Dunno this is probably pretty 'old' but I don't remember it being discussed. Someone on 3DS forums just posted this.

Someone found this in the code of BF4's website.

IGN claimed they haven't even played the game yet, but still it's already 'game of the year'. Obviously, they're getting paid to say this.

IGN always does this with others. So its no surprise to hear this.

It's still saddening that gaming journalism has come to this. I think IGN articles are well-written, and sometimes I agree with their reviews (especially the Nintendo reviews) but rainbow like this is ridiculous.

Because Nintendo reviews are the only legit ones because they're games are so good they don't NEED to have exaggerated reviews.

Not really, Nintendo reviews are biased too. It just depends on the website.

This was already removed from the code. Means nothing. Doesn't mean anyone was paid off, LOL.

It's not a "no big deal" thing.

It was purposely put there by a staff member who was instructed to do so. For a reason.

Predicting a games smashing success is one thing.

Doing so with zero idea of how the game looks or plays? Something smells. But just like ms and Sony guerilla warfare on video game forums, that kind of thing is just "normal" now.

Poole are so used to it they just don't care how corrupt anything is.

You are reading too much into this. If IGN does give it Game of The Year, perfect scores, etc, then you will have a case. But it was put there by a staff member as an obvious joke.

By the way, you might be a little confused. This was found in the code from an EA website, not an IGN website.

Well that is video games journalism for you, I don't listen to reviews anymore as most are paid to be positive, I buy the game and try it for myself and I form my own opinion, as for game of the year, I always pick my own, sit for a while while I remember how awesome it was and then I pat myself on the back for finishing it.

Wasn't a joke. Was an actual paragraph on the site, linking to the ign homepage.
The blame rests more with ea, but you have to wonder why they chose that verbiage. It's a legal world and you just don't go misrepresenting other organizations without:

A) repercussions.

Or

B) there being something to it.

Based on ign's response that ea used that text as "placeholder copy, it sounds much like a cover up of the latter. Professional web staff for large firms like ea don't publish copy on a live site without it having gone through a copyrighting and editing process before being approved and then published.

And no it wouldn't be a shock if that's exactly what went down.
