#78335 For those of you who don't check your emails.

I think they've been under attack all but constantly for the past month.

It seems that they're currently doing better on their new sever. Anyways, it may still be a good idea to think this over.

Of course, that's a given. I'm just saying that if the MLP forums can still be taken down even with enough security measures...

I know, I acknowledge the fact that with a large enough botnet you could theoretically take down whatever site you so choose. I just want to give some ideas of preventing DDOS attacks, so that if the botnet is small enough, we won't see this problem again -- hopefully.

In the end, a sheer amount of anonymous users can still take down a site with iptables. They've done it before with government run sites, so MLP should be just as easy for them with less possibilities of legal action.

In the end the point is that it's always smart to take precautions.

P.S. I doubt the botnet that attacked MLP forms is the size of the botnet that was needed to take down a government site.

Here I found some stuff for you guys to look over. Maybe it will help.

Of course, Most options will hinge on how far you are willing to go. So I suggest taking some time to think about if it's worth it, and if the attackers are likely to strike again.

But in the end it always comes back, nothing is lost.

And if their server doesn't have proper DDOS protection yet, then it's best that they find a new one.

And while I know that it's technically impossible to be 100% protected from DDOS attacks. There are plenty of measures that can be taken to prevent them from happening. A popular method is iptables.

I guess it's just me, but I still find a DDOS to be the easy way out. It doesn't cause any real damage to small websites like the mlp forums, other then temporarily delay postings.

What, no Talkbox? Surely you jest.

At this point and time, I tend to look down on DDOSers. Not because it's a bad thing to do, but because it's old, and quickly becoming obsolete. In fact a DDOS won't really do any significant damage to small sites like this; they will always come back up, same as it was.

There are much better methods to crack a website then a DDOS. SQLi, XSS, DNS, and RFI. All of those are better then a DDOS, yet they insist on using their simple skiddy software.

I've been in a very baroquecore mood lately.

#77729 Your Favorite Video Game Music

Let's see what I can remember off the top of my head.

#73276 What is your favorite game of all time?

Posted by BIOS on 19 April 2012 - 07:56 PM in General Gaming

I honestly don't have a favorite game. So to compromise, I'm going to close my eyes and wander over to my game wall with arms outstretched; whatever I grab shall be my pick.

And the winner is: Beethoven, for the snes... This was a stupid idea!

#71362 Origin of your username

You can always change your Username at anytime if you wish.

I know, but even though I find it silly, I'm still quite content with it.

My love, the Monte Cristo. Ham and Swiss sandwich, sprinkled with powdered sugar, and some dipping jelly on the side.

OMG! I never thought someone would make a thread like this, LOL, anywho my favorite sandwhich is peanut butter toast.

It's great with honey or agave mixed in with the peanut butter.

#70464 Origin of your username

Posted by BIOS on 07 April 2012 - 09:48 PM in The Café

My username comes from the basic BIOS terminal (Basic Input/Output System) that's built into every PC. Looking back on it, I feel kind of stupid for choosing it. But I chose it, and I'm sticking to it.

Currently, my avatar is just a television color calibration screen. There's no real reason as to why I chose it. I guess I just thought it looked cool.

Or at least it will be once it updates.

#66816 Things that annoy you about the internet.

Posted by BIOS on 18 March 2012 - 11:32 AM in The Café

What irritates me that most is sites like Reddit, and how they've killed jokes -- like memes for example --, as well as humor in general. The jokes and memes have been pushed way past the point of being funny. And the whole thing just feels like a game of who has the most karma.

Not to mention, the original content creators have any and all mentions of them erased when their stuff becomes a meme. Thus, at least, removing any satisfaction of owning something popular. Not to mention recognition and site traffic.

#62201 Hello Everyone

Posted by BIOS on 17 February 2012 - 09:45 PM in Introduction Central

I've never been a part of a forum community before; but the idea has always been an interesting one for me. I picked this form to be my first because, I always kept up with the Wii U Blog -- as well as its sister, the Nintendo 3ds Blog; I just thought it would be a good start.

If anyone wants to know anything about me -- favorite music genres, movies, book, hobbies, etc -- just ask. I'd rather tell only if people want to know; I don't want to create a wall of text about me that people could care less about.
