Project Cars dev "Wii U more than capable" for the game

Slightly Mad's Andy Tudor says Wii U version is "extremely promising"

Project CARS is a unique game in more ways than one. A rival to the likes of Gran Turismo and Forza, the racer has been crowd-funded and is being developed with the assistance of more than 35,000 backers. Alongside Kickstarter, Slightly Mad's Worlds of Mass Development platform could revolutionise the way games make their way to market — and that makes Project CARS one to watch.

The studio — which has previously worked on the Need for Speed: Shift and Test Drive franchises — has always insisted that the Wii U port of the game would live up to the promise of the other editions. However, with the recent news that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions had been dropped in favour of focusing on the PS4 and Xbox One, some Nintendo fans were rightly concerned that the same thing might happen to the Wii U edition. Thankfully, Slightly Mad's Creative Director Andy Tudor has moved to calm such fears.

Speaking to Red Bull, Tudor said:

The Wii U is more than capable of providing the core Project CARS experience. Sure, some super-high-level graphical effects may not be possible but in comparison it also offers a unique interaction experience via the GamePad controller, with the second screen potentially becoming your track map overview, rear-view mirror, telemetry, or simply mimicking a real race car steering wheel whilst you use the gyroscope to drive.

Plus there are great possibilities to extend our existing WMD community into the Mii Community with discussion and sharing of content and ideas. There’s no realistic racing game on the Wii U currently yet, and we hear the fans crying out for one. Project CARS provides a Forza or Gran Turismo-like experience for those gamers and it’ll be something to really show off what the system is capable of. From our internal playing, it’s looking extremely promising.

because racing lovers can get the same game on 299$ Wii U instead Of 399$ and 499$ ps4 and xbox one

Lets hope they really show this. As much as i'd like the all sparkles pc version I'm very up for buying this on WiiU so please show everyone how good this can be!

Hard for me to get my hopes up. It just seems like most 3rd party games have underperformed on this console. I will still probably buy it even if it is just decent. If I am Nintendo I am sending my tech specialist who designed WiiU over to these guys to teach them the ends and outs of the system. Make sure this title actually performs well.

Its never been the system its been the devs.

 

If this comes out it should shake up some things and let all the devs know that great things can come from the wii u

 

We hope but things just dont look good. Shin'en has been the only one tat has talked positive about this hardware "POST LAUNCH". there were developers here and there saying good things pre launch but i knew all that would dry up when ps4 and xb1 launched. The reality is no one care developers are gonna be more happier with their xb1 and ps4 to talk tech and power. Wii U is again (following Wii) the read headed step child of the gaming world that no one cares about.

This is a day one purchase for me and means that I don't have to shell out £429.99 for an Xbox One to play Forza Motorsport 5. Result!

so wiiU CPU is more than strong enough but GPU just pulls through while X1 is apparently doing fine graphicly but has alot of CPU bottlenecks.

I fully believe that Project Cars will be an excellent game and that the Developer will do as much as possible to have unique WiiU things and maximized performance. 

 

But...

 

The main reason that this game might end up being not as great as the other version is....analoque input. 

When racing a sim-esque racing game all things get considered as important, like tire-deformation, aerodynimica, and so on. Yet knowing when to brake...and how much, when to accelerate....and how much, or for some corners only a little bit of lifting. I don't believe the WiiU controllers are up to that task, neither is the pro-controller. :(


What the world needs is more geniuses with humility, there are so few of us left

It's nice to hear a dev be honest about the Wii U hardware, and even nicer that it seems like they're actually going to try and make a game that pushed the wii u instead of a crappy port :D
