We all know that one day Nintendo will start developing a successor to the 3DS. In fact, Miyamoto himself stated that they have already started thinking about it.

http://news.cnet.com...-3ds-successor/

So, let's speculate a bit.

First thing - the 3DS is, beyond any doubts, going to stick around for another 3-4, maybe even 5 years. The system has been selling like hot cakes ever since its price cut in August 2011. Huge success for Nintendo ! With that, it's been almost 3 years since the system launched and I think at this point we can start wondering about what the future of Nintendo handhelds holds.

Now, Nintendo, in my opinion, is the most unpredictable company in the market, which makes it hard to guess what ideas they might come up with. However, what we can do here is to discuss what we want it to be as potential consumers. What kind of a device you want it to be ?

I think there's a thread already, but it's old and search is a pain. Iirc there were requests for: built in right joystick, better battery life, higher resolution screens, and maybe even analogue triggers.

I'm not going to bother speculating on the gimmick, because it is almost always something we were not expecting yet makes perfect sense.

Something a bit like the gamepad but portable, and capable of graphics on par or better than the Wii U. Not sure if they'll keep the clamshell design, or the multiple screens when it's cheaper to have one large touch screen (as we've seen with the 2DS).

- Keep the two screens

- Pretty much all the stuff graham suggested

- Make it comfortable to hold (Not to say the 3DS isn't, this is just a general thing)

- Please, no more region locking (Pipe dream, I know)

- You're so money and you don't even know it!

- D-Dude, don't get me wrong, okay? It's just guy love, right? Between two guys?

Better graphics, 2 circle pads, more games.

All I really want.

Two screens or one mind blowing vibrant screen

Probably clamshell design

Multiple colours

Still cartridge based media, but with incentives on the e-store to buy online ( Like getting the game a week earlier than in stores)

Two Circle sliders, or maybe actual analog sticks that click?

An account based system

Back to a longer battery life. Not saying 12 hours, but 4-5 hours for a handheld is pretty weak.

No continuation of the DS based named.

That's what I'm thinking- plus I think it should have some tablet functionality, like the ability to run Android apps or something like that.  By the time they come out with it, resources to support two OS shouldn't be a big deal at all, plus Nintendo already partners with Google on Maps

Absolutely not. Nintendo has always been about gaming and will always be. We have plenty of consoles where gaming is anafterthought.

I`m hoping that Nintendo will integrate both lines of HW and make the next handheld work as a gamepad for the next home console, thus allowing to play games on TV, buy a cheaper Wii U 2 SKU (way cheaper!) and allow for starting a game at house and taking it with you (saves included) and vice-versa, of course.

Crossing my fingers!
