Just wanted to see what people thought about multiple gamepads slowing down games' FPS for the Wii U. Do you see it being a huge problem? It's not that noticeable on the 3DS when some games get capped when playing in 3D mode (not all games do it), but you can tell the difference. Being that not every game gets slowdown on the 3DS with 3D mode on, it would be safe to assume that it's not just the fact that the 3D is on that the FPS gets capped, but it has more to do with what's actually being drawn on-screen.

If the Wii U's the same, then wouldn't it stand to reason that you would have to be running a fairly graphically intensive game for 2 gamepads to slow down the FPS (and not just using the console)? It seems to me that there are a couple of ways to work around this without actually solving it, like turning off the TV display and just showing the screens, or turning off the gamepad screens and just showing the TV screen. It sounds weird to me that if you've got a map on the gamepad screen, the game will run at 30 FPS, and if you don't, it will run at 60.

This is what I've been thinking too. I can't imagine a game that just displays some kind of 2D HUD or static image on the gamepad screen as slowing down FPS.

Yeah I can definitely see it still running at full speed if it's only displaying maps.

I unfortunately have no one to play games with IRL so I will most likely be unaffected, it only happens in very rare cases. I don't really care about the slow down. I'm more happy Nintendo is allowing us to play symmetrical multiplayer IRL. It's sad to me that some games have online-only multiplayer. Although I have a higher chance of online happening myself, playing with someone irl is much more fun.

I hope that there will be a graphics bump if you use the wii u controller pro. Since you don't use a screen then.

Remember that Skyward Sword was unresponsive at last year's E3, but when it launched, it blew everything away. My point is, there's nothing Nintendo can't fix.

I do believe that it is a bandwidth issue I which the system transmits a game pad signal of 60fps whe one is use but is halved when there's two. While still remaining solid 60fps on the tv

This.

A developer from Namco said last year that playing the gaming soley on the controller was no problem, he was skeptical at first but then find out that the connection from gamepad to controller was able able to carry 60 fps a second.

So adding a second gamepad would deffinetely half that bandwith and that both controllers will only receive 30 fps each. This does not affect the performance on the TV as the resources for the gamepad are being utilised and not the resources for the main game. Considering the Crytek dev said that they couldn't turn the controller off and that the the game could run at 720, thought with out the controller it would more than capable of running at 1080p. Those devs probably did not receive the new dev kits that allowed the pro controller.

So only gamepad screen will be affected becuase the wireless signal can only carry 60fps.

Well you need to think of it like this its just adding 1 more screen to render to 480p so when you have 2 game pads your rendering 1 720p (maybe 1080p but I don't think so) plus 2 more 480p screens even if they are 2d images being displayed it doesn't matter because of the resolution still draining power. This is not including if it is 3d if its displaying a entirely different scene than the main tv and so forth which will add more strain.

I feel (almost) no Developer is going to be using multiple gamepads because of this if they do I don't expect the TV screen will be 720p it will probably be lowered down to 480 or some other strange resolution between 480 to 720.
