#290651 Zelda U graphics thoughts

Posted by Bort on 17 June 2014 - 12:10 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Did the Digital Event make its way to the eshop yet? That's going to be the highest quality feed we will ever get of this, so we can compare the screens to the video.

Yup. Anyone got a capture card?

#290574 Xenoblade X releasing in 2015

Posted by Bort on 16 June 2014 - 08:19 PM in E3 2014 Archive

I'll be surprised if it doesn't have multiplayer. Rather curiously, not counting games that don't have their number of players listed, it's the only game on Nintendo's E3 site that has the number of players listed as TBD.

#288189 Wii U Forums Mario Kart 8 Tournament

Posted by Bort on 04 June 2014 - 07:07 PM in Wii U Games and Software

If you want more successful results in terms of room size, I'd recommend making this one day of the week for a couple hours. Sounds silly, but this way everyone knows when to play.

I just tried it, it works.

#293707 VC Paper Mario Help

You need to receive an item called "Lucky Star" first. It'll give you a tutorial and everything, you'll know it when you get it.

#290572 The Wii U is actually portable!

Posted by Bort on 16 June 2014 - 08:01 PM in Wii U Hardware

I might bring mine to school sometimes next year to play during lunch, if I really feel the need. Kinda feels silly when I already own a 3DS though. Then again, 4 player Smash Bros sounds really enticing, and some of my friends don't own a 3DS...

I have a converter for my car that allows for portability as well. it's pretty cool.

Might have to do this for longer car rides.

#300692 Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: 50-Fact Extravaganza

Posted by Bort on 20 October 2014 - 12:42 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Pretty cool!

They are actually not calling it a ND, but a "live-stream event".

Maybe that means we will be seeing something different. :)

Hmm. I kinda noticed this, but didn't really think anything of it since it used the direct logo and is on the direct page. We'll see what's up on Thursday, I guess.

2.5 hours left... Is it typically best to view the Directs through Nintendo's own site? I use to do that, but sometimes I get disconnected.

Edit: 3.5 hours, sorry...

I usually watch from Nintendo's site, get disconnected, and then go to Youtube where it's generally pretty smooth. I'm going straight to Youtube this time.

Edit: Updated the op and title to state the video length and reflect the official name.

I'm greatly pleased overall. Much more hype than I thought it'd be, definitely wasn't expecting Mewtwo. May consider bringing my Wii U to school to play 8-player smash at lunch.

and they didnt even mention Amiibo!

except they did :P

#312075 SMASH 1.0.6 Update - 6 Stages Added To 8 Player Mode - Share Replay Data...

Posted by Bort on 15 April 2015 - 07:20 PM in Wii U Games and Software

not sure, hopefully we get an gamexplain video or someone shows us. I don't have a chance today to check it out myself. I assume it shares the replays to Miiverse, but perhaps social too?

good question. i would assume the sharing stuff might be in the 3ds version, mewtwo support. not sure about the mii fighter costumes and the 8 players stages are not supported obviously.

3DS has had sharing since 1.0.5. You can upload replays/snapshots/mii fighters to an online database, which people can look through and download from. They're deleted after a set amount of time (30 days iirc). All DLC is shared between versions (and you get a discount for buying it for both versions).

#287142 Question on Wii games

Posted by Bort on 29 May 2014 - 03:25 PM in Wii U Hardware

US yes, Wii U's in Europe can't.

...oh. My bad.

#287114 Question on Wii games

Posted by Bort on 29 May 2014 - 12:57 PM in Wii U Hardware

It's annoying. I bought a component cable for Wii so that it could produce 480p and there is a difference, don't get why Wii U can't do 480p in Wii mode using HDMI.

It can, it just requires going into the Wii U settings and changing the resolution each time you want to play a Wii game. It would also require setting it back to HD to play Wii U games in HD. Not really any less annoying, but the option is there.

#286283 Please Help ME - Regarding Storage

Posted by Bort on 23 May 2014 - 07:16 PM in Wii U Hardware

If I remember correctly, any drive rated for USB 2.0 or older should work just fine. It's only the relatively new 3.0 drives that need a y-cable.

Edit: Don't quote me on that until I find a source.

Edit 2:

From http://www.nintendo....nal-usb-storage :

  1. Can bus-powered hard disc drives be used with Wii U?

    • Some bus-powered hard disc drives draw more current than the USB 2.0 specification and might not run stably, so we cannot guarantee that such devices will run properly on Wii U without the use of a supplemental power cable called a y-cable that draws power from two USB ports. For best results, we recommend using a hard drive with its own power supply that connects to the Wii U system via the USB port on the console.

So yeah. If it's officially certified as USB 2.0, you're fine. If it's 3.0/don't know, you're okay so long as you purchase a y-cable.

Sitting in school doing history homework to pass the time, lol. Only gonna be able to catch the first 15 minutes before my lunch ends, but that's better than nothing.

#289189 Nintendo Digital Event discussion

47 minutes in length. Was hoping for the full hour, but this is still decent.

#286088 Nintendo confirms NFC figurines for Super Smash Bros. Wii U.

Posted by Bort on 22 May 2014 - 11:30 AM in Wii U News

Very cool. And these figurines will also be able to be used for other titles too? I heard that is the case. Imagine transferring custom move sets to a figurine and taking it to your friends house. Kind of cool.

This will be something I will not only collect but make good use of.

I could easily see this... Especially since they were so secretive to how the custom move sets worked in the Direct, maybe they're holding out until NFP is officially unveiled to talk about it.

They are. These are basically custom designed classic controllers.

#304961 hooking Wii U to tv via HDMI on Sony Blue Ray receiver

Posted by Bort on 09 December 2014 - 06:24 PM in Wii U Hardware

Thanks for the replies!  I will have a chance to try it out this weekend, and I will report back.  Hoping for smooth and easy install!!

Someone mentioned that I could buy the component cables....and yes, I did know that, but I am thinking that quality would be better using the HDMI...and since that is what comes with the Wii U...I won't have to buy anything else.  Am I correct thinking the quality would be better?

Theoretically, yes. However, it varies by TV. In general, the higher the resolution, the more noticeable the difference. So, if your TV is 1080p, HDMI should look quite a bit better. If it's only 720p or 1080i, though, the difference will still be there, just not as pronounced. But I think you'll be fine hooking it up to the Blu Ray player, so I wouldn't worry about it.

#287106 Gamecube controller adapter for WIiU

Posted by Bort on 29 May 2014 - 11:58 AM in Wii U News

I'll probably be picking this up, with my 2 brothers both preferring GCN controllers. I'll have to experiment between the pro controller and this, though.

looks dumb and why does it require 2 usb ports?

One port probably doesn't meet the power requirement for 4 controllers.
