The Nintendo 3DS handheld may very well be used as a Wii U controller for the upcoming Super Smash Bros.

This possible functionality was discovered by Twitter user Kyle McLain, who tweeted the following photo, along with the message "Am I crazy, or does this say that if you connect your 3DS with your Wii U, that you can use your 3DS as a controller?" The top screen does indeed say "Connect to Wii U" and "Connect the 3DS to the Wii U to use your customized characters and use the 3DS as a controller."

It would be very smart to.
It would be damn great if you could do a type of remote play on the 3ds while battling others and see all the action on the 3ds screen.
It's be super damn great if the game had battle over Internet.

But we won't know for sure until the game is released.

It makes sense for the ability to use as a controller for Smash Wii U. Those getting smash 3ds and the wii u version (will be aplenty) will already be accustom to using the 3ds. So it could lend itself to being a comfortable control solution for them.

It would also make sense with Amiibo since both hardware devices (in short time) will be using amiibo in smash. This way you could build up your character on your 3ds, and then use the stats from that character in the Wii U version.

Nice feature for people getting the 3DS version first and are already used to the controls. I might use it for the novelty once or twice, but I'll stick with the GameCube controller.

Well you know smash Bro have always been about the controls lol.
But really the more they make them the more controls you can play with.
Adding the 3ds just follows that trend.

My 3DS's joystick is already a little warped, I'm afraid it wont hold up to the stress of Smash. I dont know if I'll use this feature much.

Mine now has the rubber thing on the circle pad coming off D:

 

It started yesterday when I was playing smash bros...

 

I was thinking of using super glue, but I'm afraid that will either burn the rubber, or glue the stick and prevent it from ever moving again...

All I have is my original Aqua Blue 3DS... one of the ambassedor ones... I would get an XL, but since that the new 3DS models will be out soon I could wait, but by the time that comes out everyone will already be a smash bros master...
