Last month, rumors suggested that Wii U will support more than one controller but it looks like it’ll be supporting only one for the time being. The manager of Ubisoft France, Xavier Poix, has revealed to VentureBeat/GamesBeat that Wii U supports only one Wii U GamePad. Nintendo did not talk about this topic during their pre-e3 Nintendo Direct but they did reveal a new controller, the Wii U Pro controller.

GamesBeat: How many players can you get on the Wii U at once? Is it four or is it two…?
Poix: On the controller it’s just the one. One person. But you can still play with the four Wiimotes if you have four. So it adds up to five players.

Didn't really affect me anyway, it's not like I have mass gatherings at my place.

Trophy Cards are classy too! LOLZIGZAGOON

we only need 1 controller with screen and here is a question for those who want 2 and 4 of them... how... just how they think it will work... crazy... And do never forget that u can play double games in the U pad.. like chess, etc..

The U pad is a connection of U (the owner of wii U) and the game, not the entire neighborhood with 1 console and bazillion of U pads.. It drains lots of power from wii U, its crazy to think of 4... for me is extreme for 2 as well..

I was skeptical about how this would work with just Wiimotes, but with the Pro controller it should be fine. If it means more power is freed up for the game and system to use, then that's fine by me. ^_^
