The bests and worsts of Nintendo, by me.

Bests:

10. Mario Party 1

Mario Party was a great idea when it came out. Over the years, Bowser has become more forgiving and easier on players.

9. Gameboy Advance SP

By the time it was released, it was well time for a lighted screen and rechargeable battery in a Nintendo handheld.

8. Super Mario RPG

Allowing Square Enix to make a Mario RPG.

7. Releasing Earthbound

Word is that they'll be releasing Earthbound (SNES) on the Wii U virtual console.

6. Gameboy Advance

The handheld had a very large library of games to be enjoyed. Many were ports, but there were also games like Golden Sun.

5. Zelda: Majora's Mask

A very weird, psychedelic Zelda game that is a breath of fresh air for the series.

4. Zelda: A Link to the Past

A fun game featuring solid gameplay and a Dark World.

3. Mario 2

An original Mario game different from others in the series, also allowing you to pick between characters.

2. Super Mario World

A solid game that was a major reason of the many reasons to own a SNES.

1. SNES

One of the things which probably falled Sega in the short run. The SNES had quality games such as Donkey Kong Country, the SNES games listed above, Super Metroid, etc.

Worsts:

5. Slow Wii U start, allowing only one Gamepad

The menu system of the Wii U was slow until a recent update, and Nintendo who should be the master of making games for their own system, hasn't made any games which would support two Gamepads, or tried to push Gamepads out, even though it's apparently possible for two Gamepads. I feel like the Wii U is limited right now by only have one.

4. Allowing Metroid Other M to be made

Mediocre-poor game. Showed Samus as a needy, dependent woman.

3. Allowing third-party developers to create Zelda CD-i

Self-explanatory.

2. Allowing the Mario movie to be made

Self-explanatory.

1. The Virtual Boy

The world and technology weren't ready for 3D. The Virtual Boy was clucky and could eat through batteries like there was no tomorrow.

I don't understand why Metroid Other M always gets ripped a new one. Sure the way they portrayed Samus sucked, but I really liked the gameplay. Sure there are some things that I didn't like, but overall I still enjoyed the game and played it multiple times.

Normally a poor-mediocre storyline can be overlooked by good gameplay, but since the game is cinematical and story-driven, it's hard to overlook the story and focus on the gameplay.

Fantastic list! I would also include the Wii launch, that was freaking amazing!

Hi, my name is Alph. I live on a planet named Koppai. I am famous for saving my planet from starvation. My best friends are Brittany and Captain Olimar, NOT Captain Charlie. I like surfing the KopNet and playing Kopetball.

I must be one of the few exceptions. Oh well.

One thing I forgot to mention, the Virtual Boy really was terrible. I consider it to be a pretty interesting part of history in terms of what people were thinking the future was supposed to be like.

I am surprised that they were the ones who made the Virtual Boy, I swear I thought it was someone else.

I agree with you. The game was amazingly fun to play. I'm not one to care for the stories in Metroid games. The gameplay was topnotch, IMO.

Zelda MM was more like a depressing breath of gloomy air. The story was so dark, to our delight. I really loved the game!

Metroid: Other M was a really good game IMO. Samus was portrayed as a dependant woman, but the story was well written and moving at times. It actually made me feel how hard it is to be always alone fighting monsters, and how she regrets leaving the federation. I think it was a necessary step in the series, a step focused on the storyline (since it was short and required button mashing). But that's my honest opinion.

Interesting post!

I loved Other M for the gameplay but the story was terrible, except for the fact of their portrayal of samus it was a 90% copy of Fusion. In Fusion Samus talks about having to follow orders once before, I didn't except that once before to be in the exact same setting; Abandoned space station, Adam Malovich and government made metroids. Also didn't mind that Adam didn't allow certain weapons being used until necessary, but I hated that you got them on completely random times and not after boss fights and such as it's supposed to be in metroid.

End Rant.
