Nintendo has a pattern I find it repeating in terms of it's console. I've noticed that Nintendo likes to innovate then expand on power with innovation. It did that with the NES which was innovative during it's time with the plus control pad new take in platform style gaming then Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) gave us 16 bit first but the SNES was a power house in terms of grahics in the 90's and trumped a lot of MD games in terms of grahics plus brought us some fancy mode7 fx for some psuedo 3D. Then Nintendo moves fully to 3D gaming and introduces analog control and later down the road rumble. Nintendo was inovating with the N64 bringing us some industry firsts for console gaming and game play for that time. When GCN came along it was all about competing directly with the competetion so nintendo's focus were once again back on the graphics and the GCN did give us some great looking games that still look good today (Rouge Leader & RE4 I'm looking at you) it main focus was to compete with the PS2 but a thrid horse entered the competition that Nintendo wasn't counting on to succeed. With the Wii Nintedo once again took the route of innovation and gave us a new way to play games and bring gaming to the masses so we can have mom, dad, and the grandparents playing along too while bringing back intrest back on their products. Now we are in the last days of the Wii waiting for the Wii U and it appears Nintendo is ready to compete again. I believe Nintendo is going to have some serious power under the hood of the Wii U and if not on par being first out the gate it will probably be close to the newer systems on the way from Sony and Microsoft in terms of graphics. I believe that Wii U is going to give us some emersive and deep gaming experiences and can't wait to see what this system can so when in the right hands of some of the world's best developers. What are Your Thoughts and Predictions?

i agree with you all the way. people seem to get offended that nintendo might be going after the hardcore with this console. even nintendo said the Wii and Wii U will co-exist for a while. i see the wii still pushing casual games( lets dance, cooking mama) while Wii U will be for the hardcore mature nintendo gamer. I'm so ready you guys dont even know. day one i will be in line waiting on my Wii U. only thing is nintendo "CAN'T" mess up this launch. they have to launch major first ( f-zero, star fox, pikmin) and third party (grand theft auto, battlefield 4, street fighter vs tekken) games that show off the controller capabilities and the power( graphics that cant be achieved on ps360) thats my opinion.

I've never noticed that pattern before... But I think you might be on to something. Now that I think about it, Nintendo has always made consoles in a sort of set. GB -> GBA, NES -> Snes, DS -> 3DS, N64 -> GCN and now Wii -> Wii U. Like you said, they all seem to do something somewhat innovative, and then perfect it. Portable Gaming -> Color Portable gaming, Industry Saving console -> Industry Expanding Console, Touch Screen gameplay -> 3D screen gameplay and Analog Controller -> Best controller ever made (IMO). These only summarize the main points of each one, but there are many more examples, such as the blocky 3D -> Smooth 3D that you pointed out for the N64/GCN.

The way I see it we are now moving from 'Motion Control as the main control scheme' to 'all control schemes being equal'. Alongside that we're moving from the SD -> HD, though that's not so much a part of the set as it is a part of the industry. But due to those we can see other enhancements; devs on a budget -> devs on any budget, down ports -> up ports, experimentation as a necessity -> experimentation only where it fits...

People say the 'Wii' in the 'Wii U' will ruin the game, but now I see that it will raise it up as much as the 'NES' in 'SNES' did. Thanks for bringing up that pattern; I can only see deep experiences in the U's future now :)

im also gonna be there for the midnight launch of wii u :D but about the launch titles, as we have discussed in another post, gta 5 will hopefully come to wii u but not at launch since rockstar said they want to see how well its sells first. secondly about casual on wii and hard core on wii u, theyre still going to have a lot of casual on wii u, along side the hard core :) reggie said theyre going to keep providing games for women and people over 50 years old on wii u, its not at all an issue (i hope) but just dont expect the shelves to be totally casual free. battlefield 4 i doubt to be released next year at all so dont expect that but still there are atleast 23 games already announced for wii u :D im not worried about launch line up and youre right, f zero would be a fantastic launch title. iwata said himself that they learned a "bitter lesson with 3ds" (launch title wise) im sure the first party awesomeness will be there along with AC3 and mass effect 3 and darksiders2 etc :)

i disagree. you cant expect a person that has a ps360 to buy all these games if they get a wii u when they already played the experience. they need something new and something that going to make a gamer want to buy a wii u. even i wont buy those games and i only have a wii. will the controller integration and updated graphics(maybe!) be worth it?

Best Possible Scenario

When the XBOX, PS2, & GCN were out, multiplatform games were developed using the PS2 as the base console from which to port to the other platforms. The PS2 was the least powerful of the three; however, that did not hinder the development of those multiplatform games.

Currently, the 360, PS3, & Wii are out. Multiplatform games are developed using the 360 as the base console from which to port to the other platforms. However, the Wii does not receive most of these multiplatform games because the hardware is not powerful enough run them without significantly changing the games. The 360 is less powerful than the PS3; however, that does not hinder the development of those multiplatform games. Actually, many of the ports look or play better on the 360 than they do on the PS3 because they are better optimized for the base console that they are developed on.

When the Wii U comes out, multiplatform games will continue to be developed using the 360 as the base console from which to port to the other platforms. However, the Wii U will receive the best versions of those multiplatform games because of additional features that will be added to take advantage of the new controller. Also, do to the touted similarities with and ease of porting from the 360 to the Wii U, the performance problems that the PS3 ports would have will be replaced by performance enhancements for the Wii U such as running in native 1080p and at a solid 60fps rate.

When the Wii U, XBOXTEN, & PS4 are out, multiplatform games will be developed using the Wii U as the base console from which to port to the other platforms. The Wii U will be the least powerful of the three; however, that will not hinder the development of those multiplatform games. Likely, many of the ports will look or play better on the Wii U than on the other platforms because they will be better optimized for the base console that they will be developed on.

im sorry in advance because im about about to sound like an A$$. did nintendo confirm that the next-gen multiplatform titles will use Wii U as base console. its hard for me to imagine that Nintendo going from a company that didnt get multiplatform titles(Wii im looking at you) to a company that developers use as the base to build their games on. you have to remember ps1 sold 100 million consoles... there is a reason developers wanted to use PS2 as their base console. saying all of that if nintendo pulls it off good on them.

Ok... First off, Nintendo doesn't confirm anything of this sort. This isn't even a confirm-able thing; It's just something that happens.
(First and a half: DS gets many MANY third-party games; It's the Wii, not Nintendo.)

Secondly, as stated in Hyawatta's post, the Wii didn't get muliplats because it was too much weaker than the other consoles.

Thirdly, the Wii has sold around same amount that the the PS1 had shipped when the PS2 came out (~80 M).

So... Uhh.... Yeah. Nice post Hyawatta :)

nice try! but i doubt third party developers are going to just all of a sudden make Wii u their base console. the point i was trying to make about the ps1 selling 100 million console is they did it with hardcore titles also. yes Wii sold a lot but name me one hardcore title by a third party developer on the Wii that sold more than 2-3 million copies?

point is nintendo console are still looked upon as family friendly. third party developers arent going to just jump aboard unless nintendo convinces them that they are going after the hardcore gamers and will put the time and money into making it work. you guys really are funny to me.

PS1 was a huge shovelware console. The fact that it was cheap to make games and the CD format had just come into use made the console a LOT worse than the Wii is.

And as for games...
http://vsrecommendedgames.wikia.com/wiki/Wii

(Note that it is impossible to obtain sales numbers for any game that a developer has not released sales numbers for. No, VGchartz is not accurate. Unless you call Arc Rise Fantasia selling 100k copies accurate. What's so odd about that? It sold that a week before it was released.)

I think Nintendo is trying to change it up a bit by providing both power AND innovation.

We will see! I love the idea behind the controller. We know it will have power but how much? The reality is there is so much still not know about the console. That is in part to nintendo showing at E3. They kinda left us hanging. If they were gonna show off a console with no games running and no hardware information... They should have just left the controller and console behing a glass display and left us guessing.

Just to make a point of that last bit; while Nintendo plan to make a release for the Wii U rather 'early' (considering the general public aren't expecting new leaps quite yet) it may not be as such of a surprise to people, as it feels like Nintendo are over-due to make their name heard amongst 'all audiences', including avid gamers, once again. I like how this could trump Sony and Microsoft. It seems like they need to save money, releasing new consoles that won't be a huge leap in performance...will the Wii U make them spend more and more on boasting much bigger hardware, potentially losing them profit on a release price? They can't make the same mistakes again, and if the Wii U really is a powerhouse, then they could be forced to out-power it for their 'set' audience. Time will tell I'm sure!
BANGIN!

My body is ready. ^_^
