pro controller is for the "hardcore" part on the fanbase

"MLG Pros" will be using the Pro Controller because it is a traditional controller. All the "Pro" gamers play 360 or PS3, not Wii. And the reason is because one, the controller is totally different, and 2, games aren't as strong.
So it makes sense to call it a pro controller.
Just my thought. xD

It's a marketing gimmick to appeal to the hardcore gamers who label themselves as "hardcore gamers".

the minority of people called wii a "gimmick" when it was probably the best system this gen no doubt.
but now that an unneccesary pro controller comes along as a marketing gimmick ( im agreeing here) nobody gives a damn because it is a "normal" controller lol. the way some gamers think is ridiculous and i know where your coming from here.

There's a lot more than the "COD baboons" (one of which I am not) who would much prefer the comfortable feel of a regular controller than holding a tablet with buttons for hours. Nintendo must have had some concern about this themselves to even think about the idea not to mention actually go through and produce them.

I have very little interest in having to look in two different places to access a map or fast travel or whatever other gimmick 90% of the games are going to throw on this thing (please save this quote and we'll see if I'm right in a year). The idea of a scope is kinda cool, but then I won't be holding the gamepad in that instance.

I consider myself a standard "hardcore" gamer. I love all genres and all difficulties. I own all 3 current gen systems and can appreciate motion controls when they're fun. And I can at least speak for myself (which is all anyone who posts in these threads is doing anyway) when I say if I do buy a Wii U it'll probably be mostly because I can play the Nintendo first-party games with a Pro Controller.

I'd love to see the attach rate for the Pro Controller if it's not bundled in with the system, too. I imagine it'll be fairly high, just a guess.

Man, Nintendo fanboys hate being stereotyped by other gamers out there but evidently don't have much trouble doing the same thing to others. Why does every gamer "have" to like the idea of a tablet? Maybe there's a large group of gamers out there who do enjoy playing COD, yet are still interested in the Wii U for games like Mario, Zelda, Metroid...but they'd rather just play them old-school and not have to deal with gripping a gamepad for hours on end. It's just their preference.

your are right . not everyone has the same preferences . but the gamepad is actually called fairly comfortable by many and not much heavier than the pro controller.
i think nintendo made a good choice here though with the pro controller .
btw controller gimmicks in a years time. well of course . that happens to every system no matter what its main innovation is.
ps3(6axis), xbox 360(live paid in game dlc), wii( easy shake games with wii mote).

a hard core gamer would embrase controller evolvution not stand in its way the very controls they play on exist because of nintendos controller evolution if it didnt first happen at nintendo then it wouldnt have happened at all it would be qwerty keyboard and kemston joysticks to control games

This is more or less a backup plan to counter the argument of disrupted game play. That is, when you have to move your vision away from the HUD of the TV, to the HUD on the controller. Depending on the type of game you are playing, this could be disadvantageous, as mere seconds could mean everything.

Why use the word 'Pro'? This probably has nothing to do with hardcore gamers in the slightest, and is from their previous controller, the Classic Controller Pro.

The answer is simple, its pro because people who own consoles and play for hours and hours on competative online games will always use an xbox style controler, maybe in time the game pad will take over but for now these pro players wont wanna lose face while they learn a new control method so cleverly nintendo has offered a way that those new customers cant use the excuse "that nintendo controlers to much, i just wanna chill out and play", and im sure weve all heard that

It's called the Pro controller because it sounds cool, and it's pro because its better than the PS3 and Xbox controller.

There might be a reasoning behind it; and we just decided to put our theories together an collaborate on what a possible reasoning might be. I hadn't really thought about it until I found this. I find this to be a pretty useful and entertaining thread.
