#7122 Super Smash Bros. 4 Discussion Thread

Posted by WeeYou on 15 June 2011 - 12:42 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I could see any where from 35 to even 50 characters. I'd really like to see them up the customization of matches. For example:
. being able to change how much damage individual weapons do
. setting it up so everybody starts with some item/weapon
. more alternate colors and costumes
. be able to make minute or large changes to gravity, movement speed, etc.
. more unique game modes besides the normal time, stock, coin, etc.

That's all I can think of for right now. I'm sure all of us have a million new ideas for game play and characters as we nintendo faithful always do when a new smash is on the way.

A gritty RPG with mature characters could really give us something fresh and less predictable.

You know, I think you're really right about this. People tend to think of RPGs as either very cartoon-y (or at least very stylized), or as RPG-lite (like Mass Effect, which really doesn't deserve the word RPG appended to its action genre category, IMO). Even something like Monster Hunter is far more action game than RPG.

I would LOVE to see a gritty, brooding RPG with tons of atmosphere and deep character development. I think it could be awesome.

Exactly. A whole new cast of characters that a mature audience can come to love. Mario speaking gibberish and prat falling doesn't appeal to the more mature audience out there.

It's seems like a lot of us want an RPG. Whether it's an entirely new one, or the long awaited return of the Mother series.

I want to see Nintendo's take on an MMO type of game. It should be completely new as well. New characters and maybe a few Legend of zelda cameos as well.

What about an MMO that takes place entirely in the world of Nintendo. It would be crazy. Possibly crazy awesome, possibly crazy awful.

I would want a fun, lightec hearted RPG, something that is engaging but doesn't take it's self seriously. Something with the atmosphere of portal.

Lol. Wish I had read your post before I made mine. I like how we both want RPGs but we want them to take it in completely different directions! <_<

I've recently got back into playing Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. I love what nintendo can bring to the RPG genre, and I'd really be curious to see them come out with a new and fresh RPG series. Possibly even one set in more modern times (like with guns rather than swords). With a dark tone (post apocalyptic maybe) and modern day weapons, nintendo could create a new darker franchise for the more mature and hardcore Nintendo fan base.

#8925 3DS - Wii U Connectivity Speculation Thread

Posted by WeeYou on 18 June 2011 - 06:00 PM in Wii U Hardware

It be cool if the wiiU let you do additional things with the 3DS and streetpass, but I hope that the WiiU brings a whole other level of friend-code-less connectivity.

If they do make a wiiU AC, I hope they take full advantage of the wiiU's power. If they don't fully overhaul the graphics, the least the could do is add a ton of new items, tons of new stuff to do, and just entirely new things the series hasn't seen before. Let's be honest, with each new AC game there's less and less of a reason to by the game, especially at full price. I really regret buying City Folk. I had logged hundreds of hours on wild world, and city folk didn't bring any noteworthy new features to the table.

Let's keep in mind that the whole 10% thing isn't some exact figure. It was just Reggie saying there's a lot more to look forward to. It's not like there's 90% more console to show...unless...unless...unless the ACTUAL WiiU is 10 WiiUs stacked on top of each other in a tower for maximum computing power! :D

#7131 Mario Kart Wii U

Posted by WeeYou on 15 June 2011 - 12:58 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I like the idea of Kart customisation and maybe using the Wii U's controller to draw pictures on the karts sort of like how Tekken using it.

At first I was really into the idea of adding tons of customization options, maybe even getting new better parts by winning races. But then again, mario kart has never really been about all that...

#9657 StarFox Assault 2 Could It Happen?

Posted by WeeYou on 20 June 2011 - 04:44 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I had heard that Assault was more "starfox-like". Adventures sure wasn't. They just threw fox into an action game with dinosaurs and called it Starfox.

#9532 StarFox Assault 2 Could It Happen?

Did you play Assault?

No, from the sound of it, it also suffered from lackluster on foot missions though.

Posted by WeeYou on 21 June 2011 - 03:47 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I also think (a la multiplayer from 64) that on-foot missions could work... there is no real reason that they couldn't. It all depends on presentation, and something unique and compelling about that aspect of the game. There should be a kind of fun that you can have on foot that is totally unique to that mode of play - a control or gameplay dynamic that makes those missions more than just a break of pace.

Yeah, even though it's not classic starfox, I am in now way in opposition to adding on foot missions to a star fox game as long as they are executed as well as flying in the arwing.

Man, I'm just glad there's some fan interest in the series... tbh, I didn't play assault or adventures. the one in my mind is 64, and I just like the series in general.

I must have played through Starfox64 almost 100 times. I suffered through 1 playthrough of adventures. The one for the DS wasn't half bad though.

#9792 StarFox Assault 2 Could It Happen?

Star Fox does seem like a game that would benefit from the Wii U's HD graphics, so I'd say there's a good chance it'll make its way onto the new console.

I sure hope so. Flying through space in HD would be pretty sweet.

#8928 StarFox Assault 2 Could It Happen?

Yeah, star fox 64 was the last great console star fox game, and it was entirely vehicle based. I could do without on foot missions. A return to the arwing is what the series needs to give it a shot in the arm.

#7902 SSB4 Final Smash IDEA just for fun

Posted by WeeYou on 16 June 2011 - 06:54 PM in Wii U Games and Software

LUIGI

Final Smash 1: Negative Space

Same as Brawl

Final Smash 2: Poltergust 3000

Luigi pulls out his trusty ghost-vacuum and begins to suck in all players within a moderate range. While inside the vacuum, each victim takes 10% damage per second, and then gets shot out in the direction the player aims toward.

Final Smash 3: Snack Basket (Bowser's Inside Story)

Luigi pulls out a picnic basket and throws it into the air while opening his mouth and awaiting the rain of several snack foods. The screen focuses on Luigi, who the player must navigate to catch all of the food. If a good amount of food is caught, a newly plump Luigi leaps to the top of the screen and slams himself back down, sending out a shockwave that has the potential to instantly K.O. his victims.

Finally getting contributions from users other than myself. I loved both of your new Luigi smashes. They draw inspiration from different games and seem like really cool ideas!

OMG!
That sounds like a heck of a lot of FUN!!! :D

It was fun to come up with! I especially liked the 2nd one. I'm going to dinner but I'll be back with more I hope.

Samus

Final Smash 1: The old smash with the OP beam. It already looked awesome in the last game, imagine that smash in full HD!

Final Smash 2:
Samus goes into the morph ball and flippers appear at the bottom left and right of the screen. The stage is temporarily turned into Metroid Pinball and anybody who gets touched by the morphball gets sent flying.

Final Smash 3:
Samus goes into her gunship and fires an all out assault. Uses a similar gameplay mechanics and view as snake's final smash from brawl.

OR

Final Smash 4: All of the other hunters from metroid prime hunters series appear on the stage as level 6 or 7 CPUs for 30 seconds. They only go after enemy units, leaving Samus unharmed. They can take damage like normal players and can possibly be knocked off screen. (although this is pretty ambitious because they would have to create movesets and character models).

KIRBY (my favorite character)

Final Smash 1: Bringing back the cooking pot final smash from brawl. This time with more interesting drops that come out of the pot.

Final Smash 2: Kirby sucks up any character in front of him. They take damage in his mouth until together they either struggle their way out OR Kirby can swallow all the characters outright. By swallowing, he gains multiple powers that combine and interact to form new bigger and better combo-powers. Perhaps Kirby could even be bigger for a short time after swallowing.

Final Smash 3: Multiple kirbys of all different colors and costumes come down from the sky on warp stars for 5 to 10 seconds. 10% of the time a giant kirby comes down the center of the screen on a giant warp star.

There you have it. Hope you like it.

Nice ideas dude!!! I totally agree!!!! :D

Thanks! I'm trying to think of what character to make a set for next, but I want to make sure it's a character I know well.

Mario (had to try and tackle this one eventually)

Final Smash 1:
Bringing back the old smash but with a wider area of effect, because let's be honest, it was damn near impossible to consistently hit people with the original.

Final Smash 2: Mario gets a mega mushroom while all enemies get mini mushrooms. The mushrooms' effects would last 20% longer than the normal amount of time.

Final Smash 3: Every enemy close to mario gets transported into a fast scrolling old school mario level. They either keep up with the scrolling screen or get KO'd. There would be several different fast scrolling levels to kept things unpredictable/harder for opponents.

Bowser

Final Smash 1:
Giga-Bowser is back of course. One of the best smashes from brawl IMO.

Final Smash 2:
Bowser raises his claw creating lava plumes and fire balls that streak across the screen causing large damage. Avoidable, but hard hitting.

Final Smash 3: Bowser swallows all nearby opponents are sucked into Bowser stomach and take massive but gradual damage from stomach acid (shown in a cutscene of sorts). The damage done is determined by how close the player was to Bowser when the smash was activated. The smash end by bowser belching out all players in a fireball, the direction of which the player can adjust for maximum KOs. (Inspired by Bowser's Inside Story BTW)

am I the only one here who doesn't like final smashes?

My roommate hates them. And the worst part is that all of his friends he plays with back home insist on having final smashes on every round.

There could be 4 Final Smashes, one for each Special Move, for example.
Ganondorf
Neutral: Dark Wave (The move he uses in OoT, like Mario's Final Smash.)
Side: Ganon Charge (The Final Smash is Brawl.)
Up: ??? (couldn't think of one.)
Down: Transform (Ganondorf turns into the Ganon from OoT.

That's actually a really cool idea. That way you could activate 1 of 4 possible final smashes bases on the direction you choose.

Wario

Final Smash 1:
Wario man is back from Brawl. This time with even more unexpected minor changes to wario's moveset.

Final Smash 2:
Atomic fart. Way bigger then even the most charged up wario waft, the atomic fart is a massive methane mushroom cloud that sends enemies flying. Any enemy that isn't KO'd by the blast is dazed for 5 seconds from the awful stench.

Final Smash 3: Backed-up Wario. Wario grows into a giagantic ball and can roll around the stage. Wario can be turned slowly and the ball takes a while to accelerate, but anybody it touches gets launched. Wario lets out tiny farts and slowly shrinks back to normal size. The smaller he gets from expelling gas, the faster he moves, but the less damage he does on contact.

VERY NICE! I can tell you put some thought into this one! (:P)

I like the balance you included in each move so neither would be TOO overwhelming.

I think it's important for final smashes to either:
A. Be avoidable in some fashion
OR
B. Require some amount of skill or planning to be used effectively

In Brawl, they did a pretty good job of those two things.
