would someone give me a simple explanation of teraflops or gigaflops or what does flops exactly mean

basically it means calculations per second.

The acronym means floating point operations per second.

 

Gigaflops just means 10⁹ flops, teraflops means 10¹² flops, etc etc.

 

Most modern PC graphics cards have between 1.4 to 3.8 teraflops of performance, though of course supercomputers are sitting in the realm of the petaflops.
