Yes, really this time...
I got myself the Batman Limited Edition PS4, and I know I paid $50 for a dark silver paint job, but I DO like Batman, so other than swapping out the faceplate with a friend to complete its Batman-ization, it's a nice touch. It doesn't match the rest of my systems, and I actually WANTED white, but it was too early to get one at the time since it was a Destiny bundle, and I already had Destiny on the Xbox One.
While my review of Arkham Knight doesn't post until next week, I will say that it's been a great game! It's a great game to have bundled with the system, to be honest, and I feel like Microsoft missed out on nabbing marketing rights to an Arkham Knight Xbox One bundle! But moving on about the system...
Battery life on the DS4 controller is BAD. I'm getting 7 hours approximately per full charge. My Wii U Gamepad, though it has an extended battery pack inside, gets 10.5 hours (not to mention the Pro controller gets a whopping 75 hours for me!). My Xbox One controller gets 25 hours off the official battery pack, and that includes headset use (20 hours on AAs)! While someone might say, "but 7 hours is enough for a gaming session!", the issue is that if you DON'T charge it from the last time you played, it may just end up dying on you this time, and instead of being able to charge it with a nice long cable, the cable is too short unless you sit close to a smaller TV! Ugh, I didn't expect the controller battery life to be THIS bad! "Buy a second controller!" is NOT a proper solution here to battery life! I even turned off the speaker and dimmed the tracker light (which still has NO way to be turned off, ugh...).
In terms of performance, it's definitely the quietest at idle, but the loudest of the three at full throttle. The Xbox One and Wii U run their fans at 100% at all times, and while the PS4 enjoys near-perfect silence at idle loads, it's definitely noticeable at medium game volumes even with my mini home theatre setup. I've got several exclusives I bought on clearance supposedly arriving at my door tomorrow, so we'll have to see what kind of overall game experiences I get and how well the controller performs over lots of various uses (FPS, racing, adventure, etc.). Since I've only used it for Arkham Knight, my synopsis of the controller has not reached a final consensus. It's the LEAST comfortable of the 3 controllers (hence why I got the Xbox One first), and has the LEAST battery life, but I will say that it is MILES above the DS3! As a PS2 and PS3 past owner, the DS2 and DS3 were both awful, and no matter how many hundreds of hours of play and getting comfortable with them, the DS3 was such a disappointment being essentially an updated DS2. Now I understand why Sony fans think the DS4 is the best controller in the world: if you came from a DS3, it is some sort of ergonomic MIRACLE! Hahaha xD
TL;DR - Got a shiny limited Batman Edition, DS4 battery life is awful no matter what your solution is, and it's the quietest and noisiest console of the three!
OH YEA! You can add me on PSN if you want: ZyroXZ2
Just thought I'd throw some thoughts out there so far. I'll do a proper comparison and shakedown after I own it for 6 months, but until then, here's the intro to its segment on my channel!
