Sega’s speedy blue hedgehog is dashing onto Wii U and 3DS in November with two different titles. Sonic Boom is a new take on the hedgehog that focuses on teamwork among four playable characters. In a new video, we learn more about the gameplay and the connection to the Wii U version.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric on Wii U (under development at Big Red Button) is a completely different game than Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal on 3DS. Sanzaru, which handled Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and the HD ports of older titles, is leveraging its platforming experience for the handheld version.

Both games are coming on November 11, and progress in the handheld version will unlock things in the Wii U title.

Didn't know about this.. and I don't think Lost World did this.

From Amazon 3ds Shattered Crystal description:

  • Sticks Joins The Team - Switch between four unique characters, including a new member of the team Sticks with her new boomerang
  • Enerbeam - Multi-purposed device used to fight enemies, traverse the environment and slingshot between the foreground and background areas
  • Exploration-Based Environments - Levels are packed full of secrets, and will open up further for more exploration and replayability as you progress each character's unique and upgradable moves
  • Stage Variety - Not just a story mode, but boss battles, rival races, special stages and more
  • Nintendo 3DS Features - StreetPass collectibles mini-game and PLUS: Unique collectibles featured in the Nintendo 3DS version will unlock special content on the Wii U version via Wi-Fi connectivity.

Well, the 3ds looked the most polished from the get go but the last video of Sonic Boom looked as if some things came together. I think the "camera" issue was ironed out, comparing the e3 footage to the newest footage it seems as though the camera keeps up and doesn't appear to be so jerky. Graphics look fine.

I have posted more info in OP.

Yes, I always did think the 3DS one looked better. The colours seem brighter or something, and the art style isn't quite strong enough for a large HD screen IMO.

That's a cool idea.

I wonder if the game is going to be mentioned in the next ND - which i hope will happen soon.
