i am surprised this decline has taken this long. Black Ops 2 would have been my prediction when that was released.

#299270 How Can Nintendo Fix Third Party Support?

Posted by MarvelofMan on 26 September 2014 - 08:50 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Only issue there is that by then third parties would be looking forward to the next system. The Wii U has been out for almost two years now. Let's assume we're seeing a five year lifespan before things wind down for a new console the year after. Games can easily take a year to make. If people buy the system, say... one year from now, we're looking at a low ONE year of full exposure on a system that is soon to be replaced.

Anyone developing for the system right now is who you'll be seeing developing for the system in its final days. Nobody is going to "jump in" at this point. That's why Nintendo's floundering about in the Wii U's early days was such a poor move. And really, the mistakes were made before even then with the Wii's last year. You know, the year basically nobody developed on the system. If Nintendo had given developers even an early Wii U devkit at this time, things would be massively different right now. But instead there was an awkward lull where nothing really happened... or was happening. It was just an empty time for Nintendo's home console front.

In essence with the Wii U having a shorter life span than the competition could lead them to Nintendo having a significant jump ahead of the competition IF they acted on the issues you mentioned. The development time is a key factor that makes the outlook somewhat bleak, it's a shame backs have been turned away from the Wii u at this stage in the game.

There was a period of time up until the launch of the Xbox One & PS4 where it felt the Wii U had stopped in it's tracks. As a gamer I am happy that Nintendo are supporting the Wii U with the momentum we are now witnessing.

#299185 (Shockers) Watch Dogs DLC not coming to Wii U

Posted by MarvelofMan on 25 September 2014 - 08:41 AM in Wii U Games and Software

So you're only getting one version, and you decide to get this one? Why? 99% chance it will be inferior. Though your purchase will increase sale numbers by like 50%, it won't help, because most people are smart enough to stay away from this crap, so the sales are going to be bad, and Ubisoft will complain. In other words, there's no point in supporting it. Ubisoft is already done with us, all you're doing now is giving them money they don't deserve.

I'm all fo supporting Wii u as much as possible, and I personally wouldn't buy this game at all, but since you're planning to, it just makes no sense to get the Wii U version.

In fact you're more likely to do good for Wii U if you don't buy this game. If it could sell pretty much zero copies worldwide, we have a better chance of making it clear we won't buy crap than if it even half decently. Don't get me wrong, it's not very likely, we all know no matter what, it's always "our fault" but maybe maybe some news outlets will feel more inclined to report the real reason or something since more of a statement is made that way.

That would be awesome if gamers did boycott the Wii U version.

#299184 How Can Nintendo Fix Third Party Support?

As we delve deeper into this new generation I can see Xbox and PS4 gamers buying Wii Us as a secondary console due to the exclusives. It's already the most cost effective option and down the live even more so.

If that is the case maybe third party developers will contemplate some possibilities.

Yeah but the Wii was something NO ONE saw coming i would say not even Nintendo. its a once in a lifetime type of situation. They go aginst the grain by not even releasing a HD system like competitors and score big. That will never happen again it was a fluke.

Could have gone the other way in hindsight, the Wii spread like Wildfire. I think it's to early to predict the Wii Us future with third parties especially as it appears that the industry may experience another crash. The likelihood is not that high granted, I dont think anyone saw or predicted the influx of interest the Wii U is gathering at the moment.

But here is the problem. Most gamers will not pay for a worse overall game. It is not about the install base. Gamers know they will get a better product for playstation and xbox console for third party game than Nintendo. The gamepad just is not going to add that much more appeal for someone to purchase the game for Wii U. 1080p vs 720p (or in some cases not even native), 60FPS vs 30FPS(in some cases no even stable), DLC vs no DLC. its just a no brainer 3rd party games are not going to sell well on Nintendo consoles.

True they won't yet those figures would apply to gamers that own a PS4 or Xbox as an additional system, given the individual the option to buy the higher gloss version. Then again is it not all about the install base? Look at the Wii, personally I found the graphical differences to be much vast and there was a lot more support for it.

Not intending to debate, i just want to see this from another angle. Third party games may generally not sell well, I dont see how waiting for the next system would really improve Nintendos situation which ive heard a few times. By what I am witnessing Nintendo is making their own shifts forward and eventually third parties will get the scent of money that much clearer on the Wii U.

A stronger showing is going towards the maxed out product that has all the specs yes and perhaps this could be why the industry is in a state. High production, high risk and no interest in developing on the Wii U.

Are companies forgetting that Wii U has sold more units than Xbox One and has maintained second place behind PS4? Logic suggests there is greater loss on Microsofts side of the equation with a more limited audience, maybe I am being naive here. In all honesty I see Nintendos third party issues improving next year, by how much is another matter.

What's kept Wii U relevant is the consumers support and with new upcoming games were witnessing positive responses. You just cant compare the Wii U that launched in 2012 to the surge of interest in 2014 or paint it with the same brush. There have been a fair few million gamers joining the ranks and not all from Nintendo in the last gen.

As a third party if you fear sales issues in regards to the systems hardware then you just focus on it's innovative strengths. Find ways to enhance the game using the gamepad that isnt made possible on the rival platforms. Graphics these days are incredible yet the leap in generations isnt that great. Anything that's published with extreme gloss could mean the gameplay is limited, too much focus on the shine than the substance.

Third parties need to relook at the Wii U again 100%. Nothing can produce a great output with half assed or no input. Lets just say it how it is.... Xbox One and PS4 are easy street. Supporting the Wii requires a bit more effort and would be a challenge tha they're to lazy to take...unless the risk is during a launch and the spotlight is on you. A launch with competing hardware lurking in the shadows later the following year.

#299107 (Shockers) Watch Dogs DLC not coming to Wii U

Posted by MarvelofMan on 24 September 2014 - 01:13 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Well time to sell all my Ubi titles, and forget about buying any of them on any platform from now on. Jeezus.

I have no desire to buy Ubisoft games either, they're behaving like complete morons and are being glutton for punishment with negative PR. What they failed to realise with Zombi U is that two consoles lingered in the shadows that casted the public to contemplate the idea of investing in WII U. Once all systems were out and the dust settled; the WII U is looking to be the most entertaining and cost effective option.

Ubisoft put faith in the launch with over ths top expectations and seemingly never got over it. Watch Dogs proves how short sighted the company is acting and how their image to Nintendo's audience is far from a priority.

N4G comment section literally tears at my love of video gaming. People getting so high on their horses, fickle about minor details and doing anything but enjoying the hobby.

Perhaps Mario is such a completionist that failing to achieve each goal with the 3 minutes triggers sudden death syndrome. As Peach completes Marios life he is doomed to tempt death each level in an effort to rescue her for momentary peace within a viscous cycle of reoccuring events.

I haven't had a whole lot of free time in the past few days due to my second year of college just starting up and working to get a club going. I was planning on contacting him when I could, but I really want to thank you for stepping in and getting in touch with him before I could.

You're very welcome, glad I was of some help. Life gets hectic at times and we have responsibilities that demand our attention, but you know better than me that you have plenty members here who are ready to support when needed.

This is why I love this place :)

What are you planning on doing?

I've spoken with the owner directly and he has already implemented a few changes to improve the spam situation. Another change may be put into place but will leave that for the right person to confirm.

The owner was very prompt in responding to the issues and is aware there are a couple topics to address. Onwards and upwards.

We will get this sorted and agree on a system members are happy with. People are so down to Earth here that I doubt were going to struggle in that department.
