Has anybody actually used the video chat application? What do you think? I don't know anybody with a Wii U so I haven't tried it. I've "friended" several people, but I haven't crossed the awkward barrier of requesting a video since I don't actually know these people.

I've used it with one of my buddies. Its really cool! the quality of it is surprisingly good in terms of a stable connection and not jumping/cutting out (and my apartment has really crappy wi-fi) One feature we both really enjoyed was being able to draw/write on your gamepad and it shows up on the other persons screen (we ended up drawing tophats and moustaches on each other lol)

I tried it out with someone I met while camping out for the Wii U. The quality was surprising okay, and the drawing was fun! We ended up being disruptively disconnected though and I haven't tried it since. This Friday I'll be able to give a full report.

//EDIT

I completely forgot to mention, I hate how it deals with incoming calls. If both parties aren't present in the app, you won't know and the person who missed the call will be left with an automated message from the person who attempted to call. It's add and rather frustrating.

This seems like an awkward piece of software if you don't have anyone you know on your friends list.

Has anyone had trouble with the video chat not working? I have tried to use with someone across the world, would this be an issue?

Real life friend I Grew up with just got his for his birthday. Just tried it and we were both surprised how smooth it was. Didn't lag or freeze at all . I drew all over his face and talked about the past few years. Overall a solid app but I wouldn't video chat with randoms. My wife made an account and already got bombarded with video chat invites. Damn pervs. Deleted

I believe the home button lights up and flashes like when one of your friends goes online. Im not sure how long it lights up/flashes for though.

ahhhh right thanks,thats one of the only things i dont like about the console,when people come online or call it should show on the screen,i always miss when someone has come online as its hard to notice the home button glowing/flashing when your into a game.

Youre tellin me. Its hard to notice that flashing light if you're heavily immersed in gameplay but sometimes I do see it outta the corner of my eye but thats not enough. Maybe if the gamepads rumble feature went off at the same time it would alert us a little better.

I think it's superb, me and my mate usually have a chat on it when we are both online but there's one thing that I really dislike and ignore calls sometime for. You have to close your game to go to video chat. No matter if you've saved or not, ou accept a call and it closes your game down instantly to start the video chat, BLOODY ANNOYING!! I end up ignoring some calls now though because of it. i hope Nintendo sort it out if it can be done.
