#303290 Custom or PC architecture?

Posted by Mahmoodinho98 on 18 November 2014 - 10:59 AM in Wii U Hardware

For the sake of actually getting third party games that aren't eShop exclusive, PC. The big Two are basically PC's(They use an x86 architecture) and that's what one of the two big reasons Why we live in an era of little to no third party exclusive games(Minus Indies) that aren't funded in part by the Console makers. The other reason is that Game Budgets are now heavily inflated to the point where it's not feasable to say "This game isn't coming to PSOne" when you can get it ported and running rather easily. Wii U, as I've said before, is completely isolated in the current Gen tech wise and for the base of consumers it's not feasable to port a game to it, make sure it runs, optimize the system, and then manufacture it for what will amount to less then 10% of your copies sold. It's like making sure your film is catered to the Russian Audience when translated when it's an American film and those that watch it in Russia will likely be doing so illegally.

I dont seem to agree with you, most of the well know game engines these days (cry engine, unity, unreal) have native support for Wii U's architecture  so there is no reason  why Wii U ports should be a problem for a developer, all they have to do is to optimize the game which should be done not only for Wii U  but for all systems.

#303139 Custom or PC architecture?

Posted by Mahmoodinho98 on 17 November 2014 - 09:06 AM in Wii U Hardware

Custom architecture allows a hardware company to balance the specs of the system. It also allow for better power consumption and an efficient system.

About game porting;

companies can use game engines that support those different architectures . for example Cry engine supports all major platforms including Wii U which is running PPC . PPC is very hard to emulate on X86 chips and hardware(ps4,Xbox one) thats the reason why we dont have an xbox 360 emulator.

Xbox One is not running Call of Duty sub HD.

Oh sorry , I meant sub 1080p

PC games arent optimized, so the same game on a console with the same specs should outperform the PC game, and we see countless benchmarks that show the AMD HD5550 (320 SPU) running games much better than Wii U runs them.  Im not saying they were properly optimized for Wii U, but a 320 spu gpu should be running them better.  Even if your cpu limited, you should still be able to up the resolution, that doesnt add any work to the cpu, just the gpu.  I think the 160 spu gpu makes more sense, and would easily outperform the AMD HD6450 GPU in a console setting.  What is curious though, the X1 seems to be underperforming.  I find it hard to believe that a 1.2 T-flop gpu struggled to run COD Ghost in 1080p when weaker GPU's on PC handle it just fine.  When you look at X1's specs, it seems like its underperforming for sure.

DUDE.......How can I explain this???
Wii U specs

1.2ghz PPC processor

2GB of RAM

550mhz UKNOwn GPU

YOUR  AMD HD5550 RIG SPECS.(Note;when you are benchmarking a graphics card you are supposed to give it as much resources as possible)

At least a core i3(Am sure its an i7)

definetly 8GB of RAM(if not 16)

A 1000watt power supply

OH 5550 GDDR5(not DDR3)

Please USE YOUR BRAIN and compare the specs

The reason that xbox one GPU is running call of duty at sub HD is the fact that its running on DDR3 VRAM (bandwith of 30-40gb/s) compared to its PC and Ps4 counterparts which are running a GDDR5(70-150gb/s) this 30-60gb/s difference can make miracles

Yes we can, because they are not consoles but PC's and showing everything they have right now. Everything they have to offer is on the table.

There is nothing to discover or unlock. Wii U does. PS360 did because they are consoles.

Just because their running an X86 processor that doesnt make them PCs. Ok lets consider that they are PCs, their GPU is equivilant to r7 260x.

R7 260x can run most games on 1080p  with high graphics quality. if you dont believe me go google it. The reason that those consoles are struggling is that developers are yet to discover their power. you must also put infact that consoles are very diffrent from PCs because they have diffrent architecture.

One last thing . You said Wii U has alot to unlock. am sure that most people are hoping that Wii U is as powerful as xbox one or near that.

Xbox One isn't optimised for Xbox One. If you hadn't noticed, almost all games run worse on the One than the PS4 due to a POWER difference, not optimisation. You can claim optimisation if the console is more powerful and still running the games worse (like the Wii U vs PS360 thing), but if the power difference actually exists then it's hard to call it an optimisation problem.

1. The equivillant of xbox one GPU on pc can run crysis 3 at very high at 720p and maintain 25-30fps

2. PS4 and xbox one are running the same gpu except that ps4  version has more cores

3.Their CPU is the same

4. whats really giving ps4 a lead is that ps4 is using GDDR5 ram which has a bandwith of 72gb/s while xbox one ddr3 can do 35-40gb/s. developers can close this gab by using the extremely fast  esram

lets remember that we are at the beginning of xbox one life span so we cant really judge

Sorry, but no.  Pointing to the good looking Nintendo first party games only prove Nintendo has talented artist and programmers.  The HD5550 can run Batman Arkham City in 1080p native, and hold a framerate well above 30 fps.  Wii U struggled to run it at 30fps in 720p native.  I dont argue that these ports werent properly optimized for Wii U, but PC games arent optimized either.  A PC with the same specs as a console should never outclass it.  Ignoring game performance, some pretty educated people wete able to actually count the registers, and there were only enough for 160 spu's.  So the two scenarios we have is that either Wii U's GPU is a close match to the HD6450, even power draw supports this, or its close to the HD5550 but for some reason severely underperforms.  The HD5550 can run ever single multi plat far better on PC than the Wii U runs them.  It would actually support the idea of incompetance if Nintendo built a console that is less than the sum of its parts.

Lets make it very simple

1. optimisation : it can make a huge diffrence interms of framerate, quality and resolution, a good example is PES 15. Fox engine isnt optimised for Xbox one resulting in a resolution of 720p compared to 1080p on PS4.

2.Computers are running much higher specs, here is what i mean

Wii U  has 2gb of ram and 32mb of esram. it runs  arkham city (with very little optimisation ) at 720 30fps.  the computer which is running the game with 1080p probably has  atleast 4gb or ram and a core i3 processor which is 4 times more powerfull than that of ps4 and xbox one.

3. the game was intended for limmited number of systems and the Wii U version was just and xbox 360nwith diffrent UI.

4. even the game is not running well on its intended systems. here is quote from Wikipedia"

Technical issues

During launch week, issues were found to exist in the code-restricted content. Some customers discovered the code to be missing from their copy, preventing them from obtaining the Catwoman story missions. The problem was reported by customers in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Warner Bros. issued a statement claiming that the missing codes had affected less than 0.5% of customers.[227] Upon release in the United Kingdom, a technical issue rendered the game unplayable for some players, booting them from the game with an error message that the "downloadable content is corrupt." Rocksteady European community manager Sarah Wellock claimed that the fault lay with the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live online systems.[228]

In early November 2011, Rocksteady confirmed that it was investigating reports by numerous users that save files for the Xbox 360 version of the game were being erased without prompting, resulting in players losing their progress and being unable to complete the game.[229][230] On launch, performance issues arose for the PC version when DirectX 11 features were enabled; the developer acknowledged the inconvenience and recommended to run the game with DirectX 9 while a title update was released to address this matter."

if you want more . Arkham city runs terribly on my PC which has an amd 9590 CPU and GTX 970.

Everytime Ubisoft makes a comment my answer is : WHERE IS WATCHDOGS????????

Anyway, 30fps is good if their is a huge gain; something like 4K but 1080p 30fps is waste of time. not to mention framerate dips in most of UBIsoft games(its like playing crysis 3 on very high using a geforce GT 210).

Again ubisoft, WHERE IS MY WATCHCATS...cough..WATCHDOGS???

#299851 My Gigabyte Brix Gaming review

Posted by Mahmoodinho98 on 05 October 2014 - 11:10 PM in The Café

Oops, sorry.

Tomb Raider, ultra settings, 1600x900 - 33fps.

Half-Life 2 (lol), 1600x900, 4x AA, 16x AF, maxed - approximately 200 fps.

Crysis - ultra settings, 1600x900 - about 25fps. (I prefer High just because)

Also, here is what gaming on the integrated graphics as opposed to the dedicated card is like:

Half-Life 2, 1600x900, 4x AA, 16x AF, maxed - 30 fps.

(That's an 7x boost by using the card!)

n6fbds.jpg

This is so beautiful !!!!! The color of the case is absolutelly beautifull. The fps on integrated chip is amazing (AMD made a great investment when they bought ATI) I have a coucple of questions

1.Is it running its own built in powersupply???

2.does it have bluetooth????

3.How is its gaming performance in ubuntu????

#299829 My Gigabyte Brix Gaming review

Posted by Mahmoodinho98 on 05 October 2014 - 12:39 PM in The Café

I ended up getting this Brix AMD gaming machine: http://www.amazon.co...ref=mp_s_a_1_13

I paired it with 4GB RAM and a 128GB SDD. So I started it up and files moved quick, thanks to the SSD, but processor intensive operations were slow.

I quickly figured out that the processor was in something called Operation mode to save fan noise, meaning it only clocks to 1.9GHz. Gigabyte seemed to make a decision this was the best default setting. And it was noticably slow in general use. However in BIOS, I changed the setting to Turbo to cause the processor to clock to 2.9-3.1GHz, and it now performs admirably.

Compared to a system with a Core i7-4500u, 8GB RAM, and a Geforce 750M, my system performed 35-40% better at games. This is not a number I just pulled out of my butt - the better graphics card makes it so you can go up a notch in resolution over the Core i7/750m system.

The system is as loud as a small hair dryer, and outputs feelable heat out the sides as you game. But man, is it fast. I recommend pairing it with a 1600x900 screen resolution, unless you don't mind mild settings.

So as a recap, a 3.1GHz AMD A8-5557M, with 4GB RAM and a 640 shader M275x graphics card with 2GB GDDR5, performs 35-40% faster in games than a 3 GHz Core i7-4500u, 8GB RAM, and a 384 shader Geforce 750M card with 4GB GDDR3. Of course it also moves files faster than the other system due to having a SSD, but in processor intensive applications, it's really only about 20-30% slower than a Core i7-4500u when Turbo is on, to be honest. And that's with half the RAM. Of course, this last 20-30% figure is going by "how fast" it feels and how it compiles code and such.

I was expecting alot of heat because their throwing massive power inside a mini htpc case but from what you wrote it doesnt produce much heat.

I would like to correct something , Geforce 750M runs on ddr3 not GDDR3. So its basiclly running with the same bandwith as your RAM.

I was hoping for some FPS but its very good short review but am planning to get the zotac e3 as you recommednded.

#299759 Just how badly CPU bottlenecked is the PS4/XBox One?

Posted by Mahmoodinho98 on 04 October 2014 - 06:08 AM in General Gaming

Xbox and PS are based on AMD A4 microprocessor, which is very low end apu. Put in fact that, Some AMD A8 based on richland architecture are bottlencking  r7 240.

Lets remember that they have speciallised processors. I even heard a rumor that Xbox one processor is much faster than the one in ps4 but lets remember that this is just a rumor.

I can confidently say that core i5 is 6-10x more powerfull than that of next gen console.

I hope i answered you question .

There is 250-300 bucks i5 barbones...Thats Great!!!!  Do you know some i can buy????

I would suggest a barebones i5 quad with a board that you can upgrade.... Be around 250-300 bucks, with os.

Buy some ram, a 150-250 dollar gpu.

Wont have a small form factor.... But good bang for the buck.

Not just the performance of the i5, its a lot more mature techwise and reliable than amd cpu products right now.

I would recommend nvidia because their GPUs are less power hungry

as i said; i5 is great but its alot more expensive than its competitor in AMD(FX 8350)

#299679 Hey 3Dude (or other computer experts)

Posted by Mahmoodinho98 on 03 October 2014 - 05:28 AM in The Café

Are you sure the Athlon CPU is slow though? It's the latest model and as fast as an AMD FX. You might be thinking of the older Athlons.

Still though, I can spot two major problems with this build...

FX has an advantge of having L3 cache which improves the performance of the computer. it also has a high clockspeed and unlocked multiplier which means you have the chance to overclock in the future. since you are using AM3+ socket for Your FX,You have the chance of upgrading to more powerfull Cpus. On the other hand , Anthlon is using FM2+ which means your top option is A10 CPU.

Here is some data I got from Toms Hardware

"FX 4300 is great for games
FX 4300 -6610 points .3D Mark 11 Phisics , gamers benchmark
i5 4670 -6830 points
FX 8350 - 6880 points
FX 6300 - 6080 points
Athlon X4 760K - 3620 points"

Put in fact that its being compared againts an i5.

What are the problems you spotted in my build????

I would prefer an icore over amd cpu's right now personally.... But thats just me.

Although it seems a little over priced to me.

I agree with you intel is great but, if your on budget its better to get amd.

Yes its way overpriced , specially the fact that it has that slow anthlon CPU

#299616 Hey 3Dude (or other computer experts)

Posted by Mahmoodinho98 on 02 October 2014 - 11:34 AM in The Café

I will be buying this computer and me and the seller already agreed on a price. I was just wondering what you thought it was worth in US $. And no, I'm not selling it, I will be using it.

Mini-ITX form factor
Athlon X4 860K
Wifi
8GB 2133MHz
240GB Samsung Evo SSD
Radeon 260 graphics card
430 watt power supply, 80 plus, EVGA
No OS
Custom built
Free 2-3 day shipping

The Intel NUC was defective, so I returned it.

Dude dont buy this device!!!! Everything is great except the processor, R7 260 is a Great GPU if your on budget but combing it with an antlon will bottleneck the GPU or in other words, it will badly slow it down. And that PSU is a disaster; it will ruin your entire build if it malfunctions

Here is Good build for the same price;

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/v8cQwP

This build can play you all games on high quality and on 1080p ( frame Rate on minimum of 30 fps per minute)

1.Battlefield 4, 38fps on high , 28fps on ultra. all at 1080p

2.crysis 3 can do 36-40 fps on high and 30 on very high, 1080p

something else , stay away from intel i5 NUC; its a waste of money.
