Over 1,000 Parties Interested In Developing For Wii U Since Nintendo Web Framework Announcement

Lots of indie developers want to get on board

Nintendo announced the Nintendo Web Framework during the Games Developers Conference in San Francisco in March. Essentially, it provides a method of developing software for Wii U by using open web technologies like HTML5 and JavaScript.

Since then it appears to have been a hit with small developers as more than 1,000 have registered their interest in developing games for Wii U, according to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata who was addressing analysts at the E3 analyst briefing.

That's good news. I think Nintendo made a great decision by pursing the indie market more. I am excited to see what will come of this.

When they say 1.000 indie devs have approached them, I'm pretty sure they mean that they have talked to 1,000 devs. It's good that they are getting devs interested but Nintendo needs to be careful not to overdo it.

1000 is just, wow.

eShop is going to be flooded with them! Maybe there are really good projects there that could fill some spaces like racing, adventure, shooters, RPGs. Games Wii U seriously lacks.

If i were Nintendo i would really consider a different business model: publish some like a collection; pair them with VC games both online and retail; make some part of Wii U - as a bónus; pair them with Nintendo`s own games.

I still think lots of people are not aware of VC and Indie games or are not sure about investing their money on them.

A lot of that would be crap, but might be fun to play some of that stuff on the tablet & big screen.  Would be cool to use two tablets- I'm sure it wouldn't take up that much in terms of resources for simple games like that.

Good news but I buy a console for the major game projects like Zelda, Mario and big publisher releases. I'm sure a few gems will be produced but I don't think this will shift consoles. Nintendo need major publishers producing major titles ideally exclusively.
