#191229 Wii U change out external hard drive

Posted by tshrimp on 07 April 2013 - 01:09 PM in Wii U Hardware

I put a 500GB hard drive on my Wii U, but now have a 250GB available which is more than enough for the Wii U. I could use the 500GB for Video storage etc, so would rather replace my 500GB on the Wii U with the 250GB HD. Anyone know if there is a way to move my downloaded games and saves from one HD to the other. (500 to 250)?

Thanks

I just have been playing Darksiders II, and am surprised how much fun it is. Might be the best Action RPG type game (has some Prince of Persia elements) I have ever played. I have 8 games, and this and Batman AC are my favorite so far.

#156635 Black OPS 2 Poll. GamePad or Wii Remote

I am thinking of getting the Pro controller for battery life and better ergonomics. Maybe it will help me from coming in last every time. I make someone who stinks look good.

#155052 Install of discs

so... why dony you just buy the download version of the game from the eshop, and download it to your external hard drive?

Easy question to answer.

I paid less on all my games then the cost of the downloads (8 Games so far). I can't take downloads to a friends house like I can a disk. Also I cannot sell my downloads back to stores like Gamestop and Best Buy like I can the disks.

#154900 Black OPS 2 Poll. GamePad or Wii Remote

Posted by tshrimp on 01 January 2013 - 02:03 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I tried wiimote yesterday and I couldn't stand it. I'm sure I'd just need to get used to it, but I don't intend to. I love the gamepad, even more than my 360 controller.

This is kind of why I posted this. I played Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and liked the controls, but I tried BLOPS2 team deathmatch. 1 kill. I then played with the gamepad and got 4 kills. I know, neither one is something to brag about, but I was level one, and the next lowest person was like 39. I never have seen so many one shot kills.

Please nintendo let us install the games on the hd´s

Preach on!!!!

If Nintendo make us buy our own storage (8-32GB is not enough) the least they could do is give us the option to install games directly.

I was just wondering how most people play COD Black Ops 2. Make a note why you think one is better than the other. I use the Gamepad, as I have never been a fan of motion controls, but this game looks ripe for them. What do you think?

#153328 wii u cpu and gpu clock speed.

I'd bet my left nut that several of the tech nuts on this forum have already read this, or articles stating the same thing (heck, even I don't really get into this console tech numbers nonsense and know Marcan cracked it).

There's nothing wrong with this thread per se, and despite it not really looking like it, these types of thread have been flamebait in recent days. The brawl over specification discussion is ridiculous.

You are in luck....you do not have to give up your left nut. I am a tech geek, and have read this. It is so hard to tell how things will turn out. Spec and reviews on the PS3 was how it is the most powerful of the consoles, but we have seen that it seems to have slightly worse graphics than the Xbox 360, and more framerate issues.

We will know in the next year or 2 how powerful the system actually is. The fact that it can handle a direct port with success is a good sign.

#153321 External HDD question

Posted by tshrimp on 28 December 2012 - 08:38 PM in Wii U Hardware Help

Walmart has 500GB USB3 (should be backward compatable with USB2) for under $60. Not sure if it has a Y cable or not though.

http://www.walmart.c...-Drive/21094667

I bought a $6 enclosure and put a Mac hard drive in it that had been replaced by an SSD and it works great so far. Buy one local, and if it doesn't work take it back. Best Buy, Walmart, Frys, Microcenter, etc should have something that will work fine.

I got this when Toys R Us was having the buy one get one 50% off. Got this and Batman. I have not opened this one yet as I am still playing Batman and didn't want to open a new game just yet. Still sitting in the shrink wrap.

My favorite was Uncharted: Golden Abyss on the Vita, but Mass Effect 3 is probably the real contender.

#145292 Where are game patches installed?

Posted by tshrimp on 07 December 2012 - 09:30 PM in General Gaming

Here is my question. I have PS3/Xbox360/Wii U and love them all, but the 8GB in my Wii U basic (even 32 in the pro) is too small. No problem as I have an external hard drive I can put on it (500GB). My question is this. There will be game patches at some point to fix bugs, help with game performance, etc. I am wondering where these patches will install. I see it being difficult to put a patch on the external hard drive as if removed the game would freak out. With only 3GB of free space now there is almost no space for game patches. Many of which on the other systems top 1gb.

So were will the patches for games install?

Well, they did innovate with motion controls, in that they made them...you know...work., and work well. See below for definition of innovate. Motion controls were brought to market for the Atari 2600. I never used the Atari controller so can't say if it worked well. I did own the one from MS, and it worked well. Also I hate to say it, but although the Wii motion controls work "ok" it is borderline well. They can be very imprecise, and can cause massive frustration at times. If I recall correctly, they were doing portable-console interaction with the GBA-GameCube long before PSP/PS3 interaction came through. Maybe you are correct. And Xbox SmartGlass, while first to market, seemed like something thrown at Xbox fanboys in a rush in retaliation to the Wii U. Maybe, but again see definition of innovation. Plus, from what I've read, it's actually more of a pain than it should be, as you also have to juggle the Xbox controller around while using the SmartGlass feature. Oh, and while using Kinect. Can't forget that. (was being facetious here). Although Kinect is nice it isn't innovation either as others have used similar thing, but Kinect does it better. Kind of like Nintendo has done.

They "innovated" (put in quotes because I'm not sure if that's the right word) by making arcade-quality games available for home purchase through the NES, along with saving the video game market with it in general. (Nope. There were arcade quality graphics with systems such as Coleco Vision, Atari 5200, etc.)
The SNES was the first home console controller to provide shoulder buttons. (Yep, and the great triangle button system still used today). And the not-a-brick controller shape. (Sega Genesis was out before the SNES by about a year or so, and it was not a brick controller. )
The Virtual Boy at least tried to make a all-3D "handheld," much like the 3DS, except the 3D with this system gave you horrible headaches after 20 minutes of use. Not to mention the neck cramps. (Was innovation, but did not succeed.)
The N64, if I'm not mistaken, was the first 3D home gaming console, and was the first to provide an analog stick on a gaming controller. (Atari 2600 controllers do not count, those are joysticks.) (Sorry to say Coleco has this one as well, but was a more blocky controller.)
The GameCube, albeit limited, brought even more involved system-handheld capabilities, shown in games such as The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. However, it also had the most freaking comfortable controller of all time.( I thought is was awful, but this is an opinion thing.)
The Wii brought motion controls to good use in the home console market at a more than affordable price, which made games such as Red Steel 2 possible. (Agreed). It also refined such ideas as the Atari 2600 Joyboard with the Wii Balance Board.
The Wii U is bringing a tablet/controller all-in-one hybrid to home consoles pre-packaged with the console itself, while keeping the various innovations of the Wii intact. With other consoles, you either have to buy a tablet (Smartglass) or another game console entirely (PSP/PS3 or Vita/PS3 or Vita/PS4). (You are correct, but most people own an iPad or Android device of some kind these days. And I agree it doesn't work as well as the Wii U.)
The DS brought with it a revolution in how to play portable games with its two-screen gameplay concept, spawning games such as Brain Age, Nintendogs, and more. (You are correct. )
Last, but not least in the slightest, is the 3DS, which brought 3D games that didn't destroy your brain to the portable market. 3D to portable yes, but not to gaming as PS3 and Xbox 360 had the on the TV. Nice of them to bring to handheld, but maybe borderline innovative.

While I will agree with you that Nintendo hasn't innovated as much as people think they have, they really have innovated and brought many new ideas and gameplay models to fruition.

Comparing them to Apple isn't really that fair at all. Nintendo tries to innovate often enough, Apple...not so much. Unless making things thinner counts. (True. Maybe this was not fair. Apple takes ideas more directly than Nintendo.)

I would like to start by giving you the definition of innovation from dictionary.com "

something new or different introduced" See inline for comments.

I would also like to thank you for your well

thought out comments, and can understand how some can see Nintendo in this light, but what they have done is take good innovations and made them better, and we have all benefited. I like my Wii U and am not a "hater". I just like video game history and like to see how earlier innovations have evolved with Nintendo at the for front.

#142736 The official "What games should I get?" Thread

Posted by tshrimp on 03 December 2012 - 02:24 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I am looking at getting 4 games for my nephews. The all need to be local multiplayer, They do not like Mario games, or usually games with Mario in them, and no sports games. Are there 4 games available that meet this requirement?

Let me know if this should be a new topic, and I can create it.

Thanks for the help.

NES was a revolution
SNES was an evolution
Virtual Boy was a Coup d'etat (an outlier)
N64 was a revolution
Gamecube was an evolution
Wii was a revolution
and the WiiU is an evolution

this is simply the changing of the guard for Nintendo consoles

But what have they "innovated". Motion Controls? Nope Atari and Microsoft did that many many years ago.
Tablet interaction with system. Sony and MS have done this already. But I have not tried the Xbox Smart Glass, and the PSP integration was very basic with the PS3, and never really went anywhere.

Don't get me wrong. Nintendo is just like Apple, they didn't come up with many of their ideas...they just made those ideas better.

#142732 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by tshrimp on 03 December 2012 - 02:15 PM in Wii U Hardware

why? are you telling me you brought this machine as a hardcore gamer machine? if yes, then you clearly dont know Nintendo.. and even if its CPU is a tad weak.. even tho not by much! but who cares?

I care. I understand Nintendo has not been much in the way of specs, but they are the ones who touted this would be a hard core game machine. At least that is what I get out of them going after the older gamers as they are the hardcore market.

the GPU smashes the ever living crap out of the current gen machines and the Ram is double that of the xbox 360 and quadruple that of the PS3 effective RAM.

GPU is better, but not by much (Do like the FXAA). Has more RAM, and I give them that, but from what I understand it is slow RAM. I remember a motherboard I had that took DDR and DDR2 memory. I had 512MB of DDR and replaced it with 256MB of DDR 2 and even though I had less ram it was benchmarked at 10% faster with the DDR2.

and on top of all that it is!! new and it IS! different! that's the 2 main reasons i got mine.. and it will do for a year or 2 until the heavyweights from Sony and or M$ are released.. its only 299 bucks, its easily worth it and will hold its own at least until the true next gen arrives!

Being on top for one year is kind of my point. Do I want a machine for a year or for 7 years? And only $299....you are wealthier than I if that is a drop in the bucket for you. And as far as different...kind of, but different isn't always better...time will tell. Keep in mind Microsoft has Xbox Smart Glass which has added a tablet ability to their console before Nintendo. However, Nintendo has done it better IMO. I did order some Darksiders 2 and Batman AC, so it looks like I have decided to keep it, plus I was able to get mine for $200 (don't ask long story).

I do want to thank you for your input as we all expect different things. I would love to see Nintendo have a screaming machine with different game play together, and not just one or the other.

See responses inline.

I typed a big long post, and just deleted it. Instead I will ask this....What has Nintendo Innovated?

I am not a "hater". If I was I wouldn't have bought the Wii U.

#142278 What's the most expensive video game you've ever bought?

Posted by tshrimp on 02 December 2012 - 05:52 PM in General Gaming

$59.99 +tax. No particular game, but I tend to get buy when on sale or when older. Game is still just as fun. Ex. Just got Metroid Prime 3 for $4.50 +Tax. Sigularity, Dirt 2, Rage - $10 each. 4 good games for $35.

#142270 For those of you with multiple systems

Posted by tshrimp on 02 December 2012 - 05:39 PM in General Gaming

I like all my systems, but the Xbox 360 is used most for cross platform games. But I like the PS3 exclusives better (Uncharter). If you are not a fan of PS3 exclusives the Xbox is better imo. Controller feels better, frame rates tend to be better.

#141885 Cant link 2 wii u's witj one account?

MS and Sony ties things to your account and not your hardware. For some reason Nintendo does not do this. I hope someday Nintendo will start listening to its customers.

#141757 wii u internet connection

Posted by tshrimp on 01 December 2012 - 09:24 PM in Wii U Hardware

Yes it will.

A wired connection will always give you faster download speeds then a wireless connection. The actuall Internet speed won't change but a direct wired connection will be far more efficient. There is no way realistically that a wireless connection can be faster then the actual Internet connection.

Sorry, but with all due respect that is incorrect. Fios fastest is 50/25 Mbps. http://www22.verizon...st-internet/ . Also the average Internet connection speed is 2.3 Mbps. http://www.tomshardw...idth,15525.html
Wireless N is speeds can be up to 300 Mbps http://news.cnet.com...0351215-94.html
Even older wireless g is 54 Mbps which is still faster than connectivity to your ISP.

Download speed is dictated by the lowest speed item, and that bottleneck is usually your internet connection..Don't get me wrong if you are downloading from your computer to a console then this would be different as many are gig these days. Also hard wire is usually more reliable.

#141266 wii u internet connection

Posted by tshrimp on 30 November 2012 - 09:22 PM in Wii U Hardware

well from what i have heared the wii u wireless internet connection has its limits so i wanted know if i bought the wired usb adapter would i get faster connection?

Even wireless is usually faster than your internet connection, so the bottleneck is from your Internet Service Provider, and not WiFi.

#141072 AWFUL Nintendo Store Rule!

Posted by tshrimp on 30 November 2012 - 02:45 PM in Wii U Games and Software

That is one thing I like about the Xbox 360. I have two of them.I can download on both consoles, and since both are attached to my account if I am logged in I can play the game. I can even go to a friends house and log in as me and we can play the game. Microsoft knows how to do this right. Another thing I like is the Cloud Saves. Again as I play on 2 different machines I can save to the cloud and my save is there no matter which I log into.

Nintendo will get there. But until they do I am going to buy the disks. But for the OP....I agree and I feel your pain.
