Hey everyone I need a little help. I bought my kids a Wii U for Christmas and I am wonder are the remotes that came with the Wii compatible with the Wii U. I was able to get the controller to pair to the Wii U but it won't do much else. They are currently playing the Lego movie game and the on screen instructions say to push the + to join but when I so nothing happens. I am however able to access the menu with the controller but for some reason I can get the controller to join the game. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The wii mote work with the wii u but a lot of games don't use them.

Your need to get a pro controller. Look at the back of the game case and it will tell you what controls will work.

yeah xile6 is correct, Some games need more than the buttons provided by the wiimote. Check the back of the box, it will problably say that Pro contollers are needed.

 

It might also support Classic controllers (you might have some from your original Wii) and wiimote+nunchuck combos, but I don't know. I wasn't even aware they made this game, now i want to get it. I loved LC:U but I never really played the classic lego games.

You won't regret having a Pro controller around. It's pretty nice for a lot of games.

Pro controllers are utterly useless.
If you're not a gamer who's too ogre to use the gamepad, then there's no point in wasting your money on it.

You need to sync up your old wiimotes to the new console, there's a red sync button under the battery cover and one under the sd card area of the console, while it's on press both of those a few seconds of each other.
The leds will blink, and eventually stay solid on 1 light either first,second,third, etc. to show which "player" you are.
If they're not motion plus wiimotes, I'd suggest looking into either the adapters for your current wiimotes, or buying motion plus wiimotes to use instead.
Those will be the more used control scheme for games where you won't or can't use the gamepad, for example most multiplayer games.

I checked the back of the box and the game does support the pro controller, but my problem was the game required the nunchuck I plugged it in and problem solved! Thanks for all the advice. And P.S. I know how to sync the remotes.
