It's like they took Vanquish and mixed it with late 80's to mid 90's lower budget action movies so bad they are awesome into one over the top game.

A good chunk of the "previewers" played the game poorly, this is what I thought when watching the videos initially and then it was confirmed by Itagaki . He made exactly the same comments I was thinking on his facebook page a handful of days ago. You can't treat this game just as shooter, there are a good number of mechanics that were either not used properly or not used at all.

Normally those kind of comments from Devs are poor excuses and maybe he reacted out of defense. That said He might be right but not sure yet. Many reviewers and such often don't know how to review action games. I have seen some treat this game like Ninja Gaiden and others treat it as a shooter when it's a mix. Then I think how Ninja Gaiden series and Bayonetta done good enough but still do not sell as much as they should for how deep and amazing the combat is. The gameplay is top notch.
Games like God of War are so overly simple they are dumb but KEWL lookin. I mean this is a series with combat puzzles which in itself makes the game less accessible than one might think. Screw combat puzzles like really. Move this block here comes an enemy,ok kill that enemy now push the block again, koooool another enemy. I can deal with the push block or hit switch era like on Ninja Gaiden 1 or Devil May Cry that was popular in the PS2 era. They space them out and actual puzzles. Fighting DURING a puzzle is BS esp when insipid. Move this thing really slowly while these things attack you. That's what DMC or NG1 or heck Bayonetta did well is it gives you breaks.
So we have one series praised and popular with a terrible protagonist who at first seems sad for such tragedy inflicted upon him, next thing you know he's in a whorehouse and killing innocents, yeah great guy. You mash the circle button over and over til a QTE.
Castlevania Lament of Innocense was a better version of the GOW combat before GOW existed. It was called a terrible game yet GOW ripped the game off and made it worse. Erm ok. So the point? GOW is actually a bad action series in general.
Platimum makes the best ones but they do not sell that great. DMC was great but they decided to dumb it down with a reboot where the combat is simpler and well recieved rave reviews when DMC4 has miles better combat and was met with lukewarm responses.
Sorry long post. It just feels more often that easier more accessible but not really better games are praised. People or reviewers as a general rule don't get action games. Previews of evils Third sound like they don't get it. Now without playing it the concerns could be totally legit. Just for the reasons I stated is why I am taking them for the time being with a grain of salt.

Looks like fun, and that's what matters. I love b-tier action games.
It looks really good. I honestly can't see where the previewers have decided this game is bad. I'll wait for more people's opinions before making up my own mind.
They weren't playing the game right, I'm being serious. They were obviously playing on causal and they weren't even trying to pull off combos or special moves. Just running into battle and spamming melee.
