*
POPULAR

•Both are big, hulking, black machines (at least bigger than their competition)

•Both by companies that had successful machines this/last gen

•Both predecessor consoles have less-than-stellar add-ons

•Both are $100 more than their main competitor

•Both have fumbled pre-release announcements and decisions

•Both have their main competitors destined for greatness (or at least massive popularity)

Segata Sanshiro won't be here to save you, Xbone.

Can you explain why it's add-ons are less than stellar?

I can't really voice my opinion because I was young during the time Sega Saturn was released.

I hope Microsoft disappear just like Sega. Both companies are garbage.

Oh, you're forgetting a couple of huge problems that the Xbox One doesn't have.

  • The Sega Saturn was released as soon as it was announced
  • The Sega Saturn was yet another developer screw-over after the releases of the Sega 32X and Sega CD attachments for the Sega Genesis.

I'm talking about the 360's Kinect and the Sega CD/32X.

This thread is stupid for several reasons.

•Both are big, hulking, black machines (at least bigger than their competition)

•Both by companies that had successful machines this/last gen

•Both predecessor consoles have less-than-stellar add-ons

•Both are $100 more than their main competitor

•Both have fumbled pre-release announcements and decisions

•Both have their main competitors destined for greatness (or at least massive popularity)

Segata Sanshiro won't be hear to save you, Xbone.

Let me tear apart every complaint in here, minus the extent of the first one, because I can't argue that one that easily and I'm tired

  • First off, how does one define success? That's an impossible metric to define, as there's no way to easily state it. Moving on, if by successful you mean coming in last place for the 360, then sure, it's successful. For a machine that lost a LOT of money until either 2009/2010 as Microsoft was selling it at a loss and they've most likely just begun to see a profit on the console by itself, due to R&D, the whole RRoD problem, etc. If that's your definition of success, then sure, they succeeded.
  • Less then Stellar? That's true for Sega, as all their add ons fractured the user base and divided sales as developers had no idea what attachments they owned, but for Kinect? You're really going to label the one device that Microsoft has made in the past 5 years that hasn't failed miserably "Less then Stellar?" Sure, it's actual game usage has varied from decent(See Kinect Sports)  to lawsuit worthy in terms of stupidity(See Sonic/Steel Battalion), but you can't deny Kinect is perhaps the only decent in terms of popularity added by Sony/MS to really not flop.
  • I can't really argue this one, as yes it's $100 cheaper, but it has more actual stuff included in the box compared to that of PS4.
  • Fumbled? Fumbled is not the word I'd use to describe Sega's Saturn choices and Microsoft's one policies. The best phrase to use would be A cluster:Censored: However, the level of screwup is still wildly different. Sega came off of a very good previous gen before the Saturn, and they had a level of confidence. When they saw the Playstation, they were scared and acted so. Microsoft, on the other hand, came out of a generation where they finished last in terms of sales, lost power as the gen went on and Sony grew in strength, etc. Then, after watching Sony's press conference in February, they somehow decided "Let's make something only gamers will likely watch and MAKE IT ABOUT LIVE SPORTS". They then proceeded to continue to spew out about "How you get so much more with Xbox One" and how "If you don't have INTERNET, buy a 360". The best analogy is that Sega with the Saturn was a trainwreck at the start. Microsoft with the Xbox One is like watching 10 train wrecks while playing a game on your 3DS about Train wrecks while being in a train wreck.
  • Destined for Greatness? That's what people thought about the PS3 and look where that got them. Alternatively, people thought the Wii was going to Bomba harder then the Death Star and look where that got them.

Anyways, as said at the top, this thread is stupid. To compare the two is like comparing a moldy mango with a moldy Apple. Yes, both have mold, but the more you look at them the more you realize one is full of worms and the other is full of flies and any comparisons between the two's skins is stupid.

I think it won't go the same way. Video Games was Sega's entire business so the Saturn basically bankrupted them. Gaming accounts for only part of Microsoft's business, so they can afford to throw money at the One until it succeeds.

Xbone is supposed to be the one gadget that does everything.  But what happens when Apple integrates everything with iTV?  Won't it be cool to use your iPad like a nintendo game pad?  IMO Apple will be MSFT's real competition here.

No is the answer. Xbox One will do well, sadly. It may not be number one. I honestly think ot could be past in terms of sales. But I think all systems will sell 70m+ units this generation. Which you can't consider those numbers a failure of you reach that number.

This. You guys somehow think the Xbox One won't do well, but I'm sorry to say, it will do very well. Look at the number of xbox360 owners. Almost all of them will buy an Xbox One. Look at iPhones. People who already have a working iPhone will buy the newest iPhone just because it's an iPhone and it's new. The Xbox One will be the same way for millions of people.

Microsoft has been making a lot of mistakes lately, i.e. Windows 8 and Windows Phone but unfortunately they're still rich enough that they can afford all these mistakes, even if the Xbox One comes out last in this next gen. And as much as I'd like to see M$ go down, the Xbox One will probably sell reasonably enough.

Exactly. Even though there are 360 lovers abandoning the X1, it will do just fine because most users will suck it up and buy it.

I won't lol but I don't have a 360 currently and I didn't love it when I did.

I'm sorry, as a Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 customer, there have been mistakes sure - but nothing as bad as Xbox One. Every mistake has been corrected. Windows 8 is fast, responsive, user friendly and lets Windows be a tablet. Plus, it's actually not hard to navigate with a mouse and scroll wheel. As a Ubuntu and Mac user, I prefer Windows 8 heads over heels over the other choices.

And Windows Phone 8 is powerful, user friendly, a lot of functionality all built in. Which I like. Less apps to buy or search for the better.

Anyway ... Sorry for being off topic.
