I might have OCD when it comes to having a perfect display but in reality there is no such thing as a perfect TV. I have been through 5 TV's and 3 monitors this year as all had noticable problems.

if you look hard enough at your TV you will find a problem or two and once you notice it (in my case anyway) it's too difficult to ignore. So if you ar reading this then be warned, defects in a TV you thought were fine cannot be unseen.

So what am I talking about exactly? Clouding, banding, dead pixels, DSE (dirty screen effect when panning camera) and motion blur. Input lag is important too. Sound not so much as that can be remedied with a good surround sound.

It annoys me when I'm playing a game with nice graphics and the TV itself is ruining it, like Zelda Wind Waker HD for example which has large areas of bold colour. Cheap panels will be exposed here with DSE, clouding and uneven backilght.

My experience has been with mid range and some budget LED/LCD sets by LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Sony and Toshiba. I now have an old 46'' Sony Bravia and solely for gaming a 40'' Sony Bravia R4 which has almost none of the above problems I have witnessed with other sets, I love it.

I know people out there won't care as much but you are letting the manufacturers win as they will continue to take your money and expect you to put up with these defects when you shouldn't. Plasma is on it's way out so when OLED becomes affordable everyone will be in for a treat.

My experience:

I had a pretty good LCD screen and I bought a LED to replace it, when the LED technology was still "new". I took the LED back due to poor quality. But nowadays, I find ANY LED looks betters than just about any LCD of old.

Flame away.

I loved every Samsung I bought.

I have one that is 40inches I got in 2012. It's great. Bought my mom a 22 inch TV and it looks great. Brother bought her a 32inch Samsung and it's fantastic. Only the 32 inch is LED

Only my PC monitor isa 22inch  HP 1080P LED and it's fine.

The only time I've notied input lag was playing smash on any LCD, LED, PLASMA... basically anything that wasn't a CRT.

Yep, there are a lot of tests made for this (google "best lcd for gaming"). Most modern lcd:s also have a "gaming mode", where most post-processing to make the picture prettier is bypassed to get a significantly shorter response time.
