Posted by Rickhunter7 on 13 October 2014 - 04:47 AM in Wii U Games and Software

The cutscenes arent pre rendered.

they're not? Mind = blown.
Anyway, after 3 play sessions I've improved my score from bronze to silver!

#300224 Bayonetta 2 demo available on the Nintendo eShop NA and EU!

I just played to demo and I couldn't believe my eyes. It looks amazing! Pre-rendered and in engine scenes blend seamlessly, and it actually feels funny going from pre-rendered at 30 FPS to in engine at 60 FPS, the action is really smooth and fast paced and graphics look sharp enough. I know this game runs at 720p but I swear, if it ran at 1080 it would be impossible to tell the difference, I mean, who the hell would be able to notice lack of definition or "jaggies" while everything is happening so fast around you? You would need to not be playing.
Anyway, I'm so happy I pre ordered and I can't wait to play the whole thing.

#275006 Is it easier to hit 1080p on the Wii U than the XBone?

Posted by Rickhunter7 on 27 February 2014 - 05:05 PM in Wii U Hardware

The Xbone has bee getting hell because it can't play multiplats in 1080p that the PS4 can. This doesn't mean it is inferior to the WiiU in any way, it's just inferior to the PS4. If you take all the games that run native 1080p in the WiiU and run them in the Xbone they would run just fine, even better. Xbone's problem is that it has to compete withs PS4. Poor bloke.

720p

Look beeeeautiful!!!

I don't care about the resolution, this looks like it will be a work of art on every frame. Can't wait.

#267610 Post Your Wii U Library and Collection

Posted by Rickhunter7 on 20 January 2014 - 09:40 AM in Wii U Games and Software

My library is rather modest, I am a parent in a budget after all:

Physical copies:

Mass Effect 3

COD Black Ops 2

NFS Most Wanted U

AC4 Black Flag

Super Mario 3D World

Digital copies:

TLOZ Wind Waker HD

Duck Tales Remastered

Tennis for Wii Sports Club.

I'm not sure I will be buying any new games this year since I'm buying a house and that's going to leave me broke (even more so) But if I can I'd love to pick up a copy of Bayo 2 and X along with Mario Kart and Smash Brothers. Let's hope.

#253411 What is upscaling? an educational experiment.

Posted by Rickhunter7 on 28 October 2013 - 09:37 AM in Wii U Hardware

Upscaling often makes the output looks worse, depending on the source.  Generally, upscaling algorithms will never be good enough to make up for lost information when blown up to a bigger screen size.

That's why I am against 4K.  We will go through the same pains with Blu-Rays on 4K TVs, not to mention how horrible DVDs will look on them.

You are absolutely right. That's why I'm going to express my oposition to 4K the best way I can: Not buying one. Easy, right?

#252780 Street Fighter 4: Here's an idea.

Posted by Rickhunter7 on 23 October 2013 - 06:18 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I just recently heard some news about Capcom declaring that they don't have enough money to make a port of SF4 to the next gen consoles. Considering that Nintendo just "rescued" the Bayonetta franchise (which I'm really happy about) Wouldn't it be a good idea if Nintendo rescued that franchise as well to make it an exclusive?

You may argue that this particular game has been played to death and there's no point in porting it any more, you're probably right. But then Nintendo could sponsor the next iteration in the franchise to make it an exclusive, just the way it happened with Bayonetta.

I have to admit that this is probably a bad idea, but I want to hear your opinions anyway.

Cheers.

#252178 What is upscaling? an educational experiment.

Posted by Rickhunter7 on 19 October 2013 - 05:19 PM in Wii U Hardware

Hello.

Reading many posts related to graphics I've noticed that some people have trouble grasping the concept of native resolution and upscaling. Because of this I want to propose an experiment that can make these concepts clear to anyone. This experiment can easily be done if you gather all the elements, hell you don't even need to gather the elements, you just need to do the steps in order. Without further ado, here it is:

Elements you need to get:

* A high definition TV, preferably full HD (1080p)

* A DVD player (a normal one, not the newer ones that come with an hdmi port)

* A Blu Ray player

* A movie in DVD and a movie in Blu Ray, preferably the movies should be the computer animation kind like Shrek or Cars, it is also better if both movies are the same.

Step 1: Hook up the DVD player and play the DVD movie. Notice how there is an important amount of "jaggedness" around the edges of objects, for example, in the Lion King movie you can see that the whiskers of the lions don't look completely curved but they have "steps" instead. This is because the DVD has a native resolution of 480p, the same definition that the original Xbox, the Ps2 and the Wii have.

Step2: Hook up the Blu Ray player and put the DVD movie in. Notice a difference? this time there is still some "jaggedness" but it may look blurry or softened. It should look a bit better in general. This is because the Blu Ray player is upscaling the movie's native resolution of 480p to 1080p. This is done by using all those extra pixels to "fill in" and soften those "steps" that you would otherwise see from a normal DVD player.

Step 3: Finally put the Blu Ray movie in the Blu Ray player (where else?) and marvel at the difference. If you are actually playing the same movie in both DVD and Blu Ray you will immediately notice how the Blu Ray looks much sharper and the image is much clearer and crisp. This is because the movie in the Blu Ray disc is in native 1080p, there is no upscaling involved!

I hope this is useful to illustrate what exactly "native" and "upscaling" mean.

#252176 Bayonetta 2 1080p REALLY?

Posted by Rickhunter7 on 19 October 2013 - 05:01 PM in Wii U Hardware

I'm sure it'll be 720p.

"journalists" can make guesses based on the games being played on tv's but they have no idea, same with the reps at the events.

This wouldn't be bad, I think I'm gonna love the game no matter the native resolution of it.

If its a 1080p TV the game is running on it should be fairly easy to tell if you can get close enough to examine the pixels, unless of course its running at some odd resolution between the two and upscaling from that.

Another clever trick they like to pull is rendering the HUD at 1080p while the game itself is running at less.  That can make it a bit more tricky as the HUD is where its easiest to spot pixel doubling.  Its a nice trick to keep any on screen text nice and sharp though, definitely worth doing even if it doesn't give you the main benefits of native 1080p - more details in the picture and less visible aliasing.

That's a clever trick indeed.

#252020 Bayonetta 2 1080p REALLY?

Posted by Rickhunter7 on 18 October 2013 - 02:32 PM in Wii U Hardware

Hi.

Bayonetta 2 is a game I'm really excited about and just recently I heard that it will be running at 1080p 60fps on the Wii U. Do you know this to be true? because if it is true I will be 400% more hyped that I already am, which is a lot.
