Hello.

First of all I want to state that I do not intend to "chip" my Wii U for the purpose of playing illegally downloaded games on it.

I recently bought Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii) from an online auction.

I failed to notice that the SSBB was for NTSC and my Wii U is PAL.

So when I tried to play the game my Wii U told me that I couldn't because it was sold in another region.

Now I wonder if there is some way to make my Wii U able to play SSBB?

Thanks in advance.

Nope.

Even if you were capable of booting the game, you would get a pretty interesting black-and-white scrolling effect.

So all I can do is sell it, then?

No, you bought the wrong game. Buy a Pal game at your local Game store. Sell that NTSC game back to where you got it from.

If you have a Wii you could possibly softmod it to play that game but... Eh. I'd see if I could just return or sell it first.

I want Wii U to be region free, and 3DS, Nintendo are the only console makers to be region locked now.

I was about to post the same thing. The Xbox One and PS4 will be region free. The PS3 and Vita are region free and the Xbox 360 is region free on a game by game basis. Nintendo's portable consoles use to be region free too. I think Nintendo is behind the time by making the Wii U and 3DS region locked.

I agree, it's completely stupid, I own the machine, it's mine, I should be able to buy and import games from other countries that maybe wern't released where I live if I want too.
