#277103 An idea just crossed my mind

Posted by Arkhandar on 13 March 2014 - 03:39 PM in Wii U Hardware

How about everyone that has a Wii U right now buy another 3? That way we'd have 23 million Wii U's sold.

Nintendo is saved. Thanks everyone.

Like Toilet_Snaker said, it's not up to us to sell the system, it's up to Nintendo to do it and they're failing miserably.

#272877 Nintendo Films

Posted by Arkhandar on 16 February 2014 - 02:54 PM in Wii U Hardware

I'm skeptical about movies, but animated series would work pretty well (most of them have worked in the past). As for which franchise to get these animated series, well, how about every single one that's notable? Huge missed opportunity there, Nintendo.

Pokémon is the only one that's been doing it right all these years and look at it now. An animated series, toys and a trading card game = 11 games million sold (X,Y)... profit.

As I said in another thread, acquiring Bandain Namco (or at least have a strong partnership) would be a huge door for a true third-pillar of entertainment for Nintendo (actually fourth since the QOL stuff is on the way).

After a strong catalog of TV content, rename the Bandai Channel to Nintendo Channel, broadcast it worldwide and boom, you're an entertainment giant.

#271304 Mergers and Acquisitions

Posted by Arkhandar on 09 February 2014 - 10:47 AM in Wii U Hardware

Bandai Namco would be the acquisition that would make the most sense. It would be a open huge door for Nintendo in terms of launching their IPs into the Animation, Toys and Amusement markets.

Instead of licensing their characters to other companies, they would have full control of all of their content.

Not to mention, they would have control of dozens of IPs from Bandai Namco, all on Nintendo's consoles. The Souls series would be an excellent complement to Nintendo's "hardcore" offerings, for example.

Sure, it would be expensive as hell (2.25 billion dollars to own 51% of the company), but Nintendo would profit a lot from it, and would further enrich Nintendo's content offerings and IP value.

Bandai Namco's IPs:

  • Ace Combat
  • Digimon
  • Dragon Ball
  • InuYasha
  • Klonoa
  • God Eater
  • Mobile Suit Gundam
  • Naruto
  • Ni no Kuni
  • One Piece
  • Pac-Man
  • Power Rangers
  • Ridge Racer
  • RollerCoaster Tycoon
  • Saint Seiya
  • Solatorobo
  • Souls (Demon Souls, Dark Souls)
  • Soulcalibur
  • Tales of
  • Tamagotchi
  • Tank! Tank! Tank!
  • Tekken

  • #271301 Truth to Nintendo Fusion?

Posted by Arkhandar on 09 February 2014 - 10:24 AM in Wii U Hardware

One, you're right they are different architecture. Which is why Iwata said they are doing this NEXT Gen. Two, Iwata did state they are keeping the same architecture as the Wii U (IBM). Three, it appears he is talking more on the same OS, and keeping the same OS as the Wii U. Finally, just because the CPU is different doesn't mean apps and games can't work on the same platform. Look at Windows 8. Yes, some apps like Firefox and Chrome can not work on both ARM and x87, but a lot of apps are designed to work on both processors. Just like will happen with Nintendo.

Now, whether or not the Wii U will play the newer games is speculation on my part. It's how I read what Iwata is saying. But he is vague and confusing, like usual when he isn't talking directly to us the consumer. So we'll see.

Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Phone 8 are completely different OS's with the same face. There's a lot more developement work to do cross-platform with those.

Iwata's comments seem to indicate that Nintendo's next gen systems will have the same CPU/GPU (APU probably) architecture, most likely ARM to keep costs down, especially on the handheld side.

How they're going to fully absorb the Wii U architecture into that is a mistery to me. Emulation maybe?

#269598 Nintendo Plans to Enrich Gamepad's Value

I do hope they get an addon to let you use your physical DS games.

    Someone's in for a disappointment.

#265720 I think Wii U did the impossible!

Posted by Arkhandar on 09 January 2014 - 02:48 PM in Wii U Hardware

While I do agree about brand confusion; (a problem that Nintendo hopes to solve by having the Wii sold as the mini instead of the original Wii U looking model) I don't think Apple has the same problem as Nintendo.  Everyone knows the diffrences between an iPod, iPad, or iPhone unless you are living under a rock the last 4 years or so; not so with the Wii U and Wii.  I still find people picking up Wii U software to play on their Wii and asking where they can buy the Gampad for their Wii.  It's a huge mistake for Nintendo in making the console look so similar to the original and the fact that Wii U doesn't sound like a succesor to the Wii as much as Wii II or Wii 2 would have been!!! It's a huge blunder on Iwata's part and I blame him Reggie and Miyamoto for not having the insight to do so.  In addition, they should market the Wii U's strength against their competitors through demo videos like: true backward compatibility, totally free multi-player online, upconversion of old Wii games, their multimedia capablities (Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, TVii, and Amazon Prime) and their AAA Nintendo franchises which will only be found on the Wii U.

When I mentioned Apple I was talking about the differences between each product in the iPod, iPad and iPhone series. But other then that, I completly agree with you on the lack of marketing.

    #265483 China - Wii U success secured?

Posted by Arkhandar on 08 January 2014 - 11:10 AM in Wii U Hardware

Don't forget that China's video game industry is dominated by PC and Smartphone/Tablets, and that a products life cycle there is much, much shorter.

It's not going to be a easy ride for either the Wii U or 3DS, but nevertheless, there's a huge sales potential in that market.

#265482 I think Wii U did the impossible!

Posted by Arkhandar on 08 January 2014 - 11:08 AM in Wii U Hardware

Not only is Nintendo doing bad by itself, it risks being overlooked by MS and Sony`s success.

I think 2014 has the potential to be what 2013 was meant to be. The question "is", will Nintendo just trust on it`s release schedule and do nothing about VC and the so eagerly waited acount system? What will it do to end the brand confusion once and for all?

I hope not. But either way,, brand confusion is definitely not the problem since it has been "plaguing" Apple's products (iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc.) for years and that surely hasn't affected sales.

#265424 I think Wii U did the impossible!

Posted by Arkhandar on 08 January 2014 - 06:48 AM in Wii U Hardware

I am speaking about worldwide numbers for December: http://www.vgchartz....13&console=WiiU

    In 2012 Wii U did: 1,775,117

In 2013 Wii U did: 1M+ (vgchartz info lacks the final week of december).

    It`s about a 700k fall.

If you look at Xbox 360 1st december and 2nd december, it goes from 824k to 2M.
    PS3 numbers are: 857k to 2.5M

Not to metion that the astonishing success of other next generation systems really puts a heavy red card on Nintendo's performance.

1 million consoles sold in december is nothing to be proud of, really.

#265300 I think Wii U did the impossible!

Posted by Arkhandar on 07 January 2014 - 05:22 PM in Wii U Hardware

Well, according to VGChartz it sold 941,832 units in December (28), so we have that.

The 3DS did 3.39 million btw.

    #264822 USB3 is pointless

Posted by Arkhandar on 05 January 2014 - 06:46 AM in Wii U Hardware

How about USB 3.1? A lot better than SATA 3 or eSATA.

10 Gb/s seems more than ideal with 7.2 Gb/s of real world performance.

    #264776 USB3 is pointless

A SATA III connector is way more important imo.

#264709 New Nintendo TVii European Info

Posted by Arkhandar on 04 January 2014 - 09:34 AM in Wii U Hardware

    Never coming here.

I'm starting to lose hope too, especially considering the terrible sales the Wii U's been having in Europe.

#264706 Week 51 (Dec 16-22) Media Create Sales Wii U Up Again

Posted by Arkhandar on 04 January 2014 - 09:26 AM in Wii U Hardware

Console sales next Christmas will be interesting this gen, especially when Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2 and others will be out on Wii U along with any e3 teases/gameplay.

Bayonetta 2 will probably flop, so I don't think it will have much of an impact during the next holiday season.

#264705 New Nintendo TVii European Info

Posted by Arkhandar on 04 January 2014 - 09:18 AM in Wii U Hardware

The European Nintendo TVii website has been updated and now reads as follows:

Nintendo TVii enables you to find, watch, and engage with TV shows and movies in entirely new ways.
Using the Wii U GamePad, you can browse and search for programming from sources you subscribe to, including cable and satellite channels and video-on-demand services.
We would like to apologise that we were unable to bring the Nintendo TVii service to Europe in 2013 as originally planned.
Please continue to keep an eye out for further announcements regarding this service in the near future.

#263886 How much do you think the Wii U will sell the whole month of Dec.

Posted by Arkhandar on 29 December 2013 - 06:53 AM in Wii U Hardware

The numbers are good, but far from a success. The console continues to sell bellow expectations and competition, and Europe continues to be the disastrous Sony Land for Nintendo.

No reason to be excited really. It's only pumping out slightly better Dreamcast numbers here.

    #263676 Wii U Save Data Non-transferable, Why?

Posted by Arkhandar on 27 December 2013 - 02:24 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Virtual Console games were hacked on Wii. They were just like any Wii Channel was, in .wad format.

    #263674 Error code 102-2931

Posted by Arkhandar on 27 December 2013 - 02:04 PM in Wii U Hardware

So the people who got a WiiU/3DS/2DS for xmas won't be able to use them, nice one Nintendo, looks like the last straw to me.

One thing getting a 3DS & WiiU has taught me is never to buy another console at launch every again, your loss Nintendo, your loss

Yes, they will and did. Only the eShop is offline.

    #263616 Error code 102-2931

Posted by Arkhandar on 27 December 2013 - 07:54 AM in Wii U Hardware

The eShop is online now, but the servers are still iffy according to the Nintendo Network Status website.

Online play, Miiverse, Nintendo TVii and Wii U Chat  are at full force though.

#263571 Wii U Gamepad High Capacity Battery Now Available in US

Posted by Arkhandar on 26 December 2013 - 05:56 PM in Wii U Hardware

Is there a reason why they didn't just use this in the first place?

    Manufacturing costs.

#263570 Game pad works, but game not displayed on TV

Posted by Arkhandar on 26 December 2013 - 05:50 PM in Wii U Hardware

Did it prompt you to update the game or the system? Was your Wii U on 4.0.0 or higher?

#263569 Wii U controller not working

Posted by Arkhandar on 26 December 2013 - 05:47 PM in Wii U Hardware

Like Nollog said, it does that to calibrate the gyroscope, it's perfectly normal.

However, if you have a sensor bar, you can activate it in the Wii Sports Club settings menu to avoid so many calibrations in Tennis.

Additionally, you can re-center the racket or club by: in Tennis, centering the Wii Remote to the TV and press down on the D-Pad; and in Golf, centering the Wii Remote to the GamePad and press B.

    Hope it helps :)
