Jim Ryan of Sony Computer Entertainment has said that "I think we would consider it undesirable to be significantly later than the competition [with the next PlayStation]."
This is interesting simply because the biggest advantage the Wii U has is an earlier time frame for release. It'll need to hold its own in other ways for long-term success, but launches are bumpy for all consoles, so the Wii U arriving a year or two earlier could be the aspect that swings the success in Nintendo's favour.
But in that same way, if the PS4 or the Xbox 720 launch earlier than expected, then that just makes everything that bit much more trickier.
