I was lurking the interwebs and found this nice article on why the Wii U will get support from other developers.

The Wii U should not suffer because,

  • It uses a modern architecture. Even if it doesn’t turn out to be as powerful for the PS4/720, it should still be capable of getting ports with some effects toned down. Devs have already came out and saidthat the Wii U features a great processor.
  • It uses discs with a capacity of 25GB single-layered. That should be more than enough space for games released next-gen.
  • It has a standard controller. One of the complaints regarding the Wii was the unique control-scheme. The Wii U is different in that while the controller is still unique with a touchscreen, it hosts all the standard buttons featured on other controllers. Even if that isn’t enough, Nintendo is offering a Wii U Pro Controller for those who would prefer to use that.

They also compared older Nintendo consoles. What do you think? Me, I'm going to remain hopeful.

I think for the first year, or maybe 2, yes it will get support. If it becomes a console that has high attach rates for games like assassins creed 3, then maybe some bigger games will come with toned down effects, but if the nextbox and ps4 are a lot more powerful, and games like assassins creed 3 sell poorly, then we will be in another wii situation.

But if we look to the past, you see that ps2 was the least powerful of it's generation, but because it had the biggest market, and highest attach rates, it got everything. Games were made for it first. then ported to gamecube and xbox. If the Wii U manages to gain a huge following before the other two consoles release, then we will have a ps2 like situation. Not the most powerful, but a gamer's console of choice nevertheless.

stop bringing tech into it 3rd party support has nothing to do with it in any way shape or form ps2 was idiot" architecture." did that stop the whole industry building engines for it NO ....

its anti nintendoism that is to blame and sadly its not going away but those guilty of it are going away there all loosing money and dieing a slow death the industry see's nintendo as competition not format its not going to change, how many times do they say only nintendo games sell on the nintendo systems ,what that actually means is we cannot compete with nintendo ,they need to accept this fact get over it move on and make games that sell and profit thats there problem not nintendos...

im actually piiissed with nintendo they could have nuked the industry this gen took it out completly but they backed of there disruption plan was working it could have been biblical nes destroyed the usa computer industry in the 80s wii could have seriously took out EA and just about everyone ,dont get me wrong sony was destroyed and a lot of 3rd partys but its like nintendo sucked them dry but didnt kill the victim kept it alive i would have destroyed them all and re stasrted gaming from scratch

3rd partys are not going to back wii remote plus and gamepad it will be as usual with these men in suit birdmen who dont have a single clue about gaming

whilst sony and ms had a hardrive size war nintendo saved gaming lol at harddrive size war you couldnt make up how dumb this industry is

Makes sense to me. I hope that we get awesome 3RD party games, but I will only truly believe it when I see it.

I hope you feel good calling me an idiot from behind your sad little computer screen. I believe that tech does play a factor, and that is not the only point I brought up, I highlighted other things such as install base, and attach rates. Please climb out of your cold fanboy hole, and see that there is a whole other side to this penny.

For Nintendo to even stay in competition will require 3rd party help. Im sure they learned there lesson from past systems and will be ready to throw money around to get some quality 3rd parties on board. A nintendo console with the exclusives plus every multiplatform game would potentially be the perfect system.

agreed but if u think about it look what happened with the vita. i dont think sony or micro want to have that situation where it is expensive and only a little more powerful .

yah if they release expensive systems tho they will be in deep sheet. lol

If Nintendo gets 3rd party support and i mean continued support....they will dominate. Why? Because 1st party is every bit important. If every system had the same games then it just becomes a brand war. And I'm Sorry, but Microsoft and Sony just don't have anywhere close to the 1st party support Nintendo does. Back in the day when it was Sega vs Nintendo, both systems had a healthy mix of 1St as well as 3rd. This is what sold the systems. Now a days It's 80% 3rd party on Microsoft and Sony machines. NINTENDO's 1st party IP'S are killer AND plentiful.

right the fastest selling console and most innovitive console ever the wii wasnt backed by the industry but ps2 a hard to code stupid machine and ps3 also was backed by the industry why would the """games in dustry ignore the wii"" does it even seem logical to you that such a console with such a user base would be ignored

the industry stinks why back ps2 then not back wii why spend millions on middleware for dumb hardware ps2 then ignore the wii a much easier console to code and port to and far more profits to be made theses a resaon for this and it stinks to high heaven do not trust the industry

I didn't even have a friggin PS2 console you dolt! I had a GameCube, which is my favorite console of all time. But even if I did have one would that matter? People are privy to their own opinions. All I said was that PS2 outsold the other two for various reasons. Its people like you that give normal Nintendo fans a bad name.

I think what thehappening means is that he wasn't calling you an idiot. he was referring to the architecture of the PS2.
