The 2014 Winter Olympics are over. I don't know about the rest of you, but I was glued to the television (or internet feeds) during the entire event. Just like living it up in game, the Gunslingers forums and chats were full of GS members from Finland, Australia, Norway, Denmark, United States, Canada, Scotland, England, and several other regions of the globe discussing the Olympics. Amazingly enough, it done with good cheer, mutual respect, and laughter.
Case in point: During the hours of a particular Frosty Pints (i.e.: the community-wide celebration of the weekend with drinks and online matches), GS*Sosyc posted the following animated image in the forums:
And that is what a gaming clan should be about. Good times. Leave the competitive drama and stat boosting for the other groups. Rather, it is about having fun on your own terms and on your own schedule. It is about laughing. It is about comradery between friends, new and old, regardless of what nation you hail from.

This February's Nintendo Direct was a pretty exciting one! There was new updates on Smash Bros Wii U, Mario Kart 8, NES Remix II, Gameboy Advance selections on the Wii U's Virtual Console, and several 3DS-related game announcements.
So excited were we, the Shellslingers, about the news, we even dedicated an entire one-hour podcast to discussing our reaction to the Nintendo Direct! The podcast featured fellow adult Wii U gamers, GS*Merky Water, GS*MisterYoda, GS*Winged_Human, GS*Cope, and GS*McMurphy.
Here is a Youtube excerpt from the podcast featuring Mario Kart 8 discussion:
You can listen or download to the entire podcast via iTunes, our podcast's RSS feed, Podomatic, or directly from our clan's site!

Don't get me wrong: I really enjoy my Wii U. That said, it does feel like Nintendo has no clue or is just not interested in having a foothold in any niche market during this generation of consoles. The less they do now to gather consumer interest, the more important (and difficult) it will be that MK8 and Smash Bros to get the Wii U out of this downward spiral in regards to market share.

Doesn't the Wii U win by default in regards to which console to give as a gift for Christmas?
Seasonal shoppers aren't going to be able to get their hands on a PS4 or XboxOne prior to holidays, anyway. Maybe CNet would like to recommend $1,000,000 in gold bars as a good gift as well....

Hello, current and potential Gunslingers!
I have some exciting news to share on our front. It is apparent that players can stream live footage of themselves gaming, and so we have created a new feature on the Gunslinger Gaming site to accommodate that need!
Gunslinger Gaming now has a Live Feed site page!

Now, on the top navigational bar of all GS site pages (including the forum), you will see a link called "Live Feed." That will bring you to our new page! If you wish to try out what I am talking about directly from this post, here is the link in question: http://www.gunslinge...html/twitch.php
You can even scroll through icons of all the participating members to see who is or is not currently broadcasting before selecting anyone from the drop-down menu. You can refresh the icons to see if anyone has just logged in without disrupting the current stream you are watching or the chat window!

Current and Future Gunslingers!
I know it has been some time since this thread has gotten attention, but that is because I am in a middle of a big move. The good news is that the Gunslingers clan is just as active as ever. Why? Well, because our entire group is composed of folks who juggle real life with our love of gaming. It is amazing how well things work when everyone can relate!
Anyway, here are some recent, general updates taking place within the Gunslingers that you all may be interested in:
Member Spotlight - The GS clan is all about the members, which is why we periodically pick an active member at random to publish an interview in our blog. September's edition features our sci-fi loving members, GS*Gaz_Bot! Find out more about his thirst for science fiction, tattoos, and microbrews.
Official Gunslingers Twitch.tv Channel - We have been featuring the live streaming channels of GS members for some time. Now, we have created an official Gunslinger Gaming channel in which all interested members can broadcast from...creating a channel composed of gaming content from around the world!
Football Season Tribute - American pro and college level football has begun and, as a tribute, we have added a football highscore game to our custom and ever growing Gunslinger Arcade! It is a great way to kill some time (preferably while the boss isn't looking) when we can't be in-game!
Gunslinger Gaming Podcast - If you haven't had a chance to listen to Episode Six of our hilarious podcast, take a listen! It is like other gaming podcasts...but with beer.
New Memberships Keep Coming! - Normally, the gaming community doesn't go into overdrive until the Fall and Winter times of the year. That may be true, but people keep signing up with the Gunslingers in the meantime! We are proud to provide an oasis for 129 new members during the month of August! Welcome aboard and thank you all for joining!
If you have read the above and our gaming group sounds like your type of brew, you are invited to join the Gunslingers! Finally, there is a place exclusively for older, casual gamers. Unite!
The Nintendo Wii U Clan for Adults.
The Mario Kart 8 Clan for Adults.
The Wii U Splinter Cell: Blacklist Clan for Adults.
The Wii U Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Clan for Adults.
The Wii U Call of Duty: Ghosts Clan for Adults.
Gunslingers - Blazing Trails for Parent and Hard Working Adult Gamers.

I apologize in advance for the double post. I just wish to make note that the information in the first post has been updated to reflect that, while we still play Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, we are now focusing on Call of Duty: Ghosts. A large majority of our Wii U members are going to be on from day-one, so I hope to see you all there!

How does your CoD clan work? If it's for older gamers it sounds like something I might be interested in. Do you have regular times when clan-members play together or anything like that?
We don't demand any particular times, but every Friday and Saturday evening we celebrate COD and an end of a work week with what we dub as Frosty Pints. ![]()

Well that's a damn shame, I was looking forward to that feature.
regardless of that though, is anyone else planning to buy COD: Ghost on the day of launch, or soon after it launches?
I have it pre-ordered on the Wii U, so you will see me online from day-one.
As a person who runs a Wii U COD clan, I am disappointed to hear that our version will be stripped of the in-game clan function, yet not surprised. It is a shame that us Nintendo fans must continue to trade a full COD experience with the addition of motion controls....which the Nintendo version is still the only to offer.

Exactly. This subject matter is a bit dark for a Wii U community. Besides, judging by some of the initial responses, many of the members may be too young to fully appreciate how terrible of a story it is.

Yeah, the age of video game manuals is long gone. I have to admit I was the nerd who liked to, at the very least, thumb through the manual prior to popping in the game for the first time. ![]()
Does anyone else remember just how thick the instruction manual for the original Super Mario Bros (NES) was? They explained EVERYTHING in that thing...even as to why a player got points for smashing a brick.
And. in case you were wondering why, you got points for smashing bricks because doing so released the souls of Mushroom Kingdom citizens who were transformed into that state by King Bowser. ![]()

Using unsophisticated language isn't immature.
By itself? No, it isn't. But to use unsophisticated language as a way to belittle another person's viewpoint is.

Everything is an argument to you people.
Can't people just say I think this and you think that without someone coming in saying Y U IS ARGUE WAH WAH IS ARGUE ON INTERNETS FORUMS! WAH
Your criticism would be more founded if xWydrAx had actually (de)constructed his sentences in that manner. As it stands, you only validate his point in regards to everything becoming an argument by responding so immaturely.

Well, I think there are two arguments being made here:
1.) No chat because of technical commitment. If the person responsible for the tech support side of the site doesn't want install a chat, then there isn't going to be an official chat. Simple as that.
Now, if the issue is side-stepping that avenue, there are free alternatives that are fairly decent. Trust me, I am ALL about doing things cheap. For example, there is Chatango group chats, which can be quite easily embedded anywhere in the forums and very flexible in regards to resizing and customizing color schemes. Its moderation tools, which are simplistic, include reviewing chat history, banning usernames and IPs, and assembling a moderation team.
The pros: Very flexible, free, and it can be given a title with the promotion link description so, if any should embed it elsewhere, it will always advertise this site.
The cons: The chat won't be tied into the forum's user database. So, if it is a concern of banning someone from the forums AND the chat, those are two different acts.
I use a free chat program on my site, but it serves a different type of community. This addresses an unofficial desire to make a www.thewiiu.com chat center rather than something more official appearing, which will involve tech administration. Of course, if you are someone who wants the moderation staff to front money and the time to attempt to get past the wishes of the site owner/technician, then I do believe that is a display of unwarranted entitlement.
2.) No chat because of time commitment. From all the comments made by Mournblade in this and other chat related topics, this concern is the real reason there isn't a chat. And it is a very valid one. Sure, it doesn't seem like a big deal to maintain a chat, but the moderation of it (assuming you want a chat that actually demands some dignity being displayed by its users) can be an immense task. It is also largely thankless task because a moderator often gets treated like a bad guy in the whole affair. Can a chat be maintained properly? Yes, of course. A properly maintained chat could most certainly be at thewiiu.com, but it demands time...time that someone (and most likely a team of someones) has to put in for free. Since the site isn't an utility, expecting people to undertake a whole set of headaches for free because of our collective whim is unfair.

I always have photo ID on me. Really, everyone should.
But that is besides the point. If you are going to pick up a rated Mature title on its launch date, a person has got to be pretty witless to not expect to be carded. The fines for a retailer getting caught not carding can be pretty steep, depending on the location. Claiming that a customer had a pre-ordered receipt will not get retailers out of the fines, by the way, so it obviously won't be enough for the customer, either.
Just to clarify, a student ID would not be enough to pick up a Mature rated title since many colleges also run accredited classes for high school students who are college bound. A government-issued photo identification card is necessary.
That is not to say that I agree with that manager's actions. She crossed a line and needlessly so considering the bonehead customer was already walking out of the store.
Sidenote: The world is quite small, indeed. I used to work with the (area) manager featured in the video. All I will say in public is that such behavior is not an isolated occurrence. It was only a matter of time such antics was going to catch up to her.

It doesn't really bother me. To be honest, it never really occurred to me that I should be getting free titles just because Nintendo lowers the price of the console. As someone has already pointed out, present Wii U owners had access to 30 Cent Promotion of NES and SNES titles. Besides, are people really this surprised that a console is the most expensive during the first leg of its release? It has ALWAYS been that way. My concern lies more in being treated like a beta tester for a retail product than paying more at a device's launch than consumers will sometime down the road.
It is a shame for the people who bought the system, say, a month ago. They, for the most part, missed out on the promotions and haven't had the $50 worth of early access. Then again, the Wii U purchase rate has dropped quite a bit in recent months, so truly affected parties are at a micro level.
