I recently received a Wii U, but do not have a TV in my apartment, and have no intention of buying one.

I found out, however, that it is possible to connect the console to a PC monitor through a HDMI cable.

The problem with this approach, was that you need a PC monitor with speakers in order to hear game audio. I`m not sure if my monitor has that, so I have two questions in that regard.

I know Wii U headphones exist, ("Ear Force"? "Turtle Beach"?), that are to be connected directly to the controller. Will this be sufficient?

Failing that; is it possible to connect regular speakers to the Wii U, itself?

Thanks in advance.

First you need to make sure your HDMI port is HDMI IN (and it should also be out, but thats not inportant for your doing I think.). I guess you'll need speakers on/conneceted to your moniter, but headphones will work. I'm not sure if its because I use generic cheap headphones (the $4-$10 panasonic/sony/ect in ears), but the sound out of the gamepad with headphones, in my experience has been quite. Not sure if the actual ones make a difference.

you can buy rca cables for the wii u (same as the wii) and hook them up to speakers with av to auxiliary cable
or you can jsut go all out and get a surround sound system that accepts hdmi
