Worst company or worst speech? You decide!
Electronic Arts was once again voted the worst company in America for the second year in a row, according to The Consumerist. They “won” the award by the small percentage of 78%. Oh wait, that’s not small at all! So, after winning such a prestigious award, you’d like to think the people on top would try to explain themselves, right? Well, you’d be correct, and indeed, the COO of the company, Peter Moore, gave a great speech as a response.
Because I go ranting on this for a bit, you can read more about this after the break:
By “great speech” I mean he blamed everybody else. Even by shifting the blame on the company, he still never took full responsibility saying “we” instead of “I”. Frankly, I don’t think we should blame EA as much as those who are running the company into the ground. He blames homophobic people, whiny Madden fans, and everybody else in his company for the failure that he’s brought the company to.
Moore starts out fairly decent, saying something to be expected:
I’ll be the first to admit that we’ve made plenty of mistakes. These include server shut downs too early, games that didn’t meet expectations, missteps on new pricing models and most recently, severely fumbling the launch of SimCity. We owe gamers better performance than this.
He’s correct: they DO owe gamers far better performance than this. But then he said gems such as this:
In the past year, we have received thousands of emails and postcards protesting against EA for allowing players to create LGBT characters in our games. This week, we’re seeing posts on conservative web sites urging people to protest our LGBT policy by voting EA the Worst Company in America.
ADoseofBuckley of YouTube gives his thoughts on EA and SimCity:
I have no comment, but maybe you guys do?
