What are your opinions on roms do you think you shouldn't use them at all, only if you have the game, or download whatever you want to

because recently I just had this weird urge to play smash bros melee and my wii wasn't hooked up nor my gamecube so I just thought it would be easier to rom it and to clarify I own smash bros melee and now I'm just downloading all the games I owned for the gamecube and playing them with a 360 controller on my laptop so what do you think should we stop romming all together ,or should if we own it be able to rom the game, or should we just download any of the games we want?

Pretty sure this is illegal, unless you own a physical copy of the game or can show proof that you've purchased once before.

I used to download roms all the time though....

ROMs and emulation is a bit of a touchy subject, but I really don't see the harm in it myself. If the game itself is long dead and there's no way the companies who made it can make any sort of money from it, go for it.

If you own the game, then feel free to download the rom

If you don't own the game, then don't download the rom, otherwise you are committing piracy.

But this is the internet, people just don't care about the people who make games and will download and rob any game they please because they know they won't get caught.

or can show proof that you've purchased once before.

That would mean i could buy a game, sell it to a friend and keep the recite saying i bought the game, if you sold the game it means you don't own it, thus downloading a rom would be illegal

I've been thinking about this myself lately if I ever had to stop console gaming. If I remember correctly, emulators are totally legal. Plenty of companies use them. However, downloading/playing ROMs is illegal. I understand why, and I hate piracy, but I know one of these days I'm gonna get a smartphone and one of the things I'll look at is how many emulators it can run and how well it plays those games. Definitely a touchy subject.

Some people always have a cellphone on them. I'm so awesome I always have a 3DS.

Rom/Emulator discussion is not allowed here.
