This means the entire screen is by necessity a touchscreen, with the upper screen protected by a layer of plastic that sits above it.”
I am a little surprised that it's cheaper, but I suppose the unused pixels cost lest then a separate data link.

The whole thing is a touch screen one is just protected by plastic. It does seem like a waste of money, but they're the ones that know what costs them more so I can't really argue.

Couldn't get to the sight BC of my tab. Is this still 3d?
No it's not 3D capable at all. It's all one big 2D touchscreen.

Little bit of a back step lol. Wonder if they are thinking on making it compatable with the wiiu?

That's the exact point of it. It's a cheap "Entry Level System" for kids 7 and under (to put parents at ease about the 3D eye damage stuff). Nintendo wants those who buy this to upgrade to the fully featured system. They made it to where you'll want to eventually upgrade.
That would be great if they were, but it doesn't seem likely.

Hmm im not too sure about this... Wasn't there a parental controlled for the 3d aspect? It seems like a big waste of money. It might work for those who want to play tue games but don't have the money for a 3ds... I suppose it could work but somethings telling me it probably won't.

It's literally what they said in the promo video. Yes there is a parental control for 3D but current parents are also idiots most of the time when it comes to tech stuff. The name it'self is going to confuse the masses, but that's one of the things Nintendo seems to be really good at doing.

If you already own a 3DS, then there is no point in purchasing the 2DS. If you want a 3DS but don't want to spend a whole lot of money for 3D features you won't use, get the 2DS for cheaper, same library of games, and 2D only.

resistive touch screens work by just having an underlay screen, or overlay, whatever. The whole thing is a touch screen one is just protected by plastic. It does seem like a waste of money, but they're the ones that know what costs them more so I can't really argue.
The touch sensitivity is measured by the pocket of air between the two screens.
So, they could throw an overlay on the bottom half of the larger screen, and not effect the top half of the same screen at all.
