Nope, it's a tv-hooked console. The controller itself is portable in the sense that you can move it around your house (Or possibly bring it to a friend's house and use it on their Wii U system), but it only works within a certain distance from the console itself.

No, the Wii U is meant for living room play when a parent or roomate or whatever comes to take over the TV. You could probably put the console in a backpack and hook it up to a huge battery but I can't imagine anyone attempting that.

P.S: I notice your new so I'd just like to say welcome and if you ever have questions about the Wii U you could always google it or ask in your status via the drop out menu that displays your name on the top right if the page. Enjoy the forums

As far as I know it isn't, as the "game" is streamed to the tablet and not on the tablet...

No, but yes. You can carry it, like.... 20 feet away? Maybe in your bed if the TV is near.

The practical uses of the remote play include:
*Dad's watching football. Best not to argue.
*Mum's making your sandwich. Better make sure she gets it right. (No really, the last time she made me a sandwich was when I was 8, and there was some nasty stuff on it)
*No need to hold in the pee because of a climactic cinematic.
*Haunted TV Screen!
*Who cares if I'm upside down on the lounge?
