Nintendo have announced a new model of the Wii. It looks pretty much like the current model, but I think it's a bit smaller and it's designed to sit horizontally. It doesn't seem to have any new features, but it isn't backwards compatible with Gamecube games and doesn't support GC controllers.

The current Model is also being discontinued.

There's no chance of me buying this newer model. It doesn't have any advantages over the current model, and the Wii U is just around the corner.

Does it say anything about the amount of flash memory? I wouldn't be surprised if Ninty upped it a bit, and maybe added support for SDHC.

Either way, I'm good with my current Wii. I don't mind the lack of Gamecube support (I have a working Gamecube), but I just got a new Wii back at Mario's 25th, thanks to the launch Wii being broken :P

I see it as the "economy model". Most people buying a Wii right now don't really care if it has GameCube support. I'd imagine this new econo-model would be released at a $100-130 price point.

UH. that looks like an interesting piece of hardware. I might pick one up just for recording Let's play purposes. Either that or I wait until I get the WiiU

Games that refuse to use Gameplay effectively to do anything are like films that refuse to use cinematography in film to do anything.

Probably not going to get it. I dont even know if it is coming to the US and if it is I would not buy it because I already have a Wii.

I don't think I'll ever get this.

I think the whole purpose of this model is to lower the producing cost, so they can sell more Wii(s), so that Nintendo makes more profit, hence the Nintendo select titles.

Seems to me like they're just milking the Wii as much as they still can. (Good luck -_-)
Same with the PSP, they're releasing a Wi-fi-less model soon.

NOBODY BUY THIS IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A WII! It's just the same thing, but without GCN games.

and maybe added support for SDHC.

It was already supported as of FW 4.0 I think. Might have been 4.2

Trophy Cards are classy too! LOLZIGZAGOON

They really didn't release anything on improvements, so don't expect any improvements except in the games, which is just Wii Party.

This new Wii is basically a Family Edition, because none of the casual families care about GameCube support, they just play the games like Wii Sports and Wii Play. Plus it's tinier and takes up less space.

Basically sums it up, though I expect for this to work it'll have to be significantly cheaper, $150 maybe (AUD). But I dunno, they took out the Gamecube ports, not only does that disallow GCN games, but also takes away those particular control options for certain games.

It's completely pointless, in my opinion. A bit of a downgrade to me, actually. To begin, I play a lot of GameCube titles so that would probably kill my interest for it there. Not to mention, I already own two Wiis and I prefer them standing upward, not to mention that the Wii U is coming up soon.

To bad they are removing the GameCube support. But I already have a regular Wii and 14 GameCubes so it's not that big of a deal to me.

No, the way he worded it clearly states that he owns 14 GameCube systems. Not games, systems.
