hyper? I've played a lot of Dynasty Warriors games on past consoles but don't own/don't plan to buy Hyrule. If I do buy one of them I'm leaning towards Orochi over Hyrule because it's a more mature title and claims to have 130 playable characters. Haven't played Orochi but I'm guessing Hyrule will have better graphics as Orochi on Wii U is a port so that could make me reconsider.

I'm buying the characters I like because they look cool. Probably won't use them after the first time for the lolz.

Lol this is exactly what i'd do. I'm considering buying a DK figure but after I use it once it'd probably just be a dust collector sitting on my shelf.

Good thing I saw this thread, I keep forgetting to pre-order a few...

Same here. I hadn't planned on buying one..but the more I read and thinking about it, for $12 it's hard to resist the urge to not buy atleast one.

#297965 Wii U gamepad issues... HELP!

Posted by alex15810 on 04 September 2014 - 01:55 PM in Wii U Hardware

Well I tried everything I could. I'm going to just keep holding out on finding a cheap WiiU gamepad or console on craigslist or ebay. Sure as hell not giving Nintendo 180 bucks to fix something that might take them 10 minutes. I guess those that have been saying a WiiU bundled without a gamepad have a more valid point now.

That sucks, sorry. Do you have a warranty? This should be covered if you do.

#297870 Wii U gamepad issues... HELP!

Posted by alex15810 on 03 September 2014 - 05:34 AM in Wii U Hardware

For $180 dollars it's not worth fixing, you can buy a new one cheaper than that. New gamepads are going for $155 on ebay currently.

http://www.ebay.com/...ac#ht_691wt_797

Do other controllers work fine? It's not something with the console is it? Have you tried this with the gamepad plugged into the charger? Maybe it's a battery issue. Try resyncing the gamepad if you haven't already. Also if you have a buddy with a Wii U have him/her bring their gamepad over so you can be sure it's not the console. Is there any physical damage? Is the the sensor on the gamepad or the console covered up or blocked?

Good luck.

#296506 Do Any Of You Use Your Wii U As A Portable?

Posted by alex15810 on 21 August 2014 - 05:12 AM in Wii U Hardware

Yes, I travel for my job and take it to hotels and play it all the time. Also doubles as a way for me to watch Netflix away from home.

#295508 The Name Wii U is 'Abysmal,' Former Nintendo Indie Boss Says - IGN

Posted by alex15810 on 11 August 2014 - 05:41 AM in Wii U Hardware

No doubt the Wii U is a terrible name and contributed to the poor sales. Still to this day many people think it's a gamepad add on for the wii.

Nintendo definitely should have gone with a new name entirely and dropped the Wii moniker. Or at the minimum called it the Wii 2, atleast that way people would know that it's a different, newer console.

I'd buy a Wii U just for Smash 4. Been sitting in my Wii U since it came out...can't stop playing it.

#295050 I need help with my gamepad.

Posted by alex15810 on 05 August 2014 - 10:19 AM in Wii U Hardware

I don't think these are problems with the actual controller.

As far as your second problem - In black ops 2 there are a few bugs. One of them I've noticed is if you move your analog stick while the game map is loading you'll turn in circles and won't be able to stop. if you are on a menu you'll scroll through the menu uncontrollably. You'll have to switch to a different controller then switch back to fix it. I've experienced this numerous times and it seems to be tied to moving the analog stick while the game is loading. This could be what's happening to you. Next time it happens try switching to a different controller then back to the gamepad and see if it fixes it.

Also, your first problem sounds like game lag that's related to your TV. Play windwaker for a minute on your gamepad screen only - off of your TV, see if it lags. If it doesn't, then it's for sure a problem with your TV. Have you turned your TV to "game mode"? My TV will lag as you described if I'm not in game mode. Check your TV's settings. Also, what TV are you using? if you are using an older TV or a cheap TV it might not have the specs to keep up with the console.

If these don't work you could try resyncing your gamepad with the console.

#295059 I need help with my gamepad.

Posted by alex15810 on 05 August 2014 - 12:44 PM in Wii U Hardware

Ok so 2 things i want to note. 1. i meant the right analog stick is having the big bug and 2, i tryed cod ghost and monster hunter, the problem is their, i bought this wii u at a best buy with 3 years warrenty for any situation. Oh! and i tried the off tv mode to see if it was just tv lag but no, its also on the  gamepad, im thinking its MOSTLY hardware problem. My tv isn't really old, hd, made by sharp and its LED i think, very good one.

Hmm sorry that's bad news. I have no idea what it is then. I think all you can do is call Nintendo customer service and see if they know what it is. Be as specific as you can about what's happening. If they can't help it looks like you'll have to send it in for repairs. I'm sure it's covered by the warranty - worst part is you'll be without your gamepad and maybe console for a while.

#295151 I need help with my gamepad.

Posted by alex15810 on 06 August 2014 - 05:35 AM in Wii U Hardware

 Ok I have good news. I did a test with my pro controller, i used it in cod and it worked well so i was 100% sure it was the gamepad. So i tried resync but it did nothing. So my last solution was to open and check inside the pad, i unplug and repluged the wite that conects the right analog to the motherboard and after putting it back togheter it fixed the problem, its even work better then ever! I did a last test and saw that my tv DOES have a slight lag, on the pad everything responded imidiatly. Thank you all so much for your help. I can say its a good first experience with being in a forum. Thank you alex and cranky kong!

Glad you fixed it! Although I think you should have sent it in for repairs instead of fixing it yourself because opening up the gamepad like that probably just voided your warranty. In any case glad you don't need it anyway. Hopefully you put the thing back together so nobody can tell it was opened...just in case you need to send it in for repair some time down the road.

#296508 Co-Founder Of Sledgehammer Games Says Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare Won’t Be Com

Posted by alex15810 on 21 August 2014 - 05:30 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Yeah I know all we get are gimped versions anyhow but it is like all these 3rd party publishers are trying to muscle Nintendo out of the hardware business.

I actually feel the opposite. I feel Nintendo is forcing me to go to Sony. I bought a Wii U shortly after launch planning for it to be the only system I owned...believing Nintendo when they said we'd get 3rd party support this gen. Now because of a few major screw ups on Nintendo's part, a seemingly lack of interest in marketing the Wii U or dedication in convincing 3rd parties to develop they've ran off 3rd party support. So now I'm being forced to spend an extra $400 on a second console. I do feel shafted, not gonna lie.

Nintendo's exclusives are second to none, no doubt. But they're all short games pretty much all of them are very beatable in 1-3 weeks. Less than a week if you really go on a gaming marathon. There's just not enough gameplay in the major 1st party nintendo games alone to allow me to stick with Nintendo exclusively unfortunately. And I'm not even a hardcore gamer. Some weeks I don't play at all. Most weeks I'm between 5-15 hours of play time.

I probably post more negative posts than most on this board and I try not to as I love Nintendo but I've just been so dissapointed by so many of Nintendo's bonehead moves this gen that it's hard not to be. Nintendo should be owning the industry right now, their 1st parties are heads above everyone elses. If they'd just get the 3rd party support it would be game over. Sony and Microsoft wouldn't have a chance.

OK /end rant.

#296580 Co-Founder Of Sledgehammer Games Says Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare Won’t Be Com

Posted by alex15810 on 22 August 2014 - 05:43 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I think all of you make good points that 3rd parties backed out. And they did, I'll give you that. But let me give you my 2 cents -

This whole awful domino effect in the end was Nintendo's fault. It's their job to make their console an attractive one for 3rd parties to develop games on, not vice versa. The 3rd parties are a business. If the console isn't profitable to develop or too risky to develop on then they have every right to take their developer hours to Sony and Microsoft.

Maybe Nintendo didn't directly cut off 3rd party support, but all of their dumb decisions like horrible marketing, horrendous year 1 game release schedule, flubbing the name of the console, making the console a challenge to develop on because of the decision not to make hardware competitive with Sony/Microsoft, ect. are all Nintendo's fault.

Maybe Nintendo doesn't deserve all the blame but they certainly deserve some if not most of it. Maybe 3rd parties gave up too soon but as I see it in the end it is mostly Nintendo's fault for not making the console attractive enough to 3rd parties.

Posted by alex15810 on 20 August 2014 - 09:01 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Big letdown. I love the CoD games, I've spent 100s of hours on BO2 for Wii U. I was already considering getting a PS4 this fall this makes my decision easier.

I've been so letdown by the lack of 3rd party support. When I bought my Wii U shortly after launch I was expecting to get all these ports.

Not getting GTA 5 hurt badly, then it was not getting SP: Stick of Truth or a Zombi U sequel. Now we aren't even getting CoD games. What a huge dissapointment.

#290502 Mario Kart 8 DLC

Posted by alex15810 on 16 June 2014 - 07:59 AM in Wii U Games and Software

For DLC I want battle tracks. Because battle mode right now is pretty much unplayable. The standard tracks are just too big and drawn out.

I'd like to see some improvements to online play as well...something more than a single rating. Nintendo should take ideas from call of duty and give us achievments, improved and detailed stats, cosmetic unlockables, ect.

Online play is so important. I want things to shoot for or I'm going to lose interest. We should have cosmetic unlockables for things like winning a certain number of races, winning a race on each track, hitting a certain number of racers with a boomerang, ect.
