#182480 Anyone recommend a good bedroom gaming TV?

Posted by DragonChi on 13 March 2013 - 09:01 PM in General Gaming

I have a Series 8 42" LED LCD TV from Samsung. It has treated me very well. I always buy from Samsung for TV's or Monitors.

#181371 Gaming PC question

Posted by DragonChi on 10 March 2013 - 03:05 PM in General Gaming

I would hold off until you get a better PC. its now standard for gaming rigs to have a a quad core CPU and 8 gigs of DDR3 ram to run most games decently. I also agree that you should go with Nvidia. They have much better drivers which is really important. I don't know what your budget is, but I would say you should get something between a GTX660Ti (which is pre-overclocked) and  GTX 680. Those are more than sufficient. The higher cards, like the 690 and the new Titan are $1,000. They are worth the money.....but unless you have that much cash to burn, you dont need it. The other cards I mentioned will run you between $400-$600.

Ram is super cheap now and a 3rd gen quad core cpu is about $300-$400. So take from that what you will. It also helps if you have a decent motherboard to for compatibility sakes and performance. They are not AS important but still needs to be considered for a proper rig. I would also suggest a Power Supply with 1000w. Corsair is the best make for that. For Ram, look for Patriot or Mushkin. Hope all this helps.

I can't wait to see how large and in-depth the stages are. I want lots of them too.

Don't worry man. It's all good. Just giving you a head's up. No worries.

#178700 Who else is concerned for Wii U?

Posted by DragonChi on 03 March 2013 - 01:53 PM in General Gaming

I have no reason to be worried about the Wii U. What we are experiencing right now is the calm before the storm. There are major AAA titles coming this year that will spike sales like mad. Nintendo and/or Wii U is in no danger whatsoever.

I really wish I could get into D&D. But I had to stop playing it. Mostly because I have such terrible short term memory that I can never remember what I am supposed to roll for whatever the case may be, and that just annoys people and slows the game down. I highly doubt anyone out there is patient enough to play with someone like that. I dont want to be "that guy" that burdens a group.

#176350 Reasons why this forum is imploding

Posted by DragonChi on 25 February 2013 - 07:07 PM in Site News and Feedback

I get the feeling I'm not the best judge of character for this situation, but as advice for forums members, when members involved in incidents are ignoring the issue, please don't draw attention to it either. Often in chat, when members try to draw away from issues to talk about something else, it's always brought back up, even against the the request of the involved.

This goes back to what was said of how we should just notify the mods promptly and ignore the trolls. The end.

I cannot stress what Noona and Goomba have said enough. Every time I go in there, it is ANYTHING but games being spoken about. I don't even know what is being discussed 90% of the time cause it just gets crazy and obscure and at times inappropriate, or its a bloody soap opera. Guys, this is a Nintendo forum and chat community...what is so hard about talking about games. Honestly. There is more than enough to talk about. Why does it always turn to trash. I haven't been here as long as most of you have. But when I first got here, chat was fun, productive and on topic. Granted, it was right after the Wii U release, but still. I want to be motivated to keep coming here. It is getting harder to do that by the day. We deserve better than this and the power to change it is on all of us. Can we pull together please? for all our benefits?

#176187 Zelda U Ideas

Posted by DragonChi on 25 February 2013 - 02:21 PM in Wii U Games and Software

that....is more or less what i was talking about. just more functionality that makes sense for whatever set piece it is. they should all be enhancing in some way or another. Besides their basic function.

#176157 Zelda U Ideas

While I agree with most you mention and would love to see all that, please no stats on gear. I was just thinking how so many games, especially rpg games just come down to number crunching. Increase stat A with X%. I wish they would do away with all that. Games tend to get too technical to my liking.

What I meant by stats, is like...an invisible increase in str, stamina or defence. Including resistances. You would never see any numbers. They would just give you a basic increase. the only numbers would be in the programing and it would be incredibly basic. Not for the player to have to figure out. It would just give a description of what it increases and tells you how in a casual sense what you have gained. Similar to when the fairy gives you double defense in your hearts so you take half damage. Just like that.

#176122 Zelda U Ideas

Posted by DragonChi on 25 February 2013 - 12:51 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Art Style - To no big surprise, I was REALLY impressed with the tech demo. I would love to see that style again. Not expecting it though. Just a Hope.

Large Open World - I want something really grand. Something not too dissimilar to the openness of a GTA title in terms of Exploration and Size.

Enemy - It's hard to say no to Ganon. I want to see him not as Ganondorf, but his true form much like it was in Link To The Past. There should also be a puppet as well. By means, a secondary evil that is doing Ganon's bidding like Ghirahim (only not him, someone you can actually take seriously)

Items - We need a lot more tools and weapon options that are given a lot more use. Unlike the Spinner or the Dominion Rod. More like what we got, again, in LttP. I also want those 3 massive spells that LttP had. Those were hella fun. As they did in SS, I want gear and weapons upgradable multiple times. More bottles (4 is NEVER enough). Lastly, a badass trade sequence weapon reward, like the Biggoron Sword. I also want multiple armor sets that functionality passed what they are initially meant for. Like, in OoT/TP, the blue tunic is meant for swimming, past that it was just a tunic with a different color. Maybe they can start adding stats to gear?

Mount - I want Epona. She should also be given armor sets that are upgradable making her into a warhorse. There should be multiple saddles that increase abilities like speed. There should also be other animals like in TP (The Boar) that you can ride as well.

Story - I think it's time we get another deep story arch like Majora's Mask had. Not necessarily as dark, but just as in depth and interesting. With a killer ending to boot.

NPC's - I want this world to be a lot more lively. Like there has been enough time since Ganons' last rule for civilization to properly blossom. Again like MM, each person should have their own little story. Not just a shallow person that is just there to take up space. As for a partner for Link? I would love a new character that is cool looking, smart and tolerable like Midna who also has a very deep background and integral to the plot. Who can be playable by a second player. Nintendo has mentioned that they want to change that around. That is surely one way to do it.

Landscape - We should have the main large continent of Hyrule and its usual areas (forest, volcano, lake, desert, grasslands), but there should be ocean as well that is traversable to other reasonably big land locations. Maybe somewhere else there is a Jungle, a large Ice scape area, Marshes...areas we have rarely or never seen before in Zelda's. In some way, I would like to see a seconday world of sorts. However that can be worked out. It would just add a lot more exploration and...everything else.

GamePad Mechanics - Menu Access (obviously) and..whatever Nintendo can cleverly come up with. No part of this device should go unused.

What I DONT want:

I seriously dont want to do any more of those...light collecting challenges EVER again. It was mildly entertaining in TP, but pissed me the hell off in SS (they motivated me to stop playing entirely). NO MORE!!

#176003 Why did you join TheWiiU.com?

Posted by DragonChi on 25 February 2013 - 09:54 AM in The Café

2 reasons.

1. I got sick and tired of the Escapist Community. They are largely rude and negative. So I went looking for somewhere else to go where I would be appreciated.

2. In the process of trying to find a place to move to, I discovered your guys podcast. That was more than enough to motivate me to come here.

#175651 What HD remakes of nintendo games do you want on wii u?

Posted by DragonChi on 24 February 2013 - 04:28 PM in Wii U Games and Software

at some point in the future, I would love to see them remake Twilight Princess in the same quality as that Zelda tech demo they showed for the Wii U. That and Link to the Past.

#175643 Gaming in general seems to have run out of creative ideas

Posted by DragonChi on 24 February 2013 - 04:10 PM in General Gaming

I dont think the problem is that there are no more creative ideas. There are just fewer and fewer companies willing to take risks. Which is why we are living in a time of sequels. As games are getting more expensive to make, It's harder to take chances. Also have a look at all the dev companies that had to shut their doors for trying to be creative and their games not selling. Its horrible to be honest. I hate seeing creativity die. It's a dagger to an artists heart. I think though that with SteamBox and Ouya that might change the equation. With Indie games and the Greenlight program from Valve.

I'm aware of that. But it's what I'd like to see on the VC.

Not to mention that there IS a GameCube version. For those who dont want to use the wii-mote. Plus...with it being on the Wii U it may get a bit of a face lift.

#174912 Games You Have Unfinshed

Posted by DragonChi on 23 February 2013 - 12:54 PM in General Gaming

I am the worst at not finishing games. I don't know why, but a lot of them I just eventually lost interest and go unfinished and some not even played again. It takes a lot for me to want to complete a game. Very few motivate me to do so. Like Zelda's or Diablo, Half-Life 2, Portal 1 and 2 and a few select others.

#174373 Official Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Discussion

Posted by DragonChi on 21 February 2013 - 08:28 PM in Wii U Games and Software

When a game fails to make the player make sense of it's controls through a tutorial or through actual gameplay, that is the fault of the game. Just because the mass has gotten used a flaw doesn't mean it's not a flaw anymore... it just means the mass has looked past it. For the demo, the first look into a game new players have hands on, to ignore a newer audience base.. that's awful.

That being said, that was his opinion based off the demo as a new player being introduced to a game without guidance, giving advice to other players who may have an issue with this. New players shouldn't have to go on a Wikipedia to learn to play the game. You're speaking through the lenses of elitism.

This is PRECISELY what my close friend warned me about. Which has scared me off of buying this game. He also told me that the difficulty is similar to Dark Souls.

#174296 Why are people doubting Wii U now because of PS4?

Posted by DragonChi on 21 February 2013 - 03:49 PM in Wii U Hardware

Really the big reason why I buy Sony consoles at all, are for the exclusive RPG's. Like Ni No Kuni. Most games that come out for PlayStation platforms I have little interest in. So I am keeping my money until I see a Killer IP that makes me need that system. As for multi-plats...well, thats what my High End rig is for. Which I spare no expense on for parts (Cause that's how I roll).

#173848 Ps4=Wii U in graphics IMO

Posted by DragonChi on 20 February 2013 - 08:13 PM in General Gaming

The PS4 games are built from the ground up for it. Therefore, they look "next gen."

And they are very far along. Near launch ready. Mostly optimization and such happening now. They are engine and asset complete.

The Wii U by contrast launched with literal last gen games. even the exclusives were on last gen code from other consoles. Like a port of a last gen game.

We won't see what early "from the ground up" games look like on Wii U until E3.

Even comparing X to Killzone, KZ is probably farther along that X is.

And that is really saying something. Also, X seems to be more true open world, whereas KZ is heavily segmented, relying on "on-rails" transport systems to take the player from segment to next. KZ was also very texture-light, whereas X is texture heavy.

Interesting. I was please by what was shown for PS4, but was also surprised that the Wii U seems to be able to compete very well when code and assets are created for it.

Nintendo always plays it smarter than the next guy. I like that they always act like the little guy going in to beat on the big guys. It forces them to go unconventional. To defy logic and come out the better for it.

no one would have thought such heavy customization of the GPU would be what it is or that the memory structure would be so perfect that it allows performance far above what the specs detail.

PS4 adding 8GB of RAM just seems like a last minute decision to throw money at a problem. it would have been wiser for them to manager their memory better and match various types at various cost. They did it the expensive way. Again. and it won't necessarily ever show up in games as a huge advantage.

sure, you can have 8GB of textures, geometry (actually very light footprint compared to textures), lighting, shading, etc. going on, but if you aren't careful, you're going to drown your GPU and CPU.

I have a feeling the CPU is ok and the GPU is great. but how they all work together isn't as smart as could be, nor nearly as efficient.

And that is where the light-heavyweight Wii U, which has specs that SEEM light in comparison, will start trading blows with the heavyweights and not only get knocked down a few times, but scoring knockdowns of its own as well.

The wii U is not as powerful as the PS4. It's just not. And we knew it wouldn't be. but in terms of what you will see on screen and what you can do in-game, it is not far behind either.

This E3, it is going to be fun watching Sony fans have to apologize for why their games aren't blowing Wii U out of the water.

That is never in question with Sony.

They are a third party system primarily.

they make lame games. so third parties have no fear of compeitition.

the one thing I did notice about the PS4 though is that there was no killer app.

Not one game that said "Oh my gosh! I HAVE to have that!!!"

Not one.

And for all the bluster and talk about the system, it seems to simply be another playstation with yet another dual shock controller.

The 8 Gigs is not just for games. It is for All that the system needs to do to function with all its features. The OS needs some of it right off the bat. With all the new features, a lot of more multi-tasking will be taking place. Which is exactly what RAM is for. Then of course there is the games. 8 gigs is now a standard for any decent gaming rig. They need at least this much to pull off all these things. Developers specifically asked for this change so they could make their games how they are meant to be. 8 Gigs is not only there to allow for all these things to function, but to do so smoothly for a seamless user friendly experience. This is not something they just threw money at to solve a problem. It was entirely necessary.

Giant Enemy Crab: The Game and Rrrriiiiiiiidge Raaaaacer 2!!.....

In all seriousness though. PS4, new PS Eye Camera and Controller. That is what I expect.

I have NO idea what games IF ANY, they will announce with it. That may be something they are going to hold back for E3.
