I made the mistake of using my full last name in my ID, and so I'm not completely comfortable sharing it. I can't seem to find a way to change it without creating a new account...

If you create a new account, the only thing you're losing is your miiverse stats, and there not really that important. make a new account and use the same mii, all your saved games will still be there.

There's absolutely no way to change it. You'll have to make a new account. Hopefully in the future they'll give us an option to.

Ok. I can delete my account directly in Wii U account settings, right? And I just have to make sure I don't delete my Mii?

You can make a new one, not change it like PSN

it says it will delete my eShop account, so I lose my balance and can no longer use or redownload games I payed for!

Talked to Nintendo, they confirmed that. 

 

Pretty annoying, since games can't be transferred to another console, yet they will be deleted off the existing console if the account is removed.

 

I ended up just switching it to a different mii and deleting that mii. I can relink the account to a new mii if needed.

 

Hopefully Nintendo removes this flaw and either allows us to change out ID or unlink purchases from an ID

I think they talked about that when they released the console and that they were working on that.

Oh, goody. It appears that all of my gamesave data was linked to my account and NOT my Mii. So i still have my Mii, but I'm at square 1 on all of my games (At least the Wii U games, didn't check the old Wii games but I'm sure those are fine)

hold on... I still have everything for Little Inferno. I have to go through all of my games, as it seems some ( like scribblenaughts and fluid) lose all data but others don't

you can delete a current nintendo network id from the console and create a new one

Oh, yes, if I wanted all of my games to suddenly disappear and have to be repurchased. I called Nintendo and they said I'd have to repurchase my downloaded games, and I have already lost all of my gamesaves.

If you make a new account on your Wii U before deleting your old one, your eShop purchases will stay playable etc.

That's the only good part about Nintendo's DRM approach (purchases locked to console not account).

 

I'm not sure about your game saves, I know Nintendoland saves will be fine, because that's the only one that I own that actually outright says the save will be saved for everyone to play and not just for your account.

I talked to Nintendo, and they assured me that currently if I was to delete the Nintendo ID I used to purchase the games, thos games will become unplayable and I'd have to repurchase them
