That's simply amazing from Nintendo, and simply ridiculous for Sony. I thought Sony was so popular in Japan? I almost, ALMOST feel bad for them. But not entirely, because hey, they're Sony and they're always nitpicking on the big N.

Does anyone have numbers of 3DS world wide sales? I think it should be around 20-25 million now. I heard it surpassed N64 and Gamecube lifecycle sales already.

Edit: and, I'm also curious if Black Ops: Declassified boosted Vita sales in Europa and the USA. Most gamers here love COD, so why not buy a portable version of it?

Handhelds are more popular than home consoles in Japan. Probably explains why most JRPGs (or Japanese games for that matter) nowadays are on handheld. That, and Sony isn't as popular in Japan like they used to be. They pretty much declined worldwide.

Sony never been overly popular in Japan. Sega owned Sony in Japan with the Saturn and DC.

That refers to Japan ONLY.

Молоту войн и рокоту гроз вольные рати верны, где ветром могучим из братины звёзд рунные стяги пьяны.

@Keviin: Declassified was the suxor. Poor ratings everywhere. I would bet those who bought a Vita for it traded the handheld back in along with the game.

Anyway, in Japan, this is expected. Sony is junk status in Japan right now, and the Japanese always adored Nintendo and their handhelds.

PS2 crushed the DC. It was part of the reason for the system's early death. I remember watching it on Icons.

The DS sold 32 million units in Japan throughout it's life. I wonder if the 3DS will catch it.

Those numbers are skewed. The DC,as a gaming machine did way better. Game stores didn't even sell the PS2, only DVD retailers did and it sold great as a DVD player. Unfortunately it still sold better No matter How you look at it. But friends who live in Japan agree with me that the DC was a better selling gamers machine, not a glorified DVD player.

I hope you don't mind, but I edited the title just to make things a bit clearer. Don't want anyone only reading the title and over reacting.

I'm glad to hear that the 3DS is doing this well. However, I would feel better if I knew how sales are going in other parts of the world.

I'm not surprised by this news given the fact that sony's sales in japan are terrible atm but at the time i'm a little surprised that these numbers surpassed the PS3 already.

You sent me a link to a review of The Walking Dead, so I looked up another one. It says the story campaign is short (2 hours?!) and one of the most interesting game modes (hostiles, AKA survival from MW3) doesn't have co-op. Safe for that, it doesn't really look like it sucks to me. I thought always was an instant buy anyway for most fans, but this disproves the statement.

PS2 crushed the DC. It was part of the reason for the system's early death. I remember watching it on Icons.

It's a quarter on it's way, and about two to three quarters on it's lifespan on the way so.. It's possible, it's selling faster, but I wouldn't count on it. It would need a ridiculous amount of must-haves, and it needs to stay interesting for a few more years.
