Can anybody tell me how to do this.
I have my nintendo id tied to my 3ds XL and the WiiU. Yesterday I ordered the New 3ds and now I am wondering how I can transfer my account to that system. Or can I tie my account to more 3ds systems.
If so, can I download games on both systems?
Last one:
My wife will keep on playing on the old 3ds. Are her savefiles safe?

As I understand it, your NNID can only be on 1 Wii U and 1 3ds. But you can transfer your NNID/Content/Licenses to a new (target) system if you wish.
Check out the Nintendo Support page, that will tell you everything you need to know. If you should require more instruction, I would recommend giving Nintendo a phone call.

Everything transfers to the target 3ds, and the old 3ds is restored to factory settings if I can remember correctly.
Her old save files are only safe if they're saved on the cartridge itself.
