#241352 Do you think that the ps360 could run X without any scalebacks at all?

Posted by LaserSWE on 25 August 2013 - 07:05 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Yeah, problably could. But wont.

#239993 Have they even started on Metroid for the Wii U?

Posted by LaserSWE on 18 August 2013 - 05:47 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I have a feeling that Metroid might become the next Nintendo-franchise to fall into the pit of "why arent they making a new one?!"- games.

#239983 Splinter Cell Blacklist is getting really good reviews

Posted by LaserSWE on 18 August 2013 - 05:06 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I really don't see the downside to a lack of offline coop. Everybody has the internet... so it's just the same. You play online with your friends and... it's the same!

Its not the same because i actually have real friends that i hang out with. Im not much for online multiplayer. Multiplayer is about being in the same couch, having a good time!

#239809 Is this going to be the trend for Wii U 3rd Party Games?

Posted by LaserSWE on 17 August 2013 - 09:53 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Already at E3 2012 Nintendos major megaton was a montage of a bunch of PS360-games being confirmed for Wii U (they even used footage from the PS360-versions. Some games never even began development for Wii U, such as Metro and Dirt, they were just showned to clarify the vision).

The "thought-out" sellingpoint for Wii U was obviously Nintendo games in HD + all that Nintendo-only-gamers had missed out on due to the original Wii being a lesser platform in terms of hardware. Publishers went all in putting resources into bringing franchises like Mass Effect, Tekken, Darksiders, Assassins Creed, Call of Duty, Batman, Need for Speed and so on for the Wii U launchwindow - however they didnt sell. They didnt even make profit.

Not even the exclusive ZombiU was able to make profit - and that was still the best selling title from a third-party publisher. That says a lot. Third party had their first taste on how their core-games would fair on the Nintendo market. On Wii the best-selling games were Nintendo + party/fitness games. 1+1=2.

Perhaps they might had tried the Wii U waters for a second time if Nintendo themselves would have been able to bring out interesting, NEW and EXCLUSIVE content to create intrerest in the console. Early on. To create sales. They didnt. So sales instead became, basically, non-existent. Major publishers pulled out. Developers found the platform uninteresting. Ubisoft backed down from developing more exclusive titles for the platform. Both Activision and Ubisoft decided to at least "give it a year" - to see if Nintendo could save it with their Q4 titles.

Already a couple of months after release the platform felt dead. The only life came from Kickstarter-indie-campaigns for eShop titles - to be released in the future - if financed. Not every project became financed though, with promising titles as Buddy & Me, Dizzy and spiritual Eternal Darkness sequel Shadow of the Eternals not getting enough interest from Wii U gamers.

"Its just a window. We are in-between two generations. At E3 we will see a lot of new content being announced"

At E3 Ubisoft announced Just Dance 2014 for Wii U. Square Enix confirmed Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Directors Cut as multiplatform. Lorne Lanning confirmed plans to bring a couple of Oddworld-games to eShop. That was that. Nintendo themselves announced their plans to save the console and the third-party support. A sequel to Super Mario 3D Land was announced instead of a real Super Mario-series sequel and the Retro Studios megaton became Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

Promising titles Mario Kart 8, X, Bayonetta 2 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was as promised - there - but wont actually be HERE, in 2013, but later in 2014 and forward. In a year with ONE third-party title confirmed, that is if Slightly Mad still find it interesting to release Project CARS on the platform. Without a publisher it might also only become a eShop-release.

Activision was one of few publishers publishing plenty of more content going forward. Ultimately also they had to comment the situation though, confirming bad Black Ops II sales - going forward with easy-picky Skylanders, Angry Birds and other shovelware-kids and license-based games. No Destiny or Deadpool for Wii U. Call of Duty: Ghosts however were later confirmed after much dismay (problably after some Nintendo meetings, that is)

The Wii U market didnt want to buy the multiplatform-game that was released basically at the same time as the other versions.

The Wii U market didnt want to buy the multiplatform-game that had been greatly improved.

1+1 = Third-party produces lesser content for the console and in the same time has to take in mind that the game most likely wont sell that much. And those who actually do buy the game will problably be to few to make it worth the cost to produce and maintain a online community.

The situation has developed into this - so this is currently the conditions we have to live with. The only one that really can make a difference here is Nintendo. The fault is entirely theirs. They have to bring forward Wii U better. They have to bring forward content for Wii U better.

What we can do? Buy third-party content. That doesnt mean that one should buy mediocere games like Sniper Elite V2 or The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct "just because of it" - but at least show that we are here. That we are interested. Warner Bros isnt wronging us by not include online in Batman: Arkham Origins. They are actually taking a chance with even developing it for us.

You cant expect a company to put huge resources on something that wont work out. You have to keep in mind that its Wii U we are talking about. The worst selling main-Nintendo console to date. I will buy Arkham Origins on Wii U. I will buy Watch Dogs on Wii U. I will buy Blacklist on Wii U. Because I am interested in those games with or without some content. These KIND OF games. Because I want to show the publishers that - and that I want more - not only Nintendo titles and the occasional Activision shovelware-party game.

I dont know. Looking at the actual list of multiplatform-games that has either more or less.. it still looks pretty good.

In the favour of Wii U:

-  007 Legends

-  Batman: Arkham City

-  Darksiders II

-  Deus Ex: Human Revolution (or atleast, it was supposed to be..)

-  F1 Race Stars

-  Mass Effect 3

-  Need for Speed: Most Wanted

-  Ninja Gaiden 3 (although time-exclusive)

-  Rayman Legends (the Gamepad-levels are exclusive right?)

-  Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

-  Tekken Tag Tournament 2

-  The Amazing Spider-Man

-  Warriors Orochi 3

Games with lesser content

- Batman: Arkham Origins

- Injustice: Gods Among Us

- Sniper Elite V2

- Splinter Cell: Blacklist

- FIFA 13

- Madden NFL 13 (?)

Getting kinda interested in this.. I didnt enjoy Conviction at all but from what i heard this game will be "the perfect mix" between the original-trilogy and the new more "cinematic" way of playing action games.. Offline co-op would have been fun though.. Then again the games seems to have plenty of content on its own..

#239765 Duck tales wii u launch thread

Posted by LaserSWE on 17 August 2013 - 05:40 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Not sure what I think of the game so far.. Its gameplay-design was (of course) made for a system that was unable to perform something of more substance.. that is all so obvious both in the original (however a lot better in the sequel) and in this remake. Still pretty fun though, altough not amazing in any way. I expected WayForward to make more gameplay-changes to make it into a better platformer - which neither the original or the Remastered version is (good platformers that is). Still a fun little game, as a swede the voices doesnt give that much nostalgia though ^-^

#238707 Petition to bring Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain to the Wii U!

Posted by LaserSWE on 12 August 2013 - 12:50 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I think the only way Wii U is gonna get this, and many other major games, is if they (Nintendo) step in themselves and show their interest. Its really weird that they do not work that way since every other hardware producer does this. Making third-party happy is not about giving them a slot of time to release their games before Nintendo brings out their own content.. its having actual conversations and partnerships..

#238477 Super Luigi U for cheap?

Posted by LaserSWE on 11 August 2013 - 07:08 AM in Wii U Games and Software

You wanna hear something shocking? In Dutch stores the game is 45 euros on disc.

Forty. F***ing. Five.

I was excited when the download price was only 20USD and 30 for download, but this is ridiculous. So many people who don't know what this 'game' actually is are gonna be so dissapointed.

Bought it for 24 euro in Amsterdam

#238448 Wonderful 101 is the reason to own a Wii U

Posted by LaserSWE on 11 August 2013 - 03:54 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I think NSMBU, ZombiU, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Lego City Undercover, Pikmin 3, New Super Luigi U... are reasons to own a Wii U. However, perhaps, on that level that they "only" become really interesting while already having the console - and not titles that makes you MUST HAVE THAT CONSOLE. I think titles such as X, Mario Kart 8, SM3DWorld and the next (not the HD-remaster) The Legend of Zelda will sell consoles to a segment of gamers that after that will get their eyes on these smaller titles - including The Wonderful 101.

#238435 Wii u purchases or the rest of the year

Rayman Legends and Deus Ex Human Revolution is already prebooked and paid for, so I guess them.

Heard that TopWare cancelled the Wii U version of Sacrilegium, which made me kinda "sad". Was looking forward to that game a lot.

Edit: Okay, made a list of games I will pick up going forward this year

Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag
Batman: Arkham Origins
Super Mario 3D World
Sonic Lost World
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
Watch_Dogs
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
The Wonderful 101
Rayman Legends

#237858 What can Nintendo do to fix their relations with third-party developers?

Posted by LaserSWE on 08 August 2013 - 11:49 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Except if they DID pay up, other 3rd parties would pitch a fit and demand to ALSO have money thrown at them. Not gonna happen, especially when 3rd parties have shown to be untrustworthy anyway. They're nothing more than mercenaries. Though oddly not particularly good ones.

If they DID pay up for important titles that would result in an actual userbase and, hence, other third party would like to be there because there are money to be made. Its just silly to claim that every other third party publisher suddenly would demand Nintendo to finance their Wii U games at that point. Again, this is not something new or unheard off... all other console-producers have taken this approach with excellent results. Meanwhile Nintendo does what with third party? Meanwhile Wii U sells how much? They gotta see that they have to spend some to gain some at this point.

#237779 IGN: Nintendo should look to new hardware, If Wii U doesn't pick up

Posted by LaserSWE on 08 August 2013 - 06:52 AM in Wii U Games and Software

My problem with IGN and their Nintendo coverage is that Keza will write a mindless article like this one which is entirely short sighted.  Then you can hop on over to their site today and see a video in which Rich and Greg discuss why the Wii U matters.  One editor goes off on a doom and gloom tangent while two others applaud the game lineup for the rest of the year and into 2014.  I really wonder what kind of tool bag is running the show over at IGN.

You would prefer if they were all negative / all positive?

I think one must be able to see the difference between the platforms current state on the market (with third-party jumping ship, sales being basically non-existent and Nintendo themselves that doesnt seem to understand the situation.. As when they are doing some teasing that ultimately ends up with a "Luigi in Smash Bros!! Yes!! Now please buy our console!" announcements..) and the games themself.. They are certain to be great fun.. IGN and others can and should definetely put some light on that - as they also can AND SHOULD put a light on the current commercial status of the platform itself.

#237755 IGN: Nintendo should look to new hardware, If Wii U doesn't pick up

Posted by LaserSWE on 08 August 2013 - 01:43 AM in Wii U Games and Software

The trustfund would be completey throwned away if they did so..  Unfortunately I think they have to ride it out and make amends with their next-console instead (as they did with Wii after Gamecube). They need to pick up speed so that they can stand against the "true" new consoles.

#237752 Would you had done anything different with releasing the WiiU?

Posted by LaserSWE on 08 August 2013 - 01:02 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I would have looked at what reasonable time the games would be completed so that important games would be avaliable at launch (Nintendo Land and NSMBU is no titles to launch a new console with) and that there would be a continued flow of exclusive and/or NEW content. Not late past-gen ports with less content then past-gen versions. Would also launch it with a Pro Controller to keep costs lower, and the Gamepad could be either with the Deluxe bundle and/or as a alternative controller. The GamePad isnt really the same "revolution" as the Wiimote so a demand for Pro Controller in all games would work as well and then developers could utilize GamePad features as they do now... map, inventory and honking... heh.

What more? That the Pro Controller could work as a Classic Controller so that one could play supported Wii-games as well as Wii Virtual Console-titles "straight from the box". A shared account for all Nintendo digital-downloads (Wii, Wii U, 3DS).

The flashmemory could be as it is however a HDD with around 250-500 GB so that developers could utilize it for installing games and also of course having the freedom to purshase eShop content without thinking of memoryspace or external memory storages.

I would see to it that exclusive titles would stay exclusive (Razors Edge, Rayman Legends, Human Revolution Directors Cut..) If third-party wouldnt want to make a Wii U-version of multiplat game it would be worth it to finance its existence so that the console would at least sell so that third-party later on would feel that the console had a good user-base to make versions on their own behalf.

I would let someone else do the marketing campaigns since Nintendos own commercials are like "How to" FAQs that are way to detailed and describing. Utterly grey.

This is how i think Wii U would have be a more interesting console at launch in a sales perspective.

#237748 What can Nintendo do to fix their relations with third-party developers?

Posted by LaserSWE on 08 August 2013 - 12:40 AM in Wii U Games and Software

They gotta pay up. They have a very un-international way of thinking regarding partnerships, but I dont think that will ever change because this is the way the company have always been. Looking at the Nintendo consoles that havent been commercially succesful (N64, Gamecube and Wii U), Nintendo have gotten third-party support by basically making games with them as if they were outsourcing projects. Instead of paying for exclusives, time-exclusives or even just having multiplat-games on their platform, such as both Microsoft and Sony have done, they make collobration projects such as Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Lego City Undercover and Ridge Racer 64 - to name some)..

What I would have done is to keep it more simple. I would have listened to the market - not only in terms of sales - but regarding what the fuzz is about. Are there some loose rumours about a Wii U version of Grand Theft Auto V? Hey, lets pay it up. Ubisoft being dissapointed with ZombiU sales and are thinking of making Rayman Legends multiplatform? Hey, lets pay it up. You get the idea?

This have worked for both Sony and Microsoft in the past with establishing both themselves and their platforms.. Nintendo have to stop working as a game-publisher and instead as a hardware-producer and seller.

With the current situation at hand however I think that a idea would be to give indie-devs a pleasing way to distrubite their games as retail. I know Telltale took their first retail-steps with the Wii and It wouldnt be impossible for Nintendo set up shop for indie-devs to print their games on a disk and widen the shelves that way.

#237747 Wii U version of Splinter Cell Blacklist will lack offline co-operative play

Posted by LaserSWE on 08 August 2013 - 12:22 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Man... it´s getting really annoying with the third party "support"... No, Ubisoft.. I wouldnt care less about the Wii U version hitting the shelves the same day as other versions. What I do care about however is if the game is complete or not..

Not that i think that the Wii U version will sell anyway, the install base is just too low so its doomed either way.. But at least they could care for those who actually do spend their money on their product while its out there.

#237746 Pikmin 3, Does it do anything superior to ps360?

Posted by LaserSWE on 08 August 2013 - 12:18 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Its beauty is pretty much in the colours.. Textures look almost Perfect Dark Zero. Which I guess are to be expected since its 1) a game that began development on Wii 2) One of Nintendos very first HD-games 3) On a platform that is similar to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 hardware.

I think the most beautiful Wii U game as of yet is Need for Speed: Most Wanted U. When it look its best it looks like Uncharted 2 on wheels.

#207921 Elder Scrolls on Wii U?

Posted by LaserSWE on 17 May 2013 - 03:22 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Watch Dogs was based around the PC, which the Wii U and PS4 versions will be most similar to. Crysis 3 may be a current gen game, but it is using the engine that they want to use for next-gen systems. And if they can scale Unreal 4 and Frostbite 3 to a smartphone, then they can easily scale it to Wii U. Frostbite 3's first game is on PS360: would that not make ot a next-gen engine then?

I think you are a bit confused here. A engine made for making games is not the same thing as the actual game. A developer cant make a great looking and demanding game designed for the Playstation 4 and just because the engine is compatible on a lesser platform just make it work on a smartphone or Wii U. The power of the next-gen Sony and Microsoft platforms isnt in the engines, its in the hardware.

Watch_Dogs is also based on the Anvil Engine which was developed for the PS360-platforms. That a PC-is "main" doesnt mean anything in the context.

Wii U is Nintendos eight gen platform, but like it or not, in terms of performance its a seventh gen console.

You wont be seeing any dedicated PS4/XB3-games on the Wii U. It will never happen. We might get versions of games.. like the Tomb Raider-games on the Wii. But they wont be the same. They will be lesser. A publisher like Bethseda is more likely to port some past-gen over to the Wii U then actually design a new game around it.

#207905 Elder Scrolls on Wii U?

Posted by LaserSWE on 17 May 2013 - 12:44 AM in Wii U Games and Software

The only next gen engine that isn't being brought to Wii U is Frostbite 3, and that's more due to EA having a horrible relationship with Nintendo. Epic isn't bringing Unreal 4, but they said that anyone can. The engine that Watch Dogs is using was going to be used in the future, Crysis 3 was ready to be released and running beautifully according to Crytek and fully supports it according to Precursor Games. Kojima never said anything about the Fox Engine on Wii U, so that may not come, but Kojima is on good terms with Nintendo.

Yes, but you mentioning past-gen games like Crysis 3 and Watch_Dogs as examples is quite self explanatory though, right?

That is the kind of games that Wii U is/could be getting. These games were not designed for the hardware of the Playstation 4 (for an example), it was based around the hardware of Xbox 360. That a engine is scalable doesnt mean that they can just lower a bar and suddenly it would work on Wii U.

#207692 Elder Scrolls on Wii U?

Posted by LaserSWE on 16 May 2013 - 08:41 AM in Wii U Games and Software

You know that it isn't capable how? The Wii U will be able to run all of the same engines as the other systems, just slightly scaled down. It won't be too different. It's just more complicated than the PS4, and Bethesda doesn't care if it's complicated or not: the PS3 is proof of this.

The next-gen engines and games made for PS4/PC and Xbox 3 will be as likely to work on Wii U as Twilight Princess would have worked on Nintendo 64.

#207639 Elder Scrolls on Wii U?

Posted by LaserSWE on 16 May 2013 - 05:23 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Bethesda has never said anything bad about it; just that they didn't feel that the install base was good enough. Give that a few months from now, and that will all change. All Bethesda wants is capable hardware: otherwise Morrowind would have released on the PS2.

Exactly, capable hardware. Bethesda is one of them publishers that has its roots and base with PC-development. And Wii U isnt a capable hardware in comparison with PC, Playstation 4 and the next Xbox. Especially if we are talking about the Bethesda Game Studios that is in charge of Elder Scrolls and Fallout, the next titles in those series wont be based around the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii U engines.

The only two games that Bethesda has ever produced for Nintendo-platforms is Star Trek: Conquest (A PS2-port) for the Wii and Ducati Moto for the Nintendo DS. They simply, as Take Two, is not that interested in the Nintendo userbase.

#207630 Elder Scrolls on Wii U?

Posted by LaserSWE on 16 May 2013 - 04:33 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Because no Nintendo system was capable of what they want: the Gamecube didn't have programmable shaders, which is the reason why the Xbox conversion of Morrowind was easy, and the Wii had no chance at running what they wanted. The Wii U is very capable, custom hardware and all. If Bethesda wanted hardware that was easy to develop for, they wouldn't bother with the PS3.

Well, this might have been true if Nintendo had released Wii U back in 2006. Is Wii U the platform that Bethesda wants in the year of 2013 (and 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017...) I wouldnt bet on it. I would be glad if they did though.
