#287060 Question on Wii games

Posted by Grooseland on 29 May 2014 - 08:06 AM in Wii U Hardware

Wii games played on my Wii U look exactly the same as if I were playing them on the original Wii. Of course some are jaggier than others but... well, that's how they look.

I have a question for 3dude and it may sound dumb but c'mon! I'm not an expert in this field:

How can the Wii U "emulate" if you will, Wii games if they are very different consoles ( especially the GPU)?

Thank you

#284244 Demystifying the Wii U's "magic sauce"

Posted by Grooseland on 07 May 2014 - 10:09 AM in Wii U Hardware

Yes, I know the article is from eurogamer... The same idiots who magnify any little imperfect detail on every Wii U game.

I thought a Nintendo representative told them the resolution though... of course they didn't make a "test".

And tire in England is "tyre"?

#275854 Batman Arkham Knight revealed...No WiiU version

Posted by Grooseland on 05 March 2014 - 08:56 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Exclusively to the PS4, XOne, and PC..... not really exclusively lol.. I think that term is used wrong by Rocksteady. Kind of annoyed by that to be honest. It would of been easier to say NO in reply to the person but I digress.

Exactly... kind of like saying "if you have a Wii U, you're screwed"... a simple no was enough. Stupid Rocksteady...

It's a shame if it doesn't come to Wii U... I really liked Arkham City Armored Edition

If Retro said it was a powerhouse... the it's a powerhouse :P

#265992 The Secret Developers: Wii U - the inside story

Posted by Grooseland on 11 January 2014 - 09:36 AM in Wii U Hardware

Many wrong things with this article...

Starting with eurogamer... lol!

No but seriously, ports from xbone/ps4 should be no problem on Wii U as far as I know. It's more of a an economic problem than a hardware one.

#265190 If the Wii U is not powerful...

Posted by Grooseland on 07 January 2014 - 09:02 AM in Wii U Hardware

Mass Effect 3 was a very good port though. Yes, it was idiotic for EA to release the trilogy and to exclude some DLC. Even Nintedo Power claimed that it run at 1080p.

Days later Straight Right (the developer in charge of the port) clarified that it ran native 720p but the Wii U upscaled it beautifully to 1080p.

They also said:

“We’ve really enjoyed working on the Wii U. It’s a powerful, versatile machine and fairly painless to code for. From an architecture standpoint it’s straightforward and really just allows developers to get down to the business of making games.”

Just to remind people, here are the demos almost in their complete form. I have to mention that the bird demo that was shown on the conference pales in comparison to the one on the show floor (video posted) even though it's off screen

Made in 2011, quickly made, early dev kits etc...

@Ryudo

Have you talked to your developer friend?

#263917 Maybe we have not seen NEXT-GEN Nintendo yet?

wow, thanks for your response. I also own Overlord and it has real time shadows on almost everything. The framerate though...  I have to give little kings story a try!

The wii saw... Uh... So onto the wii u.

Aren't you forgetting Climax (Silent Hill) or High Voltage (The Conduit)?

Silent Hill is the best looking third party game on Wii imo. It has better effects than anything I've seen on Gamecube.

3dude:

What number of effects does Silent Hill uses? Does it use the TEV to its fullest?

It would be interesting to ask your friend to elaborate as to why he thinks the Wii U GPU is  better than the Xbone's.

Of course, in words we can all understand :)

#262701 If the Wii U is not powerful...

Posted by Grooseland on 21 December 2013 - 02:58 PM in Wii U Hardware

The wii u is powerful. Not as powerful as the ps4/xb1 but still pretty powerful.

Also tbh those tech demos didn't really impress me graphically haha, takes a lot to impress me nowadays.

But I will be quite impressed if they can get a game looking as good as the tech demo, guess it's just a wait and see thing.

I agree on the first part but believe me when I tell you that on a certain website (which shall remain nameless) people were saying that in no way or form could a Nintendo console could achieve that.

The animation in the bird demo impressed me the most. The Zelda demo the animation and the lighting were impressive.

Also, the bird demo that they showed in the conference pales in comparoson to the one on the show floor.

#262698 If the Wii U is not powerful...

Posted by Grooseland on 21 December 2013 - 02:36 PM in Wii U Hardware

I know this is going to sound weird and maybe a little bit late but it's something that everyone ignores.

If the Wii U is not powerful, then why would Nintendo showed tech demos to (according to Reggie) show off "what the system can do"

When was the last time Nintendo did that? not for the original Wii... it was the Gamecube and we all know that purple lunchbox was powerful and created some of the best graphics even today.

The bird and Zelda demos were gorgeous. People even thought were CGI and their jaw dropped when they learned they were interactive.

Also, they were done by early dev kits.

Nintendo had a reason as to why they needed to show those tech demos... don't you think?

#262696 Shouldnt Watchdogs dynamic city work well with the Wii U's CPU?

Posted by Grooseland on 21 December 2013 - 02:15 PM in Wii U Hardware

It's all about how the developer optimize the game for the Wii U...

Also remember that Watch Dogs is a "last gen" game, really nothing next gen about it. If Ubi can make a decent port, then we'll get above ps360 standards but not the VERY little touches of what is called "next gen" which is insignificant.

"Wii U is pretty much in-between – it’s neither of them, not current-gen, maybe closer to current-gen than next-gen.”

Take this to mean whatever you want.

Yep... so basically they don't give a crap.

#260252 Better graphics on Gamepad screen?

Posted by Grooseland on 10 December 2013 - 08:50 AM in Wii U Hardware

All of my games look better on my TV to be honest. When I switch to the Gamepad it looks almost the same but not better. Perhaps it's my TV that helps?

#258086 Wii U CPU - NEW INFO

Posted by Grooseland on 27 November 2013 - 09:51 PM in Wii U Hardware

At least we finnally know for sure.  It truly is just a Tri core Broadway shrunk and over clocked with more cache.  Basically little more than ten times the power of the Gekko that powered the Gamecube, or six times the power of the Broadway that powered the Wii.  Should be just fine for most games.

What?

And who is this mythical "WIIBOY"? and what happened to him?

It's funny how every AC4 video you get top comments saying that "the next-gen versions look bad because of youtube".

Well, someone's going to be disappointing.

people in denial  I guess... lol!

PS4 build and 360 build comparison. Anyone know how Wii U compares to the PS4 build here?

why does she keeps calling it "next gen"? and isn't this the crappy channel adam sessler is in? so they finally got a free ps4 because he cried like a ittle girl?

#253777 Assassin creed 4 is out on wii u if anybody noticed.

Posted by Grooseland on 30 October 2013 - 08:42 AM in Wii U Games and Software

So far it sounds like a very respectable port.  Its not really outclassing the 360/PS3 build in any significant way, but at least its another solid release for Wii U.  Between Batman Origins, Deus Ex, and Assassins Creed 4, it looks like Wii U is getting respectable versions of all these games this year.  Wii U will only shine with exclusive software.  Hell, even AC4 on PS4 doesnt look that much better than the 360/PS3 build.

eh... I still think they could've done better... It's kind of what happened to the Gamecube.
