Mark Rein of Epic Games has shared that, while he would have loved if Nintendo had released the Wii U last year, he would be “shocked” if it didn’t do well, and that in regards to the system, he believes E3 will “be a big eye-opener for people”, and that is something we’ve also heard from Yoshinori Ono of Capcom.
Rein also mentioned he has played Batman: Arkham City on the Wii U and, apparently, the developers “are doing some really cool stuff with the controller”. He also offered praise for the Zelda HD tech demo:
Do you remember the Zelda demo they had on it? Would you not buy a Wii U just to play that? Of course you would. That’s what Nintendo is all about. Their hardware is the software delivery service for their great content. That Zelda demo was gorgeous and we can do even more than that with Unreal Engine 3. I think it will do great.
All we can do now is hope this translates into support for the platform from Epic Games themselves, while also hopefully adding weight to the rumours that Unreal Engine 4 is running on the dev kits.
