Maybe it's just because of the larger install base but I'm pretty surprised a new IP like splatoon was able to outsell 3d world in it's opening week.

Nice to see it's doing so well.

I agree and I also think Nintendo was more reserved when promoting SM3DW. The commercials specifically were very few and didn't run long.

See Nintendo, this is what happens when you actually advertise your new games.

Splatoon is really a surprise.
It seems that japanese gamers aren't so opposed to shooters after all.

Really hope that it keeps selling well over time.

Update, Splatoon's sell through rate in Japan:

Now, Media Create has released some updated information regarding Splatoon’s sell-through rate. In its first four days on sale, Splatoon sold more than 97% of its shipped stock. In fact, Splatoon’s sell-through rate was even higher than that of Pokemon Diamond.

The Splatoon amiibo also had massive success in Japan. With more than 105,000 Splatoon amiibo sold, there was a sell-through rate higher than 90%.

Wow more than 3D World is a surprise. Congrats on creating a successful new IP Nintendo. You should try it more often.
