I have this GIANT urge to play the dungeons and dragons board game all of a sudden! Do you know the easiest way to get back into the game, or if there is a video game avalible that is like the board game (no dungeons and dragons online!)?

You have to buy the rulebooks and the dice and get some friends.

I know but are there any specific things that you would recommend?

I DM for my group every Wednesday night. If your looking to get back into it, the best way may be to find some friends or a local group that plays. I find most people looking to get back into it just jump back in with minor hand holding. I never turned down someone looking to learn/get back into D&D. Depending on what your used to, 4th edition is much different that the rest of the versions. Books can be expensive so I'd at least hunt down a Players Handbook if nothing else..if you can find a used copy even better. Like I said, if you can find a local group...preferably that any friends are part of...just tell them its been a while and you want to get back into it. I'm sure they will help you out. There isn't any other way to be honest.
I'd also like to offer any help I can provide, if you have questions or anything really. As a DM I'm used to teaching new players or re-acquainting old ones.

I really wish I could get into D&D. But I had to stop playing it. Mostly because I have such terrible short term memory that I can never remember what I am supposed to roll for whatever the case may be, and that just annoys people and slows the game down. I highly doubt anyone out there is patient enough to play with someone like that. I dont want to be "that guy" that burdens a group.

lol.
Also, dnd looks so chaotic.
You just make stuff up.
In a competitive game I'd rather have rules.

D&D isn't competitive though, its all team based. Also there are guidelines, but they vary per DM.

It is both, from my experience.

Then it's being played wrong. Trust me, I've been playing for a very long time. It's not competitive nor is it meant to be. If someone was looking for a competitive pen and paper game, then this isn't the game they are looking for.

you are competing against the dm.

etc.
Everything is competitive, even petting a puppy.
