Even Ice Cube appears uninterested by the one note he’s needed to play as the directly man, delivering his lines with all the power of a damp dishrag. James is presumed to be coolinginging and assured, but the presentation arrives off as apathetic, like he barely cares enough to get out of bed every morning. His indifference is understandable, granted that James actually isn’t a feature as much as a purposeful type that can go from “irritable hardass” to “understanding ally” in the span of meagre minutes, but that doesn’t make the movie any less sore to sit through.
