If you bought a 3DS before August 11th/August 12th and connected to the eShop (not including Europe, Australia, or Latin America, since Europe/Australia you can do proof of purchase by September 30th (I think you send a letter to Ninty), and Latin America you just have to do the system update on August 19th. You hear that Latinos? You got till August 19th instead of the 12th. Lucky you.), you're an Ambassador! What is that? Read on:

• Starting Sept. 1, Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES™ Virtual Console™ games at no charge and before they are available in the Nintendo eShop to the general public. These games, including Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™ and The Legend of Zelda™, are slated to become paid downloadable games, but Ambassadors get them early for free. Once the paid versions of the games are posted to the Nintendo eShop later in the year, the updated versions will be available to Ambassadors for download at no cost.
• By the end of 2011, Nintendo will provide Ambassadors with 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games. These include games like Yoshi's Island™: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit, Metroid™ Fusion, WarioWare™, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™. These games will be available exclusively to Ambassadors, and Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on the Nintendo 3DS in the future.

The NES games will feature multiplayer. At first, it won't have any, but when it is released to the general public, multiplayer will happen. GBA games don't get multiplayer, sadly. More announced games should be announced soon. In the mean time, there is a rumor list going around:

Wow, that's a lot of free games! I really hope that we get this, or a similar offer, in Europe sometime soon.

Edit: I checked on the Nintendo UK website and it has this article. It looks as if Europe will be getting this too!

I want all handheld Zeldas to be playable on the 3DS. AKA: Minish Cap. I think that's it, other than the Oracles. Also, POKEMON! (Not possible, right?) And not gonna happen, but Kingdom Hearts: Chains of Memories.
